GCSE results day 2021 support thread

10 days to go until results day. Thought I'd start a new thread for parents who are getting the heebie jeebies and are probably more stressed than their DCs. I personally am trying not to mention it AT ALL, so it would be really good to have a thread where I can worry along with everyone else!

Been up since 6.a.m. tidying kitchen and trying not to pace up and down.

Her Majesty is off and en route to school at 9.30 for 10 a.m. pickup.

Will wait for phone call as she's got to stay on to hand some things out for the leavers.

beigebrownblue · 12/08/2021 09:17

@claireymrsd

We're self isolating as hubby tested positive on Sunday so daughter can't collect in person. We're waiting for an email or her friend to deliver the envelope- whichever comes first !
Oh gosh, that's tricky Clairey hope you okay.

DD has just set off on her own on foot.

This in itself is an achievement as she hasn't set foot on the school site for over a year, and hasn't walked on her own that distance in over a year either.

Yes, and well done parents and carers.

I always thought G.C.S.E year was going to be stressful but who would have reckoned wiith a global pandemic on top eh? Marvellous achievemnt to get through all that regardless of grades. (anticipatory pats on back)

Barwell76 · 12/08/2021 09:19

We are going to collect them at 10.30. Wasnt nervous before but getting a bit anxious now.

AChickenCalledDaal · 12/08/2021 09:19

DD on her way to school and just announced she's bringing a friend home with her so they can celebrate/commiserate together. This was not among the scenarios that have been running through my head!!

Did really well especially in maths which he's wants to take for A level so will sail on to that. But was a grade down for biology entry to A level 🙁 not sure if given how high his other levels are whether they will discretionary let him in, or whether he needs to apply for a different a level.

if he definitely wants to take biology there is a really good 6 form college nearby that will take his grade for biology. but I know he wants to stay a school. So who knows.

on a whole though he really pleased with his grades!

Can I ask those that have their results are they more or less in line with expectations?

No. most are in the region of mocks/predicted but one subject (the one he's complained about the teacher to us for the last 2 years) was 2 grades below mock/predicted.

Maths he went up 2 grades!

ComplexNeeds · 12/08/2021 09:33

@TeenMinusTests I have my fingers crossed for all our kids but my toes are crossed too for your DD. Hope she gets what she needs! xx

Watapalava · 12/08/2021 09:33

Surely you can appeal a grade that was 2 below your mock? surely that's not allowed?

KittyMcKitty · 12/08/2021 09:33

Huge congratulations to all dc after such a challenging couple of years.

Big sigh of relief here (had a level results on Tuesday also) 3 x 9, 6 x 8 and a 7 in French (very pleasant surprise with the French!) so all ok to stay at school for 6th form.

Dunlin · 12/08/2021 09:38

Waiting anxiously for a call here. We’re on holiday and dh drive back with dd2 last night to pick up her results from school this morning.

@drivinmecrazy I could have written your post. Dd1 got straight 9s last year and we know dd2 will get nothing like that but she’s worked hard and I want her to feel proud of her results whatever she gets.

Argh the waiting is killing me!

Titsywoo · 12/08/2021 09:39

DD did so well! 6 x grade 7, 1 x grade 8 and 2 x grade 9. So relieved but knew she was going to do well as she worked really hard and her mocks were very good. Couple of surprises with a grade 9 for french and 2 x 7 for science. 9 for art which is the most important one to her. Well done to all!

Eaumyword · 12/08/2021 09:40

Relieved here-almost all 5's, a 4 and a 6.
Please may I ask? DS did double Science. His award sheet has 54 next to it. Does this mean he got a 5 and a 4 and this counts as 2 GCSE's or is it 54 as in a number graded score? I'm assuming the former, but just wanted to clarify if anyone can kindly do so please?

JulesJules · 12/08/2021 09:43

Just about to set off with D2 to get her results. Like many others on here, her elder sister did brilliantly - all 9s at GCSE, A* at A level and is now at Oxford, so this is adding a lot of pressure - and D2 has had a very rocky time. We have been waiting over 2 years for a referral re: ADHD, she found lockdowns extremely hard to deal with and could not function without the discipline and structure of school. I'm stressing how very proud we are of her.

It is 2 GCSEs at 5 and 4.

Yes that's a 5 and a 4 grade, not fifty four.

Congratulations to your DS!

NewYearNewTwatName · 12/08/2021 09:48

Watapalava TBH though on the flip side, he got 2 grades above in maths, although it wasn't a surprise, because he's been in the top 3 of the class for years, and has always achieved well in previous end of year exams, I think they keep predictions low in maths to keep them on their toes.(bitter experience from when they did the same to DS1 year, which totally Knocked all confidence out him of instead Angry )

the subject he dropped 2 grades is actually a subject that really doesn't matter to him anyway. so not worth the hassle.

MarshaBradyo · 12/08/2021 09:51

Big relief and happiness here

9s for maths, physics and CS

Which he needed for FM A level and to go onto preferred degree

Incredible considering last year or so

groovejet · 12/08/2021 09:54

My DD has just gone to get hers, nervously awaiting her return, she has worked so hard the past 2 years so really hope her effort has paid off.

gulliblestravels · 12/08/2021 09:57

Eleven grade 9s here (girl) but at a cost, imo, to her MH. We shall see.

Me too, DD was going to walk the ten minutes to school which would have been good to calm her down, but instead parent of friend turned up and insisted on lift. A bit irritating.

I do wish people wouldn't hype it up so much, I'm spending most of my efforts on creating calm atmosphere at home.

Well done both of you, yes, I get that, we were home schooling for ten months, i heard the news this morning and they said kids had eleven weeks out of school!

Ours were off in total for ten months.

Be kind to yourselves.
