Your Year 11 child - when do they finish school?

Year 11 DD feels hard done by as her state school is keeping them in full time until Friday 11th June, whereas her cousin (also a state school and in the same local authority) breaks up for the summer tomorrow, 14th May. The disparity is crazy! Are these the two extremes of the spectrum?

@MyDcAreMarvel - thanks for explaining that.

11th June for DS, then two weeks optional 6th Form programme. I say optional but I think it's pretty much expected for the pupils staying on!

Foosterin · 17/05/2021 18:47

I wish we had some - any - information from school about whether DD's year group will be called in after half term or let go. She's debating whether she should be looking for work or work experience through June or waiting to see what's happening with school. Although finding work experience in the current climate appears to be a whole other challenge.

no idea ,school have said definitely by the end of june, but wont give us a date ,they break up next thurs for a week all exams will be done ,wouldnt surprise me if the school tell them on the thurs that thats them done

Schools should not send exam-year pupils home early, says Ofsted head:
www.theguardian.com/education/2021/jun/03/schools-should-not-send-exam-year-pupils-home-early-says-ofsted-head

Shows how little the head of Ofsted knows about what's happening in schools! Why was this conversation not had several months ago?

Finished on 25th May but they have to go back for six form induction for two weeks.

I think the timing is deliberate. Ofsted seen to be making the right noises about welfare, fully aware that it is too late for anyone to act on.

Dd leaves on the 18th June then has 8 days of 6th form taster days at a different school.

TeenMinusTests · 04/06/2021 19:25

What exactly do they think schools are going to do with a bunch of y11s (especially in schools with no 6th forms)?

If they wanted to not send them home early they should have kept the exams, thus saving all the assessments over the past 6 weeks for both the kids and the schools.

WhatHaveIFound · 07/06/2021 11:19

DS's last week in Y11 with six assesments still to go. Just had an email from the school to say that they have to leave school after their last one so it looks like there'll be so send off for them at all.

It's going to be a long summer...

assessments finished 28th May but in till 18th June for form signing and 6th form bridging work Finish with farewell bbq on 18th

Iloveitall · 07/06/2021 11:33

My year 11 has finished. The year 11’s at the school I teach at have finished too. All off til September.

Dancingdreamer · 08/06/2021 21:54

I’m glad mine is still in school until July doing 6th form preparation lessons. Not only is he with his friends (instead of everyone being away or at their homes in Cornwall etc) after so long locked up because of Covid but he is doing sport at school and has already decided that one of his A level choices doesn’t suit him.

Where do you find work experience? I asked in the local shops, but no vacancies :-(

Have you tried the local charity shops?
