Your Year 11 child - when do they finish school?

LauraLovesLemons · 13/05/2021 22:40

Year 11 DD feels hard done by as her state school is keeping them in full time until Friday 11th June, whereas her cousin (also a state school and in the same local authority) breaks up for the summer tomorrow, 14th May. The disparity is crazy! Are these the two extremes of the spectrum?

28th May

Lampzade · 15/05/2021 13:45

@Hoppinggreen

Mid June. It’s a Private school and as they are charging us until the end of term I suppose they have to justify it somehow
Dfriend’s ds is at a private school and they finish on the 28th May. She pays 6k a term. So she had worked out that she has paid £1k a week for the Summer term
tinytemper66 · 15/05/2021 13:46

17th June for my school. Babysitting then for the next few weeks as they have done their assessment for my subject.

Twinkie01 · 15/05/2021 13:53

This coming Friday. He's not at a state school though. They can go on for another month but won't be doing much, although we have to pay for the whole term.

charliechew · 15/05/2021 13:55

28th May, finished assessments a week ago, DD can’t wait; I think she’s had enough.

ZeusandClio · 15/05/2021 13:59

28th May here too.

1805 · 15/05/2021 14:04

11th June. Then in for a leavers do on the 18th.
Private school, Oxford.
I don't mind the fee's issues, as I get that the fees are spread evenly over the 5 years/ 15 terms.
DD thinks it's SO UNFAIR she has two keep doings tests until then Grin

worriedatthemoment · 15/05/2021 14:36

27th may for mjne , exams next week then 4 days in and all over

PotteringAlong · 15/05/2021 14:39

Secondary school teacher - we’re keeping year 11 for the first 3 weeks after may half term so also 28th June here.

Valenciaoranges · 15/05/2021 21:28

Private school - full programme available until the end of summer term....

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/05/2021 21:32

2 more weeks for dd, finishing on the 28th. All assessments done so they will be kept busy with sex ed, financial ed, preparing for the world of work and other such stuff. An email saying that missing it would be going down as unauthorised absence.

Foosterin · 15/05/2021 22:00

Wish we knew! Last exams on Wednesday 26th May and we have no idea what's happening after that - when the kids are finishing or if there will be any events after half term. School are still refusing to comment and teachers are telling the kids that they don't know what's happening. It's making it very difficult to plan anything and actually stressing me out more than DD.

lakeswimmer · 15/05/2021 22:04

28th May here. She has exams/tests up until 26th. They've got a prom on 24th June but otherwise that's it. No sixth form so they're all leaving.

MayaFey · 15/05/2021 22:08

28th May and tests right up until the end. By then they'll have done 46 assessments in 6 weeks!

NotDonna · 16/05/2021 17:05

Exams finish on May 21st but are in school until the usual end of year in July. No idea what they’ll be doing though. It’s usually DofE, activities, residential etc but who knows this year.

OverWintered · 16/05/2021 17:22

Our y11s got kicked out on Monday lunchtime 10th May. Exams all done in the 2 weeks after Easter. Absolutely gutted. So much for the big catch-up. State school Bristol Area.

Travelban · 16/05/2021 21:07

28th of May here with assessments until the last day. No leaving parties but there is talk of a prom at the end of June.

PettsWoodParadise · 16/05/2021 22:18

‘Exams that aren’t exams but might as well be exams’ finished last week. DD goes in for next two weeks for reviews and ad-hoc assessments. Then three weeks off and back for one week of bridging work at end of June. Random.

DD had been looking at a summer job but the random week at end of June seems to stop the main jobs being an option. A coffee shop nearby is closed due to lack of staff and DD talked to the owner but they want someone who knows how to use the machine, DD said she could learn quickly. How is staying closed sensible when you have a bright, capable young person willing to help out and then stay helping out at weekends even after the holidays? We need willingness to train and pass on skills, not an expectation someone knows 100 % of a role.

Finished assessments this week. Now starting A level preparation classes until end of term.. So following A level timetable for subjects they have chosen but all extension work rather then the actual syllabus. My DC seems happy as gives them the chance to trial their A levels before starting them properly in September.

worriedatthemoment · 17/05/2021 08:29

@PettsWoodParadise my ds 17 having same thing , going for basic shop work £4 odd hr, but being told he has no experience so not getting job, like he says, well how will I get the experience , if no one gives me a go?

carrie74 · 17/05/2021 14:16

Final week of assessments finish at DD's school Friday 11th June, then we've been asked to be 'available' during final grading the following week. Officially done on 18 June, but got a couple of activities' days on 21/22 June.

Inastatus · 17/05/2021 14:24

At our school year 11’s finish face to face teaching on 28th May but will then have some remote learning and prep work for post 16 studies for the month of June. The Head wrote to say it was a government decision to maintain the normal leaving date of end of June for years 11 and 13?

CovidSmart · 17/05/2021 14:26

11th June here too.
They have their last assessment just aftre the May half term and then they are done.

ForThePurposeOfTheTape · 17/05/2021 15:22

Y11 and y13 leave at the end of this week. Y11 who are going to Sixth Form are returning for induction days.

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/05/2021 16:27

@Inastatus The Head wrote to say it was a government decision to maintain the normal leaving date of end of June for years 11 and 13?
Yes CSA is still last Friday in June , so all year 11’s will legally be on school roll. The government can’t stop schools having children not physically be in the building through.
