Absolutely yes to having a proud mum moment Sandy, we’ll done her Smile

We joined the theory pass club today. After 3 aborted dates it was a welcome relief.

orangecinnamon · 23/04/2021 11:46

@sandybayley

Can I have a 'proud' moment? DD has been made 'President' of the school biology magazine. In my day I think that would have been known as Editor but maybe things have changed and she's got presidential powers....
Congrats.. am getting Gilmore vibes !

Big day for theory tests! Well done @sandybayley DD.

Finally got GCSE certificates this week as well. I think DS was expecting something more ornate!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 23/04/2021 12:09

Congrats to Sandybayley's, Ealingwestmum's and Estherfrewen's DCs! What a good day!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 23/04/2021 12:12

DS has got his EPQ presentation next week, please all keep your fingers crossed for him - I think he might need a good result in this if his Biology grade next month doesn't make significant improvement! Can anyone remind me how it works in regard to uni applications / offers?

KingscoteStaff · 23/04/2021 12:35

Well done to all theory whizzes and Presidents!

icanbewhatiwant · 23/04/2021 12:38

Well done to theory passes and the president.

ealingwestmum · 23/04/2021 13:09

Best of luck with his presentation Justhere. All schools use these ‘summer’ exams differently, but most will use the grades as indicative/predicted grades for UCAS submission from Autumn. But they’re not set in stone (our school’s June grades are pretty much, unless there are exceptional circumstances to revise in Sept), and a high grade in EPQ can result in a reduced uni offer if A levels and EPQ grades are met.

ealingwestmum · 23/04/2021 13:10

Schools and colleges...apologies. I forget.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 23/04/2021 14:15

Thanks @ealingwestmum we have been told that the June results will be their UCAS predicted grades which is why I'm getting nervous - eek!

20newnames · 23/04/2021 14:21

@estherfrewen - well done to your DS! I am glad his hard work paid off in the end Smile

Anyone seen the article below, apparently they don't know what form 2022 exams will take yet, but it's unlikely to be normal...

inews.co.uk/news/education/gcses-a-level-exams-return-normal-form-2022-unlikely-ofqual-968446?fbclid=IwAR1kmYIcxNbmYKigiLxd3LiyymSXTQ7IfuuffD4uPYf0vfEgAEh6zlo7hLA

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 23/04/2021 14:46

I don’t know what to think about that @20newnames, part of me just wants them to have a set of exams that people will take seriously and another part thinks may be that’s the right thing not to sit them. Saying that, I don’t trust DS school not to short change him like they did for GCSEs. 😡

FoolsAssassin · 23/04/2021 14:50

Lovely to hear good news, well done to Sandybayley's, Ealingwestmum's and Estherfrewen's DCs!

Not surprised to read the Guardian article.

Another week gone already, going so quickly.

orangecinnamon · 23/04/2021 14:58

Well done theory test passers!

I hate to put a downer on things but just saw this article about next year's exams. Is the phrase for our Covid Cohort just a refraining "we don't know what will happen"?

Oh god sorry @20newnames...why didn't I see that Hmm doh

That article has thoroughly depressed me. If there was any confidence that a reform, well thought through in detail and in time to be delivered for 2022 cohort was on the table..,but we see how 2021 Y13s have been totally shafted. FFS these guys need to sit some form of formal qualifications that unis and future employers will take seriously, and a year out the focus should be on filling the gaps in earnest to get them all exam ready.

orangecinnamon · 23/04/2021 15:23

I think the 'lack of Public exams' experience can be allayed somewhat by some rigorous mocks. But that would put a lot of pressure on teaching staff/schools who are trying to deal with the fallout for y13 at the moment. I really don't know what the answer is. I suppose we should be thankful that more subjects have coursework (I know not all).

EwwSprouts · 23/04/2021 15:28

Loving president of the biology magazine, that's fab. All the passes are good news and nice to have a normal milestone reached.

I think the 'lack of public exams' shouldn't be such a huge barrier if they allow an element of generosity, be it marking or limited range of topics. There is a year to go and no sector or geographical area sat GCSEs so everyone is in the same boat.

MrKlaw · 23/04/2021 16:46

Hi all - jumped across from one of the uni threads as now it’s DDs turn. And with Covid I’ve lost all sense of timing. When and how are we supposed to be doing the university open day grand tours? Is it normally summer hols - June through August or so?

DD is behind where DS was at this point, not even sure the course she wants let alone which university, and I think being swayed too much by where her friends might go

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2021 16:48

Phew. DS missed having to SI by one seat today. It's his birthday this Thursday.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2021 17:30

from other thread.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2021 17:45

My phone makes my last post look weird so I shall wave at MrKlaw again without fancy brackets.

orangecinnamon · 23/04/2021 17:57

Hi @MrKlaw! Universities generally have Open days from June to October , then some in New year. Some stuff online though already.

Worth exploring any general areas of interest? Unless Oxbridge or Conservatoire, apps don't need to be in until 2022. The school will probably lead over next term.
