Welcome MrKlaw

We’ve actually had a conversation with DS about university and he has a better idea of what he is looking for now, the good bit about a long drive is you have a captive audience. Think we’ll see if can do a bit of a road trip if possible this summer.

orangecinnamon · 23/04/2021 18:08

"Embarrassed of South Coast" here. Forgot Dd had moved her singing lesson to tonight, luckily when teacher arrived the kitchen was in a half decent state. She started setting up on kitchen table when I noticed I left a bottle red plonked in middle Wine ...cue me muttering apologies and faffing a bit. Now hiding in summerhouse.

No need to be embarrassed Orange it was Friday night after all. Perfectly normal in my book. I had a G & T Thursday night as fancied one as knew I had to be the driver taking DD to a bday last night.

Congratulations to all the DC who have passed theory tests, got GCSE certs (we supposedly get DDs next week), missed out on SI and got Biology President 👏👏👏👏

Not sure what to make of that article re exams for our cohort and we won't not for sure until after this years' results have come through but DD is v concerned as she won't have sat proper exams. I reminded her that she had sat mocks with proper exam conditions last year and has sat them this last week too so definitely knows how serious they take them. She has more in June which I guess go on their UCAS forms.

Well done to President and theory passers.
I too find that article quite depressing. I'm sure they could do more to fix and have mocks and exams.

Piggywaspushed · 25/04/2021 15:05

Been two cases at DS's sixth form now. Not sure if confirmed by PCR. Due to see GPs for first time in 9 months next Sunday so hope he stays clear of it all!

20newnames · 25/04/2021 22:51

Thank you @Piggywaspushed will encourage DS to attend the relevant one.

Re booking driving tests, I found that there was nothing near us showing at all, but loads of availability at Bodmin in Cornwall in July - bit random! My godmother lives there, so thinking about sending DS1 down to stay and have a few lessons and a test. I think that maybe because you can cancel so easily the driving schools might do lots of block booking which makes it more difficult for other people to book.

AnneOfCleavage · 26/04/2021 17:26

Wow Monkey that is random and rather a drastic move if you do book a test there GrinFunny story to tell for years to come though 😂

GCSE certificates have arrived and also the class of 2022 year books so that was a fun half hour leafing through that with DD.

Still no mention of certificates here. I think its going to be a bit of let down when they finally do arrive.

20newnames · 27/04/2021 10:01

I contacted DS's old school's exams officer this morning to ask about how I could collect certificates. She said no visitors allowed so she would post them. Why on earth they haven't just posted them out already is beyond me.

Monkey2001 · 27/04/2021 11:08

DH grew up in London but family had holiday house in Llandrindod Wells, mid Wales. He did his test there - one roundabout, no lights. Only hazard he has to navigate was a herd of cows!

ealingwestmum · 27/04/2021 11:55

😂😂 so far removed from Southall (will be DD’s test centre) Monkey, I love the strategy!

Monkey2001 · 27/04/2021 14:34

Ha, BBC said Llandrindod Wells had the 7th highest pass rate in the UK for 2018! Southall not bad at 41.9%, but looks like Scottish islands are best!

ealingwestmum · 27/04/2021 15:35

Thanks for the article, I feel quite hardcore having passed in Birmingham in 1987 1st time Grin
Well, Sheldon, a suburb of B’ham, but more impressive was that it was in my mum’s Austin Allegro. No more needs to be said. And doesn’t take a lot to work out the car’s nickname!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/04/2021 16:01

@ealingwestmum I did mine on Greenford Hill - at 3.30pm so all the school kids were everywhere while I was trying to do hill starts!! Everyone wanted to get Isleworth back then because there wee no roundabouts on the test route at the time but no such luck.

ealingwestmum · 27/04/2021 16:06

Oh you have my sympathies Justhere, but good to see another local, did you grow up around there (here)? I love it btw...

Fiddlersgreen · 27/04/2021 16:20

I did mine at isleworth. Had to navigate two big roundabouts on the A316 I remember

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/04/2021 16:53

@ealingwestmum I'm a south Ealing girl but live in one of the 'leafy' counties just a hop, skip and jump out of London for the past 20 years.

@Fiddlersgreen when did you take your test? Mine was in 1989 .

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/04/2021 16:56

@fiddlersgreen Saying that, I'm pretty sure the A316 had roundabouts back then! Hmm, must have been one of those urban myths then so I didn't lose out by not getting Isleworth.

I was 5 when you took yours!
(Yes I had DS young, I was 20)

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/04/2021 16:57

Oh thanks Fiddlers, now I feel ancient! Grin

ealingwestmum · 27/04/2021 17:03

Grin another local, baby one at that Fiddlers Grin

Small, small world indeed.

Seeline · 27/04/2021 17:05

I took mine in the snow. Was convinced it would be cancelled, so wasn't really in the right frame of mind. Then when my instructor took me to the test centre, we discovered the car had a puncture. The examiner said if we got the wheel changed in under 10 minutes, I'd still be able to take the test. Managed to do it though, if a bit cold and wet! That was 1987!!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/04/2021 17:08

@ealingwestmum have you always been in Ealing? I used to love living there but moved out this way with work and the temptation of a bigger property - with a driveway!!

@seeline Snow??? I can't drive in snow now so I'd have definitely failed that one, well done!
