Hi all, my son has applied for the Film and Media strand for Yr 10 this year. Just wondering if anyone else’s kids have done the same? We had an email acknowledgment, but heard nothing since regarding an interview or assessment.

My daughter has applied for the Musical theatre strand and we received an interview offer

Rapunzel88 · 03/02/2021 18:50

That’s great news Sterou. Do you mind me asking when you heard from them about the interview?

@Rapunzel88 today!

peach1234 · 03/02/2021 20:31

I went there, absolutely amazing school and the best 4 years of my life! I'm jealous Smile

Rapunzel88 · 03/02/2021 20:37

Thanks for coming back to me @Sterou. Hopefully we’ll hear from them soon. Best of luck to your daughter x

@peach1234, could you give us any tips or guidance about the interview ?
Any idea how many students are interviewed considering they only take 25 student per strand? My DD is so very excited, that’s all she has ever wanted to do (sing and dance) !!

peach1234 · 03/02/2021 21:29

@Sterou I left 14 years ago so it's been a long time! I was in the theatre strand so a little different to media and musical theatre but I'd just say they like individuals so just tell them to be confident, themselves, try to stand out (wear something eye catching) and be enthusiastic! Lots of luck!

peach1234 · 03/02/2021 21:33

Sorry not sure on how many they audition, 25 is definitely a lot less than in my day but that might differ per strand, there were 2 classes in the theatre strand so closer to 50 but that may have changed now. There wasn't a musical theatre strand when I was there so might be that it's a smaller dept.

Hi, My daughter is desperate to go to the BRIT school at 16 . Welive in Leicester though. Has anyone had experience of their child getting in from outside London? Are there any accommodation groups to find accommodation shares available? (if she was lucky enough to get it?!!)

Hi Linz44. My daughter was an out of area student. They hold a list of local families who are willing to rent a room to students. This is what we did, we were very lucky in getting a room right next to the school.

As others have said it's a great school, you get so many unique experiences, my daughter loved her time there - sadly it was cut short last year due to covid.

Good luck to your daughter.

A quick update on my son- he had a zoom interview for the Film and media strand last week and he definitely gave it a good shot. We’ve been told we’ll hear within four weeks so fingers crossed 🤞. Best of luck to anyone else who applied

Hi

My daughter wants to apply to go to the Brit School next year, ie to begin in September 2022. She’s currently at school in Cheltenham, but I rent, and work from home, so if she were to be offered an “out of area” place, I’d be more than happy to move to somewhere in south London with her, so that she could attend.

My question is this - when would I need to provide proof of address? ie proof of an address that she could stay at in London? If it’s before she finds out the results of her application, then that would be a big problem, as I don’t want to spend time and money moving without knowing whether or not she would be offered a place!

If it’s not until she was offered a place, that would be a much better situation for me.

Does anyone know how it works?
Dan

Sterou · 19/03/2021 21:17

Evening Dan, if I recall the address is on the application form which is the first step of the process. It’s also a question discussed at the interview (3rd stage) to ensure they don’t travel much more than 1 hour each way.
The admission team is very responsive and helpful, you should contact them to discuss, to maximise your daughter’s chance. It’s hard to get in with only 25 student per module (year10)
Hope that helps

LIZS · 19/03/2021 21:22

I believe majority of places are allocated within a catchment area with relatively few outside, so you would need the address at time of application to have the greater chance of success and even then it is very competitive. You therefore do need a backup plan.

Lostinjuarez · 26/03/2021 17:18

Thanks for your input, everyone! Much appreciated.

Rapunzel88 · 07/04/2021 07:15

@Sterou just wondering if you’d heard anything from the Brit school? We still haven’t and it’s been five weeks since the interview. So frustrating!

Sterou · 07/04/2021 15:48

Nothing yet on our side either! I am told it’s next week?!? DS is going a little stir crazy tbh

Rapunzel88 · 07/04/2021 16:35

Same with my DS and me too if l’m honest! Thanks so much for replying @Sterou. l keep thinking l’ve missed a communication. Do you think they’ll let us know by email or post?

lilywonka · 07/04/2021 17:24

Hi @Sterou and @Rapunzel88 I totally agree with you. This wait is getting unbearable as they keep delaying. My DD applied for Year 10 Music and last week she was told either this week or next week we’ll receive the emails. Fingers crossed for us all!

Sterou · 07/04/2021 17:48

I will post either outcome back on here and mine is a DD not DS as earlier suggestion :-) whom applied for musical theatre.

Rapunzel88 · 08/04/2021 08:37

Yes, let’s keep in contact. Maybe today’s the day? Trying not to obsessively check my email every 10 mins!
