Nothing official from dd's school but as her teacher's keep referring to 'back to normal timetable' from the 8th, I'm guessing they'll all be back then Confused.

Seeline · 24/02/2021 11:32

We haven't heard anything from school about going back yet.

I assume as a private school they still have to do all the testing? DD not at all keen about the frequency, and as an over-16 it's down to her to give consent.....

icanbewhatiwant · 24/02/2021 11:44

Not heard anything from school yet either. I have heard the school over the border is staggering return throughout the week. I wonder why they don't start tests the week before as they can't do everyone on the Monday. So now the teachers will be trying to teach online plus class lessons with the years that are back.

Heifer · 24/02/2021 12:52

We had a letter from DD school yesterday saying there will be a staggered regime of testing days for all of the Senior School for the first week.Students will be given allocated days and times to attend school during that week. Guided home learning will still be in place on days when your daughters are not physically in school and to look out for email informing then DDs will be in school for the 1st week.

icanbewhatiwant · 24/02/2021 13:40

I just got so angry on Facebook. A group I'm in...lots were saying their children will not be doing the covid tests when they return to school. They were saying they don't want to do them or are their dc's are scared. I can understand a child with learning disabilities not doing them. But the rest of them should have it done. To me I feel it's irresponsible to not get your dc's tested. My 2 have no choice they will be doing the tests. But if lots are going to refuse then what's the point? It should be mandatory for most dc's. I'm glad dh has had his vaccine if that is people mindset 😡

piggywaspushed · 24/02/2021 13:47

Just rushing in before a lesson to tell you lovely supportive people that DH just got his vaccine text and is going on Sunday . I have never seen him so excited. (This is a notch above grumpy to an average onlooker)

Monkey2001 · 24/02/2021 13:53

Great news @piggywaspushed. Glitterball

@icanbewhatiwant why do they refuse?! It is a bit unpleasant but so much better than having to self-isolate!

icanbewhatiwant · 24/02/2021 13:59

@Monkey2001 they were just saying their dc's don't want to have it done or are too scared and that it's their right to refuse. It's exactly this mindset that has helped get us in this mess. So many have refused to stay at home or have covid tests etc. Now we have those refusing vaccines too.

Zandathepanda · 24/02/2021 14:02

piggy delighted for your Dh and you.
icanbe yes thought that may happen. The government need to get a campaign out quick via youngsters that influence people (not Boris unless he says ‘alas I would have refused it cos I am such a ......).
The Last Leg show were making up slogans for the vaccine refusers - maybe they could get on board with this too.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 24/02/2021 14:04

@Seeline: I am sure the regs will govern private as well as state schools, as the closures did. @Piggywaspushed: great news, delighted to hear it. @Monkey2001: thanks for the petition, signed although I can't see it happening before schools are back, I'd like to see them prioritised next. The swabbing isn't 'nice' it's true, but it's a necessary evil for being back to school, imo: my two have been told that's what's happening, even if ds has to consent himself officially ;-)

Zandathepanda · 24/02/2021 14:04

‘Don’t be a dick, just snot on a stick’?

piggywaspushed · 24/02/2021 14:06

Personally I know we have lots of test refusers in my school (they simply just sent ill children in after a couple of days) : it has long been an issue so doing it in schol will play out in its own way.

Due to some odd phobias I ahve I won't do one in a schol hall but am happy to take tests away. The kids have t be supervised.

I think they are probably in a state of heightened anxiety all round . they wanted to come back and now it's masks and tests it all seems a bit adult.

I understand the kids : not their parents though.

Seeline · 24/02/2021 14:23

Silly question for those that have had repeated testing - do your noses get very sore? I have only had to be tested once and my nose was sore for a couple of days afterwards. If I had then had to be tested a few days later I can imagine it getting more than a bit uncomfortable.

Apparently announcements regarding current yr13 exams in Parliament session tomorrow by our mate Gav. I suppose it will be too much to ask them to consider y12 too? Or will they be expected just to go back to normal with possibly provision for disadvantaged through national tutoring agency Hmm

Glad cinnamon dd got subway job!

I am hoping driving lessons will start 12th because ds hasn't had any yet. (Feb birthday) But we've been teaching him and he's coming along, and he's got his theory already booked (it allowed him to book a few weeks ago, which from what I've since read it shouldn't have even allowed him to!)

We have parents evening mid March.

My 2 are fine about going back. They have been ok, until 2 weeks ago and since then they have both been vile.

Ds's report said BBC, which I wasn't very impressed with. Plus the C was Business, his favourite subject, and they said he was 'coasting'. I told him how I felt and as usual he was cocky and 'this is rubbish they don't know what they're talking about' Hmm

TheySeeHerRowling · 24/02/2021 20:03

Dd's just had 'the email' to go and get tested on Friday.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 24/02/2021 20:39

Email through from our school this afternoon: they are doing a year group a day testing, then start the next day: 6th form are first day so back in on 9th. VERY EXCITED kids in the house, although dd has had a sudden (maybe to be expected) wobble.

We've coasted horribly with driving lessons (ds is Not Keen) but ds is now on a couple of insanely long waiting list for lessons at least. Someone remind me what the app is that coaches them through the theory?! Dh is threatening to buy a book like some sort of dinosaur ;-)

20newnames · 24/02/2021 20:52

DS’s instructor recommended the official dvsa app package for £9.99 which contains a few apps in one bundle.

Zandathepanda · 25/02/2021 09:37

Dd’s teacher first lesson is the one in charge of testing. She told them she would be doing another lesson later in the day too. The class were in a waiting room (several checked with each other on their phones) so she started the ‘meeting’ but I think the poor teacher was in another one for a meeting on tests. The class waited and waited and Dd has now gone back to bed. I told her it’s Gavs fault.

Zandathepanda · 25/02/2021 09:51

p.s. Testing (as in covid) and testing (as in GCSEs and A Levels). Poor woman.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 25/02/2021 13:42

Thanks @20NewNames :-)

Monkey2001 · 25/02/2021 15:28

Just been vaccinated. I got the Pfizer, but the helper who was standing over us in the 15 mins after the vaccine when we had to be observed in case of adverse reaction said that the vaccine comparison stats are misleading and Oxford is probably actually more effective than Pfizer. Apparently the volunteers in the Oxford trial were tested regularly for asymptomatic covid and the Pfizer ones were not.

I am just happy to have any vaccine Grin, but thought it was an interesting fact.

AnneOfCleavage · 26/02/2021 11:44

Monkey I was vaccinated Wednesday evening. I volunteer as a Covid Marshall at a local hub and there was a spare one going at the end of shift so got it done. Was not expecting it so had no info like NHS number but was v happy to have it. Was O/AZ and I've reacted quite badly: shivery, high temp, nausea, sickness, crashing headache and achy. Arm v sore too but I feel better today although tired. Still better than actual Covid so I'm happy. Bit nervous for 2nd dose but will still have it. Did you get any reaction to the Pfizer one?

Had an email to give permission for DD to get tested but as she's 6th form I assumed us parents didn't have to give permission. She was part of a testing program that she signed up for and as 16 and over signed herself but that was run outside of school (but still within school).

So sorry for everyone having long waits for driving lessons, theory tests and driving tests.

After hearing the news re teachers giving grades this year I wonder how this will go for our DC next year. Will schools over inflate this year after seeing other schools get away with it last year? I don't see how they can go back to complete exam conditions next year after our cohort (and year 10) missed vital teaching this year so will they do as was suggested for this year before this last lockdown with exam scrapped and have open book exams/ less content etc?
Our DC won't be given the vaccine as under 18 so could still get Covid and miss schooling. I don't see it going away anytime soon if ever so I wonder if they are thinking of next years' exams for current year 10/12s.
