Oh, I just don't get these schools that go 'wear it if you want' like that. It opens the door to them thinking 'I don't want'...

There was none of this when it was corridors was there?

Mine are all just arriving at the room with them on so there is no conversation.

My school is often not great with rules, consistency and behaviour and yet it is going smoothly at my place so I can't understand how flawed the messaging must be in some places.

To be honest, the ones I teach weren't even aware of the government's non committal wording so I have no idea why some schools are publicising it!!

That’s what I thought regarding the non commital wording. It was everywhere that teens would be wearing masks in school and it was only on here that I found out it wasn’t going to be enforced.
They sent a letter at the beginning of the weekend regarding uniform and mentioned that the masks in class were optional. They have to wear them in corridors, there was never any question about that, now I imagine they are arriving at class and then just taking them off?! Madness.
Thank you. I am going to email in the morning.

Btw thank you to Piggy and everyone else that made suggestions for ds1's reading. I'm making a list!

University of Leicester is offering a load of taster days next week which I can only see on UCAS. DS1 was very impressed by the medicine open day at Leicester, he preferred it to Edinburgh.

In case anyone is interested www.ucas.com/events/university-leicester-history-politics-and-international-relations-digital-taster-post-16-389901 has links to the various subjects available.

I only recently found out the Attenborough brothers grew up there. It seems great.

Just had a text to tell me dd's 3rd LFT (taken this morning) has come back negative.

Now I'm just waiting for notifications for test 1 (last Thur) and 2 (Tuesday) Hmm. World beating test & trace...

How badly Rowling? What is happening?

They've sent the entire year 10 cohort home, Oblomov - not sure how many tested positive, the message just says 'some', so potentially a couple of false positives, or not Confused.

Same situation in another local school too.

Is this possibly to do with a new strain?

Are you in an area that still has relatively high community levels Rowling ?

How many are in the Yr10 cohort @TheySeeHerRowling

TheySeeHerRowling · 11/03/2021 19:41

This is the odd thing - rates are now pretty low around here (33/100000 last time I checked which is significantly below the England average). The cohort is big - over 200 - so that's a lot of potential sibling exposures too.

There is, apparently (but anecdotally) a big outbreak in the local prison - maybe parents who work there?

What a bugger. Not even back a week!
I do hope we all manage to keep our dc in for at least a decent period of time!

EwwSprouts · 12/03/2021 15:36

How frustrating for all. I hope the DC concerned & their families are well. I'm sure as the parent of a child in the bubble you & they must want to scream at the hills.

DS back to school tomorrow!

It's been quite on this thread for a while. I am imagining everyone is in an exhausted heap.

I've been to pick up DS1 from university. It was lovely to have an outing and a walk around his university city. It's normally a tourist trap but the only people aground were a film crew.

DD is in the midst of coursework hell. It's one of the things we most liked about IB but we were warned it would be full on - and it is 😬

Piggywaspushed · 14/03/2021 19:13

Is that somewhere nice like York or Bath sandy?

Dd absolutely shattered from a week at school. She got out of bed 12.30. Got to keep her going for 3 weeks Confused.
We had parents evening 2 weeks ago and she’s had A* in every single assessment in one of her (‘old’ facilitating) subjects. They said they were struggling for targets.
She admitted she’s dreading A Level exams though. I said don’t worry as the Year 13s still don’t know what’s going on so god knows what’s happening to Year 12s.
I am hoping the 13’s will be leaving soonish so Year 12 can have their swanky 6th form rooms, not standing in a designated corridor, to relax in.

DD had 3 days at school last week, LFT number 2 tomorrow morning and hopefully a full week in school this week. Had an email from the school saying 98% consented to the testing and 98% attendance last week (years 7-13) and no news on exams for 2022 yet.
It’s definitely been an adjustment from rolling out of bed for registration at 9am to being up, dressed and out to catch the bus by 8:15am!

Mine have both been tired too, Y10 DD was back on Mon, LFTs on Mon/Wed/Fri and first one at home tonight. DS was back on Tue and has had two LFTs. I volunteered to help with the testing at his school on Friday, it was a good atmosphere, everyone working as a team and the students were very well behaved. No positives in 6th form so far.

Been for my jab today (gp 6). DH had his yesterday and started feeling really rough exactly 24 hours later Sad. The vaccination hub was also extremely well organised.
