@Frequentflier mine asked me to cut his this afternoon. I didn't want to. He wanted number 3 at the sides and left long on top. I'm not good at blending.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 17:13

Just so you all know, masks are being introduced. In typical DfE style though it is 'where social distancing is not possible' whatever that means.

icanbewhatiwant · 22/02/2021 17:13

In 7 weeks ds3 will have a 1960's hair style.

icanbewhatiwant · 22/02/2021 17:37

Now I don't know what to do about ds's driving theory. It's booked for 13th April. So all being well it should go ahead. However...he won't have a driving lesson before as they start again 12th April. He has mock exams starting 12th April too. Ds refuses point blank to start looking at the theory apps now because it's far too early. But I know nearer the time he will say he has to revise for mocks. So now I really don't know what to do. I can't see what other slots are available without cancelling the one on 12th.

Fferny1 · 22/02/2021 17:57

Dd is the same @Foolsasassin. She's 21 and an adult now.
All of her house returned weeks ago - a mixture of clinical & non clinical.
I fail to see how the government can stop them.

Just rewinding a few days, I have been ferreting about on the Royal Society of Chemistry website (for work reasons) and found this pdf explaining about their accreditation of degrees. www.rsc.org/images/Accreditation%20of%20Degree%20Booklet_tcm18-151306.pdf

Fiddlersgreen · 22/02/2021 21:08

My DS’s 17 and 14 are upset they have to spend nearly a month at school before they can have their hair cut! Won’t let me touch it, thankfully! Wouldn’t be any good at it!

What are the thoughts on the type of masks that to wear now they will wear them all day? Ours are just cheap fabric and I don’t know if it’ll be bad for them breathing that in all day?
I have to wear a mask all day at work (hospital) but the disposable ones we have to wear seem to be much more breathable

Fiddlersgreen · 22/02/2021 21:10

*over a month, that should say

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 21:15

MY DS wears specs so not sure how he'll manage (or me when I have my reading glasses on!)

EventuallyDeleted · 22/02/2021 21:16

I have to wear them for long periods at work too and find the paper ones a bit comfier, mainly because they're lighter. It seems to be easier to hear people speak through paper ones too. But its a lot of waste.

PaddingtonPaddington · 22/02/2021 21:21

DD really pleased to be going back on the 8th March but not so keen on having to get out of bed. DDs hair has got really long as she last had it cut in September. DS 15 hair looks very interesting.

Wheresthebeach · 22/02/2021 21:25

DD not happy about masks at all. Hates them.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 21:31

I think people who think all teenagers are leaping about with excitememt to go to school underappreciate how much their appearance matters to them!

DH is bald on top and I absolutely MASSACRED his remaining hair at the weekend. It's awful... not allowed near DS's curls.

EventuallyDeleted · 22/02/2021 21:43

My two both have very long hair that hadn't been cut for a long time even pre Covid, which is quite lucky. DD is excited about the prospect of swimming again from April.

Monkey2001 · 22/02/2021 21:44

I make the "monkey style" masks which are comfortable but quite warm. I definitely find them more comfortable than paper ones.

@piggywaspushed there is a youtube video by a doctor who uses liquid soap to prevent the moisture - and this one who tries various things and settles on a bit of micropore tape - looks worth trying.

EventuallyDeleted · 22/02/2021 21:46

Neither wears glasses either, luckily they didn't inherit my blind-as-a-bat eyesight, I mainly wear contact lenses but agree masks and glasses aren't a great combination. Definitely better if you tuck the mask under the glasses.

Heifer · 22/02/2021 22:28

Totally agree with Piggy - appearance is so important to DD. Luckily she has long hair and doesn't much matter if needs cutting - although she is narked that it her hair will need a Balayage well before she can get an appt :-) But that is why she had a Balayage so it isn't so obvious her roots need doing apparently....

Re masks, DD isn't at all bothered about having to wear one. She had to wear on everywhere except classroom/dinning in Sept - then changed to wearing in classrooms too. When this was relaxed she said all the girls in her classes kept wearing them - only took them off during lunch (they were supposed to have them on when not eating/drinking but DD admitted they just took longer to drink than usual..

Well done to Orange DD for getting a job. DD floated with the idea for about 5 mins. She was up for applying to a new pizza place opening in the area, her friend got a job there - until her friend told her she had to work every Fri & Sat night 6-11pm. DD said she hasn't been out for so long and doesn't want to be working when everyone will be going out eventually. "can you imagine, everyone else going out and I'm stuck working, no thanks".... she can't work Saturday afternoon due to hockey so I guess it's a no for now.. Tbh I am ok with her not working whilst she plays sport and is working hard at school.. Not quite so keen to fund her idea of a lifestyle though (that girl has expensive tastes)...

Fiddlersgreen · 22/02/2021 22:33

@piggywaspushed I got some anti-fog wipes from Amazon and they are actually pretty good. I clean my glasses with them when I get to work and they don’t steam up all day.
They do tend to get condensation on them if I need to go into the supermarket after work and it’s cold outside

20newnames · 22/02/2021 22:35

@icanbewhatiwant

DS has his theory test booked for 12th March! Was originally 16th Feb. I am waiting to see if there is any guidance in the next day or so on when they will resume. I don’t want to rearrange it for May if there is a chance he can actually take it in March!

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 22:58

I shall check out these tips : thanks!

Seeline · 23/02/2021 09:26

DD wears glasses and her school made masks compulsory unless eating or PE in September. She definitely found the disposables better than the fabric ones in term of steaming up, but wore her contacts when she remembered.

icanbewhatiwant · 23/02/2021 10:01

@20newnames the day before my ds then. If the current guidelines go ahead then the theory tests will be on. But ds will not look at the apps we downloaded. He only had 3 driving lessons too. I think I might have to pay the instructor to do a FaceTime theory lesson. It would be great to get it out the way. Ds just says it's easy and he will only take an hour to learn it.

20Newnames · 23/02/2021 11:05

@icanbewhatiwant - how bizarre I got an email and can see your message in the threads I am watching front page but when I click in here it is gone Confused

Interesting you say if current guidelines go ahead it would be on, I didn't think it probably would be on 12th March as somewhere i saw mention of driving tests from mid April so when I saw a slot for 20th April I grabbed it and have changed it to then.

Like your DS, mine has the apps but has pretty much not looked at them! I think they are mainly a case of just repetition and getting to know the questions and what they want you to answer, I am not so sure that it would be worth a facetime lesson to be honest? If your DS can cram, just get him on it? (She says knowing that didn't work with DS1 and he did hardly any revision for it but scraped through with the pass mark)

We are also not in a hurry really as DS hasn't had any official lessons on the road (he had a couple six months ago off road) but has only been out with me 4-5 times so far (his birthday was a couple of weeks ago). He won't be able to have proper lessons until mid April at least, and that may be delayed as the instructor will still have old pupils on her books that would normally have taken a test by now.

icanbewhatiwant · 23/02/2021 11:14

@20newnames sorry my fault. I thought you said 12th April first time. But you said March. Ds's is 13th April. I'm hoping it will go ahead. But not sure yet.

20newnames · 23/02/2021 11:35

Ah, that makes sense! DS's was 16 Feb then 12 March and is now 20th April so fingers crossed that also goes ahead.
