Thread 8 Carry on Corona Cohort: GAV give us the CAG?

OrangeCinnamon1 · 16/08/2020 09:10

Welcome all to the 8th Thread for this year's GCSE cohort the Corona Cohort!

Some of us have been here since I started first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. It is hoped this will continue. Going forward we intend to stay in secondary so any new threads should have 'GCSE Summer 2020 Thread # : Carry on Corona Cohort' in title just to make it easier to find.

From now on our DS/DD may go down various paths so we decided not to be exclusionary and stay right here in Secondary until HQ chuck us Grin
At this precise moment in time we are awaiting GCSE results that seem to have been produced by an algorithm that also takes very little account of Teacher Centre Assessed Grades. There is an appeal process but it was changed yesterday to include mock results and coursework, then taken down again for review.
Trying to protect our young people's mental health.during this shit show , which the government claims is their priority...when they talk about wanting students back in schools/college in September...

first ever thread

Another very woffly interview on R4 Today.

stoneysongs · 18/08/2020 08:25

I expect "the stupid cap" is what Dom makes him wear whenever he's been extra stupid

I just watched it. I see the phrase "working with" is one of his favourites. And just complete avoidance of answering anything.

I agree that a sheet with three columns with CAG, moderated and actual is what is needed

Paranoidmarvin · 18/08/2020 08:30

So. Are we thinking we get a higher grade for each subject. So they can pick and choose which one from each grading. I assumed we would have to take one set or the other. But my dh says we will be able to have one from one and one from the other

itsgettingweird · 18/08/2020 08:37

I think the get a crib sheet with words they must use.

We could probably have a game of "minister bingo" now - much better than MN bingo Grin

I'll start

"Who has world beating?!"

Hopeful201 · 18/08/2020 08:38

My DH thought the school would do the admin and work out the higher grade for each pupil. I don't think they will be able to do that in such a short time, plus when do they get the results anyway?! My DS is saying he can't be bothered to get up early to see his results-is anyone else getting results by email and thinking of looking at them prior to DC waking up? (I am only half joking)

stoneysongs · 18/08/2020 08:41

@Hopeful201 I would love to but have promised DS I won't and would be scared of him finding out Grin

Paranoidmarvin · 18/08/2020 08:41

@Hopeful201 we have to wait till 10.30 to go to the school as that was the time slot. Now I have no idea. The heads of years and headteacher must be pulling their hair out

stoneysongs · 18/08/2020 08:42

Having said that, his side of the bargain is getting up to look at 8am. He has to be at school by half nine anyway.

FoolsAssassin · 18/08/2020 08:46

I love the stupid cap picture 😂😂

3 columns sounds sensible so assumably it won’t be that and it will change by lunchtime.

20newnames · 18/08/2020 08:46

We are getting them by email to DS’s email address. I do have access to his email but wouldn’t look before him. At the end of the day, as invested as I am, they are DS’s results not mine.

OrangeCinnamon1 · 18/08/2020 08:49

@FoolsAssassin😂

DS has to log on to some system to get his. Not allowed to go into school. Hasn’t checked if he can even access it yet! I think all the to-ing and fro-ing has almost switched him off now, it’s like he’s lost whatever interest he had.

@Shimy so sad reading that story Sad amazing how much your DS has achieved, you must feel so proud.

Surely Gav has to go?!!! which of course means he won’t.

pasanda · 18/08/2020 08:53

What an absolute car crash of an interview! Surely he has to go!!

itsgettingweird · 18/08/2020 08:56

Hopeful I would have if they were emailed! But my ds is a nightmare and he makes me have everything on my phone anyway as he's so disorganised!

But we are collecting his from school at 8.40!

Ds has double barrelled surname and if he had mine first or just mine he'd get than at 8!

His school have a fab system and all local schools have been complaining about their arrangements and using his school as an example.

I'm thinking his school probably wished they had said they'd email now Grin

MrsHamlet · 18/08/2020 08:57

Gav said that on Thursday they get the higher one. Schools already have the CAG and get the GAV tomorrow. So I assume that exams officers will have to do the working out. Whether they'll ever get to see "the other one" is anyone's guess.

cheninblanc · 18/08/2020 08:58

We have a 10am slot. Then she's out for brunch with friends and we'll celebrate in the evening together

RedskyAtnight · 18/08/2020 09:00

I'd like to add "Triple lock" to minister bingo. Using the definition as provided by my DC's school newsletter:

The “Triple Lock” proposal is a typical political response to a problem. It is designed to give the illusion that
the Government is listening to concerns and acting to right wrongs. Whereas in reality it is a deflection
technique designed to kick the problem into the future when they hope people will have moved on to other
issues.

FoolsAssassin · 18/08/2020 09:02

I am really laughing at ‘getting the GAV’ 😂😂😂

Northumberlandlass · 18/08/2020 09:08

Made me chuckle

beenrumbled · 18/08/2020 09:18

I watched the BBC interview this morning - Louise was getting more and more annoyed and being as direct as possible and he just refused to answer and deflected or parroted his statements.

As far as we are aware DD will go to school as planned and collect her results on Thursday.

We will wait for DS1 college to be in touch regarding re issuing his A levels

AWanderingMinstrel · 18/08/2020 09:21

Our school does IGCSE English and maths- so our results will look interesting on Thursday as we get them then. CIE currently does not allow individual appeals so those results will stand.
Love the Frank Spencer pic above GrinGrinGrin

Monkey2001 · 18/08/2020 09:22

If the school gets the GAVs (Grin) we can find out what they were from a SAR, so they will probably just share them.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/08/2020 09:23

What's a SAR?
