Hello All,

Welcome to thread 6 - results...

Last thread here:

Gcses 2019 support thread 5 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/3610608-gcses-2019-support-thread-5

It's been a fantastically supportive set of threads to date with a diverse set of expectations and challenges (for both parents and children).

I expect this thread may be the most emotive for us all (crikey how did the time fly!!)

Good luck everyone Thanks

@DeRigueurMortis - No real backstory on goat tattoo. Dh HATES tattoos / Ds now has 2 - wants another. He spends months ‘desensitising’ Dh: telling him he is going to, before he walks in with it, in the hope the very dissappointed look won’t be on his Dads face. (It always will be). Ds then changed his warning to ‘ shall we get matching tattoos’ then ‘matching goat tattoos’ alongside various photos of goats pulling mad faces. This is every night, for months.

Congratulations to everyone’s little ones for their results. I have read too many to congratulate individually but some stellar results are here.

Congratulations to all those who got what they needed to get them to next wanted step, I’m happy for all of your children.

For those that missed what they needed , as I said yesterday (from experience with my Ds) those grades do not define, nor stop you - it’s not a fail. It’s not the grade that matters it’s what you do to build on from them going forward that matters. Today is when they find their motivation.

Got Dd’s Results Ds came too - last time he was in that hall was when he picked up his results (and got rejected for returning to 6th form there) he had a big hug and catch up with his old form tutor / rugby manager whom he hero worshipped. Nice.

Dd is ‘content’ with her results overall but unhappy she didn’t hit her target grades. I’m very proud of her. I’m relieved she has what she needs to do her choice of A’levels where she wants (staying on for 6th form). That has all be signed off and accepted this morning - they got the offer letter in with their results if they got their grades.

She got 8’s in art, biology, history, maths, physics, french, Eng.Lang & Eng. Lit with a 7 in Chemistry (not happy) as it’s an A’level choice.

Her friend group all seemed to be signing and handing in the 6th form acceptances too - so it’s all positive for her in September. Which is the main thing.

This thread has been a lifesaver for me - I’m hoping we all get to check in on each other on a thread going forward .

Well done all on results, although in the spectacular stakes grumpy's DC will be hard to top. :)

Slightly lower expectations here, however grades needed for A level choices all achieved.

Issue - seemingly at DS3 school in general - around English Lang & Lit results (AQA). A lot seemed to have come out well below expectation. DS3 1 off grade boundary in both off them. School have already suggested remark in both.

Still last set ever of GCSE results, for my DCs at least, to worry about. Wine Wine Wine

Can anyone tell me what 32 in science combined means? Is that a pass or not?

Fancyaruck · 22/08/2019 12:47

burn That's a 3 and a 2 - looking at a 4 for a pass.

burntthepasta · 22/08/2019 12:52

@Fancyaruck thank you 😊

JustRichmal · 22/08/2019 12:55

Does anyone else have a results sheet with marks for some exams given, but not for others? When will they get the marks for them all to see if they are a point or two off and so worth considering a re-mark?

Dd only given marks for her Edexcel papers and not the Aqa. I am trusting the school to have flagged if any thing needed remarking.

It's interesting to hear those reporting Lower than expected grades for English language. Dd got a 9 for lit and 6 for language when she'd been getting 8/9 for the past 2 years. She didn't like the paper though.

She got a 7 for the exam she accidentally took the phone in, thankfully no marks deducted.

Michaelahpurple · 22/08/2019 13:05

@agirlhasnocake - that surely has to be a remark candidate. Fingers crossed they find an unmarked sheet down the back of the sofa

onaroll · 22/08/2019 13:10

@fabtasticmrpox

That’s great news about phone - marks not affected, especially as she was so honest at time.

cptartapp · 22/08/2019 13:11

1x6
2x7
4x8
2x9 (one being English language where he was put in top set originally to push up the number of boys). Very unexpected result.
Very pleased. Well done everyone.

daisypond · 22/08/2019 13:15

My nephew, whose mum died suddenly and unexpectedly after Easter, did so well, with 8s and 9s in everything. Couldn’t be prouder of his determination to carry on.

zen1 · 22/08/2019 13:23

DS did well enough for someone who did no revision and no homework in year 11. He is happy as he’s able to do the A levels he wanted. Well done to everyone’s DC who got the grades they wanted.

DeRigueurMortis · 22/08/2019 13:29

Thanks wonderful Daisy

@Hugo thanks. I will email the school and ask.

Sososour · 22/08/2019 13:41

Some great results here. Congratulations to all for the hard work that went into them!

Parsley65 · 22/08/2019 13:42

Once the celebrations/commiserations are over...
It's worth remembering that university is only 5 terms away 😬😂

Rufuscat19 · 22/08/2019 13:45

My Dd school had slips of paper advising about any remarks they recommended which was a good idea.
She has one grade 7 which they suggested for a remark, her lowest grade which was for English lit.

Sammi38 · 22/08/2019 13:46

Hi all,

Just after some advice please.

Dd collected her results today, she done well although not so well in the English language and English lit. They were the AQA board.

In her English language mocks she got an 8, in the actual gcse she got a 5. The difference is 3 grades. My Dd has said she found the paper fine and didn’t struggle with it, so not sure what’s gone on there?

Not sure whether there’s been a mistake with the marking, or she’s not done as well as she thought she had? Not sure wether to send it for review in case her grade drops to a 4. Anyone else been through this?

Also, she was one mark away from a 6 in literature so we are going to send it for review.

Fredflintstonethefirst · 22/08/2019 13:51

Hi, I have a question. Dd was predicted 8in history. She got a 7 in the Mick and worked really hard.
She ended up with a 5.
Would you ask for a remark? I've tried to contact the school but no answer on phone or e mail yet.
Is it likely she just flunked it, or could there be an error?
All her other grades were pretty much as expected, 8,8,7,6,5,55,4
Thanks

SolitudeAtAltitude · 22/08/2019 13:52

Justrichmall, it depends on the exam board

Aqa do not give points, only the final grade

DeRigueurMortis · 22/08/2019 13:52

Sammi a few poster have mentioned less than expected results for English.

DS did AQA - however he reversed his result (got a 4 and 5 Lang/lit in mocks and 6's today).

I'd probably start by asking what mark she got and speaking to the school. Was your DD an anomaly or did many students do worse than anticipated? If lots of students did far worse than expected there many be grounds to investigate further.

If she got a 5 but close to the boundary for a 6 then it's probably worth a review, but conversely it was a low 5 then you might not want to risk a 4.

My DS got a mix of 6/7/8, the 8s were for physics and maths, which he wants to do for a level, so very happy with that for him.

The 6s were all for subjects he loved, like computing and music, so he is a bit disappointed with that.

I realise it is VERY MC and MN to be disappointed with a B Grin

Someone kick me
