Eton, Harrow, Winchester, or Westminster?

So our son is in prep school, and it's around the time that we begin considering which schools he should apply for.
His marks are very good and he enjoys reading. He is apathetic to sport, so we think an unashamedly academic school may be good for him. That's why we initally thought Eton and Harrow were probably not good choices, although we don't want to completely rule them out.
The issue with Westminster is that os only boards during weekends. It is also partially coeducational, and we want our son to have an all-male education.

Is everybody connected with Eton as obnoxious as you are peteneras?

howwudufeel · 13/07/2019 21:37

You’re daft too. I haven’t ‘slandered’ Cameron’s Dad. It’s well documented he had assets in an offshore trust. Further, contrary to what you claim, he is connected to Eton. He used the money from said offshore trust to pay for the fees for Cameron’s education...at Eton.

EstoPerpetua · 13/07/2019 21:45

@howwudufeel, I hope you have also read my posts.

peteneras · 13/07/2019 22:00

So everything now begins to fall in place. I asked many times before if you had been to Eton. If you had, then within 5 mins you'd soon realise that everyone is as nice as they come and you'd be hard pressed to find another friendier place - school or otherwise.

Also, I pay for the prices of my groceries at the Tesco checkout till. Does it make me connected with Tesco?

howwudufeel · 13/07/2019 22:01

Anybody who chooses to send their dc their is connected with the school.

howwudufeel · 13/07/2019 22:10

There not their.

GoFiguire · 13/07/2019 23:55

Lord Lucan went to Eton.

peteneras · 14/07/2019 01:15

As did Guy Burgess.

peteneras · 14/07/2019 01:32

"What bothers me is people making assumptions about a particular school and its entire cohort from 1660 onwards, just because of a few prominent, unpleasant and disreputable individuals."

You're 220 years off, EstoPerpetua - since 1440!

SemperIdem · 14/07/2019 01:39

I didn’t expect the most amusing thread of the week to appear in Secondary Eduction, it isn’t one I out look for as my child has just turned 4.

Well done op Wink

EstoPerpetua · 14/07/2019 07:38

Yes, sorry, Pete. Middle Aged brain. I should know this, all the more so as I have a jute bag to prove it. Grin

Cyberworrier · 14/07/2019 07:40

Pete, you aren’t selling Eton-and-all-its-associates as being as lovely, friendly, decent etc as you may intend? Rather your posts come across as patronising, argumentative and a little garbled at points.
I think Esto did a better job of challenging people’s misconceptions and biases about the school. 🤷‍♀️

TheBigBallOfOil · 14/07/2019 08:07

Hmmm people should be careful. There is no suggestion Cameron Snr acted unlawfully.
He puts money offshore - I put money in ISA. Am I a scumbag too? Government approved one if so

EstoPerpetua · 14/07/2019 08:12

Thanks, Cyberworrier. There are lots of very normal people with sons at Eton, honestly!

howwudufeel · 14/07/2019 08:21

No need to be careful when stating facts.

TheBigBallOfOil · 14/07/2019 09:37

as others have found to their cost, it all depends how you state them. To imply wrongdoing where there was none is libellous, I’m afraid. However much you personally dislike the target.

howwudufeel · 14/07/2019 09:40

Oh for goodness sake TheBigBallofOil. Firstly you can’t libel the dead. Secondly saying something which is true isn’t libellous. Thirdly, just because you are rich doesn’t mean you can shut people up from speaking their mind. You Etonians really are showing your true colours on this thread.

TheBigBallOfOil · 14/07/2019 09:43

I haven’t been to Eton, nor do I send my kids there.
I like your acknowledgement though that what gets you off the hook is the fact that your target has snuffed it. Nice ethics you have there.

howwudufeel · 14/07/2019 10:22

No. I am off the hook because it’s true.

marytuda · 14/07/2019 10:55

Gosh - meant to keep out of this discussion but have to say the manners and discussion tactics of the pro-Etonians here are a pretty poor advertisement for private education! Personal abuse, misquotation, off-the-wall assumptions . . It's all here! And I thought debating tactics was one thing private schools did well Wink

EstoPerpetua · 14/07/2019 11:52

I hope you are not including me in this generalisation, marytuda...

howwudufeel · 14/07/2019 12:15

As far as I am concerned you area notable exception to the rule Esto.

MECC · 14/07/2019 16:45

I honestly do not care at all about David Cameron's offshore trusts. All I want is a good education for my son.
There are so many forums on the internet to have uncivil conversations about politics. This is not one.
