Eton, Harrow, Winchester, or Westminster?

So our son is in prep school, and it's around the time that we begin considering which schools he should apply for.
His marks are very good and he enjoys reading. He is apathetic to sport, so we think an unashamedly academic school may be good for him. That's why we initally thought Eton and Harrow were probably not good choices, although we don't want to completely rule them out.
The issue with Westminster is that os only boards during weekends. It is also partially coeducational, and we want our son to have an all-male education.

Hun [shocked] Grin
Haha, sounds like him- I won’t say which teacher he is, but from social media he doesn’t look like he has aged in the last decade or two at all!

I thought you said you didn’t have time to write all this codswallop pete?

peteneras · 13/07/2019 09:59

"However I would never send a child to Eton now, as they will have to live with this awful negativity and will be expected to justify their very existence. I’m afraid the current bias against old Etonians now equals the advantage they used to have."

Never say 'never' jeanne16, I bet you my mortgage, my car, or anything you want, the humbugs and hypocrites described above will be looking for Eton, Harrow, Winchester and Westminster if by chance they happen to come to money, e.g. compliments from Lotto.

All you have to do is to remember Labour personalities like Diane Abbott and a whole host of others that it's not worth my time on a Saturday morning to go over.

Meanwhile, in the real world there would be others who are ready to kill for a place at Eton.

peteneras · 13/07/2019 10:04

No, GoFiguire, it's Saturday 10.00 a.m. and I'm off now to pursue my normal Saturday activities.

howwudufeel · 13/07/2019 15:04

peteneras You are really doing a great job of perpetuating how awful people associated with Eton are Grin

growlingbear · 13/07/2019 18:10

the lads I knew at sixth form who came from all-boy private schools were the biggest pricks there. And had no idea how to socialise with others, especially females.

But it doesn't have to be that way. My DSs are at a boys' school but they have friends who are female, from social clubs, from the local girls' school, even some from primary school. They all party together and are very happy in each other's company, platonically as well as romantically.

JoJoSM2 · 13/07/2019 18:34

Growling, doesn't sound like they're full time boarders? Those do need to catch up socially I found.

Needmoresleep · 13/07/2019 19:12

Boarders seem to be the staple of a rather notorious West London party circuit, something my day pupil DC were keen to stay well away from. Oddly pupils from single sex schools also seemed to party more. Co-ed pupils did not seem to have the same need to rush out and party with the opposite sex.

Which is why I think Westminster's co-ed sixth form is a good thing.

Grin Lumene

peteneras · 13/07/2019 20:10

Yes indeed, Lumene, this is exactly what I mean, Shadow attorney general, no less. Look at that face - Humbugs and hypocrites personified!

peteneras · 13/07/2019 20:28

Yes, Shami Chakrabarti, if you've got money you go for Eton, Fee: >£40,000; not a sub-standard £18,000 one.

But what you failed to recognise is that Eton have eyes and the likes of you and yours won't stand a chance in a million years.

Needmoresleep · 13/07/2019 20:30

Come now Pete, she chose Nigel Farage's old school.

howwudufeel · 13/07/2019 20:36

Well I can’t speak for anyone else but I can say without fear of contradiction that I am not Shami Chakrabarti.

Yawn

peteneras · 13/07/2019 20:43

That's the nearest she could come anywhere close to Eton, Needmoresleep. Dulwich's Head, Joe Spence was a housemaster at Eton - 'Master-in-College' i.e. Housemaster of College where all the King's Scholars live.

howwudufeel · 13/07/2019 20:44

How did you make your money peteneras?

Needmoresleep · 13/07/2019 20:56

Is this a variant on the Spartacus threads?

I am not Shami.

howwudufeel · 13/07/2019 20:58
Grin
peteneras · 13/07/2019 21:09

Who told you I make any money, howwudufeel? I'm sure you're richer than me. Grin

howwudufeel · 13/07/2019 21:11

Well you are rich enough to send your dc to Eton and you called me a scrounger so I was curious.

MECC · 13/07/2019 21:13

My God, quite the dumpster fire has happened! I had no idea this would turn political.

@MECC Grin

peteneras · 13/07/2019 21:21

My whole purpose here on this thread is to try telling everyone you don't have to be rich to go to Eton. Currently there are 86 boys there who don't pay a bean but get paid instead even with pocket money. But you were so dead-headed to write Eton off and even (very unwisely) try slandering even people who had nothing to do with Eton, e.g. Cameron's dad.
