Prom done & holiday is over, back to check in on you lovely lot.
Triggers I’m so pleased you have some better news for dd 🤞her result is still a good one.
Pointy so sorry for your dd, I’m also a sufferer & agree with the info you’ve been given. She MUST rest when she needs to, I fought against it & would plough on until I couldn’t go on & would trigger awful flares that could last weeks or more. Regular gentle exercise helps, managing stress Pilates & yoga in my case. A lo carb diet seems to help me, didn’t you mention she was gf? I love carbs but have noticed they make me worse.
We have reading to do here but she needed some downtime & wants to leave it for a while. No NCS just a long summer horsing around now!

steppemum · 11/07/2019 09:57

ds has sixth form induction today and tomorrow.
He normally cycles to the station and goes on the train.
All week we have had a prolonged compaign for him NOT to cycle today and tomorrow.
Last night I realised he was actually stressed by this (not just angling for a lift)
all boys school.
co-ed sixth form
Got to make a good first impression

Grin Grin

we gave him a lift!

steppemum · 11/07/2019 10:00

Oh and
primary school - white polos and black trousers
secondary - white shirts and ties (winter) and white polos (summer) and black trousers.

After much nagging he has gone out and bought clothes suitable for sixth form
he has bought:
black trousers
white polos (Ok they do have a tiny bit of colour on the collar)

Iambuffy · 11/07/2019 19:06

Bless him
😂😂😂😂

I've kept ds1 busy today shifting crates at foodbank.

We've had a fraught few days as we had a (very small) house fire on Tuesday. No one hurt but still washing soft furnishings to get the smell out :(

My holiday cannot come soon enough!

Just struck me that DS finished his last GCSE exam a month ago today! They are starting to feel like a bad dream.
I believe it is around a month to go until the A Level results come out, and then a week after it is ours. So almost the midway point between exams and results.

SilentSister · 23/07/2019 11:50

Just back from a lovely hot holiday, returning to a less lovely, hot UK. I don't mind the heat, but sadly we don't have a pool, or the sea, or air conditioning, or someone else doing the cooking and cleaning!

One month to go until results - that actually went quite quickly in the end.

DD read quite a lot on the beach, and we have bought some more books to keep her busy for the rest of the summer. She has also volunteered at the local cattery, she has a taster on Monday to see if she can handle all the cat poo cleaning, hopefully it won't be so hot then. The smell - bleugh.

Hope everyone is having a lovely break.

Rugbylife · 23/07/2019 16:22

Can’t believe it’s one month and results will be here!
We had a fabulous holiday to Canada to celebrate my 50th was home a week and our house was burgled while we were all in bed😡 they took my car keys amongst other things and car off drive! Husband woke at 3am hearing them on the drive. It’s been an awful few days and my youngest ds12 has been so scared they’ll come back, it’s really knocked his confidence as he had been staying in house on his own whilst I’ve been popping out and about. Now I don’t want to leave him. Luckily eldest is home from Uni so around a lot of the time. Ds16 has been enjoying working 3 days a week and earning £100 per week, he’s saving for a laptop for 6th form.

Iambuffy · 23/07/2019 20:22

Oh Rugby! How awful! Hope they catch the b@*&^$#ds!

We are back from hols which were much needed!

The holidays are going quite fast really. Not enjoying the heat :(

Foslady · 24/07/2019 08:59

@Rugbylife my blood is boiling for you too - hope they catch the little shits Angry.
Dd’s Loving her NCS, they’ve managed to raise twice the target of cash so can extend their plans (water play wall at a community nursery and reinstate the sand pit and a bench and planters at a community garden). Think it’s been a learning curve for some boys on the course - they’ve had a lesson in sexism in the workplace and what cannot be said as so called humour!!! (Even their mentor was shocked at the written comment - thank God I raised a girl who is not afraid to call out on it (and it was bad!)).
And just under two weeks to holiday.......on the count down!

raspberryrippleicecream · 24/07/2019 18:22

Rugby I'm so sorry, how awful.

DS2 has also thoroughly enjoyed NCS. He didn't know until midway through the second week I knew his group leader! They are doing lots of outside community service in the heat this week!

Arewedone · 26/07/2019 11:19

Rugby that’s terrible! Feel for your younger one, must be so worried! Hope they find them!!
Still on holiday here, another 2 weeks to go! Was going great until Dd asked if her boyf could come out for the last 2 weeks, he arrived 2 days ago but Dd has now decided she doesn’t want him as her bf. so it’s not quite the relaxed holiday we were hoping for!

Iambuffy · 29/07/2019 16:51

Well, 3 weeks on Thursday is results day! It's gone pretty fast so far...

Ds1 is getting bored now I think...he is away with dh and ds2 for a few days next week.

Arewedone · 30/07/2019 00:59

myrtleWilson · 30/07/2019 12:11

No, nope, not on your Nelly, non, nein danke, no gracias.

I am quite happy in my bubble here - don't want to contemplate results day so I'll reiterate - no thank you very much Grin

Iambuffy · 30/07/2019 13:49

Sorry myrtle!!😁

It’s hit dd this week too. She had a free week at the beginning but that was prom week, then 4 weeks NCS and now a week before we go away. She’s now attempting to hand sew a skirt (we have a perfectly good machine upstairs!!!).
Sadly NCS finished on a sour note - after raising £500 her team did the works requested at a local community daycare centre and on handover day they invited the local mayor who then proceeded to be extremely rude about their efforts telling them that they had wasted their time as they were relying on others to do work (they were asked to provide planting areas as part of the scheme). He wouldn’t accept that the nursery had asked for the works and wanted to be able to plant out (they even bought seeds for them) despite being told this numerous times.
Luckily my local councillor has been more receptive (I sort of know her) and has asked me to send her details so it can be raised with him about how he has trashed not only their work but also the work done by the NCS team building the kids up making them want to put into the community not just take out.....Angry

marmiteloversunite · 31/07/2019 08:03

Wow!! What a terrible attitude from the mayor. That is totally disgusting that the young people had put themselves out to achieve something for others and he was so rude!!

chocolateworshipper · 02/08/2019 23:46

Results this month! Eek!

Out of interest @marmiteloversunite have you tried the new, stronger Marmite? If so, what did you think?

Foslady · 03/08/2019 09:37

19 days and counting........

Iambuffy · 03/08/2019 12:08

Eeeek....

Ds1 in vienna with ds2 and dh.

OP posts:
marmiteloversunite · 03/08/2019 16:29

Chocolate I didn't know that existed!! My DD would probably love it as she has loads more than me on her toast!

Arewedone · 08/08/2019 02:20

5 days to first results- gulp

DeRigueurMortis · 08/08/2019 02:46

Checking in from abroad!

We don't get results until the 22nd.

DS doesn't want to talk/hear about it...

On the good news front after last minute prom decision, we managed to get him kitted out and he looked brilliant :-) and most importantly had a great time.

On a bit of a sad note, as per my post before the end of exams, the "split" between his friendship group has widened further over the summer (based on where they intend to study further - the Grammar or HE College).

It's very definitely two camps now. Not in a nasty way, rather they seem to be cleaving to the friends they hope/expect to be with over the next few years.

Hope everyone is having a great summer :-)

Arewedone · 08/08/2019 04:41

@DeRigueurMortis same here re friendship groups , those staying on v those leaving.
Great you sorted out prom and DS enjoyed it, it seems such a long time ago now doesn’t it!
We are waiting for both A level and igcse resultsHmm

Hoooo · 08/08/2019 07:39

2 weeks today....
