Dd2 has been to two and has another one this weekend. It's been great as its taken the onus off me to plan anything.

cantkeepawayforever · 18/06/2019 19:08

DD is off on a preparation for A-level French exchange tomorrow.....so not much chance for partying!

DishingOutDone · 18/06/2019 20:11

Thank you for all the suggestions, I will see what I can do. I'll let you know if anything was well received Confused

ElectricLions · 18/06/2019 20:23

Ds refused to go to a party as it would be kids who had stolen alcohol from their parents and necking red bull and vodka. Said there was no way he wanted to be part of that.

We haven't done anything special today for end of exams. We are going out for a meal at the weekend as a family but what Ds really wants is to just switch his brain off. He has been revising since year 10 for all the tests and year 10 mocks all the way through year 11 with both November and February mocks.

We haven't had a holiday since last summer only a quick weekend away and due to GCSE stuff but also a huge work project for Dh so we are looking forward to Ds's choice of Florida in summer.

steppemum · 18/06/2019 20:33

for end of exams I bought a nice choccy cake, and he got to choose food. He chose a kebab!

He hasn' been to a party, they all fizzled out, I think parents all said no!
But a close friend has a birthday this week, and they are apparently going to a nice restaurant. I'm not sure if any adults will be present!

No parties here but her mates all piled round here whilst I was at work for pizza and board games (they know how to live!!!)
I am so lucky - no sick to worry about!!!

Bimkom · 18/06/2019 22:45

No parties either. Some friends met up on Saturday afternoon, outside somewhere or the other, but he was back by 9pm. He has joined a gym though (not the free on that lambuffy suggested (sob), he nixed that on the grounds that he wanted to go where his friends go), but he did join one that a friend apparently goes to regularly with the plan to go with the friend.
On Friday I went out and bought some baklava. There is a shop not so far from us (about 20 minutes walk) that makes plates of all different kinds and it is a lovely gift if one is invited out or if one has guests. DS is very partial to it. So we had baklava for dessert on Friday night to celebrate.

gleegeek · 18/06/2019 23:47

Dd is sooooo tired but not sleeping. I don't think she can switch her mind off. She's going camping with friends tomorrow for a couple of nights so I'm hoping all the fresh air (and hopefully exercise) will exhaust and relax her so she finally sleeps. She's been on a very thin fuse the past few days, i think a change of scene will be good for us all!
We bought tickets for a musical to mark the end of exams, she was very pleased!

myrtleWilson · 19/06/2019 06:58

It's prom day!! Wish me luck and place your bets on timing of prom related mini melt down....

Iambuffy · 19/06/2019 07:35

Ds1 also saying he's struggling to sleep

Iambuffy · 19/06/2019 07:37

No parties here either.
He went to laser quest with friends yesterday and is going again next week.

behindlocknumbernine · 19/06/2019 07:40

Oooh, good luck mytle. Please keep us posted Smile

Dd stayed the night at her friend's house whose birthday party it was last night, as no trains are running here due to a strike. Not entirely sure how she'll make it home, friend lives an hour's drive away and we are all at work. I told her that could be her challenge for the day. She is sensible and will categorically not get in a taxi, so no worries for me that she gets in a dodgy one. Today will be a lesson in bus timetables and local geography as she puzzles out an alternative way to get home Grin

Dh has already left for work. Ds needs to be in for 10 (he works as a chef at a tapas bar type place alongside being at uni). So it's just me at the kitchen table with coffee and laptop...
It is very, very strange not having to chase Dd out of bed and off to school in the mornings....

Iambuffy · 19/06/2019 07:47

I spent yesterday in a and e with mum.
She was kept in overnight so got to go back in later.
Then I got a phone call that my dear aunt is dying over in Ireland.
And dh left for a week away with work at 7am.
Missed a dental appt that no doubt they will charge me for and an important school meeting about ds2s residential trip.
Quite fed up this morning.
Sorry for moany post.
Hope all DC are enjoying their parties/proms x

Oh dear lambuffy sorry to hear that your mum and aunt aren’t well. It sounds like you are perfectly entitled to a good moan.
Hope your mum is feeling better today. Perhaps the dentist will be lenient if you explain why you couldn’t attend as cancelling wasn’t likely to be a priority with your mum in hospital.
For everyone else enjoy the proms.

eatthatfrog · 19/06/2019 08:22

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for all the support over the last few weeks. Dd managed to make all exams except fro history and English lit which has caused some upset as history was 4th Level choice but now looking at Physcology.

well done to everyone for making it through and heartfelt wishes to all those who dc who have suffered illness along the way.

dd was mean to be starting NCS on 30th Jue but when I chased last week they told me she had been wait listed. I complained as last communication, we had was 21st Nov stating she had place, they offered a place on 21st July but she's not happy as wanted to be with friends. She is going to ring them and sort it out.

its prom tomorrow but dd not going now as she's worried about having a fit.

she's exhausted so taking a few days to relax, sleep, make friendship bracelets and hopefully tied room up! looking to do some volunteering over summer, possible job to raise money for Borneo trip next year.

We are also looking at getting her some support to understand and manage stress as this maybe one of her epilepsy triggers; we have started looking at new ways of working as she was a crammer and that will not work going forward due to possibility of a fit so starting to set her up a system and process for sixth form now as she intends to study 4As and an EPQ as per standard 6th form requirement on top of gold DoE

I'm planning a couple of days in London next week with dd and would like to see a show. Any recommendations as she's not that keen on musicals.

I will be lurking over summer, have a great time and see you all on22 or just before

Iambuffy · 19/06/2019 08:27

Thank you x

Sounds like a good plan eat

Just discovered dd is in school all next week for 6th form orientation and 'activities'. She's looking forward to it and tbh so am I!

Foslady · 19/06/2019 09:56

So sorry to hear your update Iambuffy - just when you need a break from it all...Flowers
Dd couldn’t sleep last night either - hoping it will settle down soon. She has to pick up her prom dress today - post office refused to hand it to a neighbour to sign for despite me putting a note on the door - I know it’s to cover them but for crying out loud!!!!! So now dd has a bus trip to the next town to get it (more expense on top of the p &p!). She said she’d then go to the gym but when I pointed out that this thing should come in a box about a foot square changed her mind. It looks like I now am doing a YouTube HIIT session after work with her!!
Good luck with the prom!

Foslady · 19/06/2019 09:58

Oh, and after her dad said he’d sorted a prom car he now might not have done.......luckily I have a friend on standby........

steppemum · 19/06/2019 10:13
