SilentSister I think they’re all individuals and the most important thing is that they do what’s right for them Smile Ds likes a party - went out at 5 last night and has just got an Uber home (he’s my party child). In contrast dd (year 9) and I went to the theatre last night (Amalie the musical - 100% recommend) and I’m currently sitting in a very cold atrium whilst she does her Grade 5 music theory- I can’t see her ever being a big partner.

Hope all those dc who have finished are enjoying a break - huge congratulations to all the prize winners and stay strong and healthy vibes for those who have exams next week.

It’s great to see the prizes that have been awarded and how schools have celebrated - leavers stuff was done all before the exams at dd’s.
So glad the shoes are sorted as well!!!
Think we’re all ok for prom now - although wantvher to try her dress on to check otvatill fits ok (was ok 3 months ago - she bought it in February last year!!!! ). Keep seeing panicky messages about where to go for last minute alterations - don’t want to have to join the throng!!!

fairweathercyclist · 15/06/2019 13:16

I can't decide whether I am relieved or slightly sad for DD that she has never been to a party

Same with DS. I think I'll stick with relieved. Plenty of time at 6th form college and certainly at uni. I genuinely can't remember if we did anything when we finished our GCSEs. I suspect not, while I remember going out after A level results. I had a Saturday job so I had some increased hours over the post-GCSE summer, and that is all I remember.

Iambuffy · 15/06/2019 14:11

Ds1 had a chill out yesterday afternoon then went to pils for a sleepover.

Off out for a meal later.

Next week will be weird!!

From talking to Dd about how so much alcohol arrived she explained if people have snapmaps on they can see where everyone is gathered and some of the more party types show up uninvited.
Thankfully she doesn’t go to many!

myrtleWilson · 15/06/2019 18:42

DD off out to party number 2 here - she's taken one can of cider and seems to be pretty good and not drinking more. Didn't appear that many have over indulged when I picked them up at 11pm - fingers crossed same for tonight.

There are two young men who apparently both like DD, judging by how she talks about them one is definitely more in the running than the other Grin

DD doesn't really cook (I know bad parenting) so this summer we're going to teach her to cook the basics... each week she'll make a meal but one that will serve her well in the future - so a roast dinner and then ideas for left overs, proper slow cooked bolognese, a casserole of sorts, a dhal (although I'm getting a lot of push back on that!) - any other ideas?? She's not keen on risotto, likes paella but can't imagine thats a practical student food..!!. I have loads of cookery books and enjoy reading them page by page but DD wouldn't - however I recently bought Ella Risbridger's cookery book "Midnight Chicken" which is lovely and reads like your big sister is in the kitchen with you helping you along - I'm hoping that may appeal to her.

Iambuffy · 15/06/2019 20:38

Meal very nice. I've eaten far too much though

Oh God prom dress emergency averted!!!!!
I asked her to try her dress on and the damn zip was really tight 😱.
Dd burst into tears saying she was fat (no you are a size 10/12), then said she was due on, has been stress eating and more tears and had just eaten. (Bearing in mind she bought the dress over a year ago when it slightly big for her).
Went on the website and she couldn’t find it..... luckily I did find it and have ordered a bigger size, so then she got upset at the extra cost 🤦🏻‍♀️.
The dress isn’t too bad a price for a prom outfit, and if it is due to other circumstances then we have the smaller one still, and we’ll find somewhere other than eBay to sell it on (Vivian of Holloway tealength dress anyone?????).

gleegeek · 15/06/2019 22:02

Foslady your poor dd! Well done for sorting out another dress...could you send back the smaller size or would that be really naughty??? I must get dd to try hers on or we might be in the same situation!
We spent the afternoon bra shopping. Dd was mortified to be spotted carrying bras by similar age boys - you forget how sensitive they are! Bless her - wr have bought 3 to try with the dress. Fingers crossed one will fit!
She is currently at the party. She nearly didn't go when the one person she knew bailed but was brave and decided to give it a go. I've been expecting a call to rescue her but she is still thereSmile I got a text saying loads of people were drunk and she was worried they'd be sick(she's got emetophobia) It's a steep learning curve😂

Rugbylife · 15/06/2019 22:57

Ds out at a party tonight, his deadline is 11pm, have had text to say on way, took a few cans of lager, hope he’s been sensible.

gleegeek · 15/06/2019 23:39

Dd is back having had a lovely time Smile Girls were dressed up, boys weren't. Drink was WKD, kopperberg and bucks fizz, closely monitored by the parents. People were drunk but not hammered. All in all a good first experience. Phew!
Rugby hope your ds has had a good night too!

Oh glad the prom dresses are coming together .
No prom or parties for us .

Ds did go out with his friends yesterday.
I got some cash out to make sure he had enough .
He then starts looking in the fridge ,to see what he can take to the PICNIC !!

Flips sake ...i had been shopping the day before and would have got him stuff if he asked !
Well he went of with a packet of sausage rolls and so.e baby belles horrendous cheese things ! Oh and a big carton of apple juice !!

At 9.45 pm i texted him to see what time he would be home .....

He texted me back to say

"I am in bed " !!

He said he got in at 8.30 but was shattered because they walked the whole circuit of Richmond Park (+ extra at the beginning at they got off at the wrong train station !!)

There is my mummy fail !
I was watching saturday night t.v and did not hear him come in .
Told him i was cross he did not put his head round the door !!

bizzey · 16/06/2019 10:20

Sorry should say...saturday night t.v is always in my bed ...to be left alone with my packet of revels !!

behindlocknumbernine · 16/06/2019 11:37

Dd had a great time at the party last night. Party was hosted by a friend of dd's who goes to a different secondary school. Dd met a lot of this girl's friends who are hoping to go to the same sixth form college dd is hoping to attend. So she was happy!
She went with a can of cider, came home without it and slightly giggly. She confessed to having drunk her cider and a bottle of wkd.

Her plans for today is to bake a strawberry flan for father's day and to revise for her German writing exam tomorrow.

So close to the end of exams Grin

SilentSister · 16/06/2019 12:11

So quiet weekend - But wow - I can now see DD's bedroom carpet. She has sorted and recycled all her notes. Decided that she will not re-take anything regardless of grades (maths aside), and took great glee in tossing all her German notes in particular Grin. I can now hoover for the first time since Half Term, and DD is busily removing all the sticky patches from her mirror wardrobes.

Thanks for all the supportive messages about lack of parties. I was/am still feeling for DD, she seems to be the only one not going to an after prom event. The issue is that she is friends with everyone, but doesn't belong to any of the core groups..... DD1 was the same actually, and in fact, didn't really find a "tribe" until she got to Uni, and she has had an amazing time ever since, so I shouldn't really be too worried, but I just don't want DD2 to get upset when the Instagram posts start hitting.

Anyway, she looks amazing in her dress, just got it steamed by the lady we bought it from, and it fits beautifully. Now we have just got to hope for some nicer weather.

Iambuffy · 16/06/2019 13:28

Ds1 is refusing to get rid of his notes til results day.

This infuriates me, obv.

So it all got boxed up yesterday and its in the loft.

I'm hoping for a relaxing few weeks now.

Hahahahaha

So much for a few cans of lager, he swapped some for cider so mixed his drinks and I think had more than he took. He came in barely able to stand, saying I’m not gonna lie I’ve had a bit to drink! How he thought I might not notice is beyond me😂 Helped him to bed with faithful sick bowl and towels over the carpet, left both our bedroom doors open, I barely slept all night in case he was ill. Glad to report no adverse effects this morning and he’s just got a McDonald’s delivered 😂

Iambuffy · 16/06/2019 15:13

Glad no vomit appeared overnight 😁

Ds1 is going to play laser quest with his friends on Tuesday afternoon and then again the week after with his whole tutor group 😁

So weird this morning. I nust said "so what are you revising today?" 🙄😁

We have some plans for the cinema too over the next few weeks...

OP posts:
behindlocknumbernine · 16/06/2019 15:26

Dd has taken a break from revising to chuck all her notes in the recycling. All except for what she needs for German tomorrow.
Recycling bin is overflowing now Grin

steppemum · 16/06/2019 15:53

ds cleared all his books out, but they have gone in the loft! (until results day) - choice!

He has also dismantled his desk for the summer!

He has reluctantly agreed to go shopping on Monday for a suit for prom. We have 10 days Hmm

steppemum · 16/06/2019 15:54

that should say - HIS choice

behindlocknumbernine · 16/06/2019 17:23

I think putting stuff in the loft may be a safer option...

Prom outfit sorted, but no dresses here so it was easy, she's wearing smart black trousers, her beloved converse hi tops, a black floral shirt from a vintage shop and a borrowed purple wool blazer.
When she wears the outfit and puts her glasses on she bears an uncanny resemblance to Sue Perkins!! (same hairstyle too).
