Dear all,
We are waiting for an offer (hopefully 1st preference) for DS secondary school on March 1st. Just wondering what time the offer email comes? We have applied through Croydon council.

It’s a couple since I went through the process... if I remember correctly, I didn’t get the email until 6/7pm that evening

OddBoots · 18/02/2019 09:22

It can vary hugely, prepare yourself for it being by midnight that night then you won't be disappointed if yours is later in the day.

4strings · 18/02/2019 10:20

I’m thinking about little else atm! We are very unlikely to get our first choice (over subscribed by hundreds each year and on the border of the catchment) and dd doesn’t want to go to the nearby school. At all. Hates everything about and has already informed me she will refuse to wear the uniform. I am dreading the next few months. Hoping to goodness she gets over that. Nothing I’ve said so far has made any difference.

Her closest friends are all going elsewhere (fee paying independents. We are in an affluent area with the snobby attitudes toward the local secondary abounding) and dd wants to “get away from the idiots that are left”.

Croydon is part of the Pan-London admissions scheme, which should mean you get your email at 5.00pm on 1st March (aka The Longest Day).

Motheroftw0 · 18/02/2019 10:30

Oh thanks for your response, does it come during the day too or only in the evening. Just asking from when should I be refreshing my inbox!

Thanks @Zinnia, it would definitely be the longest day!!! But at least I know now, need to find a way to keep me occupied till 5! I really didn't want to find out along with DS but no option I guess

The e mails for the pan-London system go at 5pm.

But I logged in to my online application earlier and our offer was there.

It was a few years ago, though.

BrimfulOfChocolate · 19/02/2019 18:42

5pm the portal goes live for the pan-London (and Surrey) scheme. If you log in you will get the details. The emails take hours to all be sent - it will come in the evening or the small hours, much better to log in than wait!

Motheroftw0 · 19/02/2019 23:59

Great thanks, 5 pm it is then!!!!

reluctantbrit · 20/02/2019 12:04

Email came around 7pm but we could log in and see results from 4.30pm.

meditrina · 20/02/2019 12:28

The pan-London system sends out the emails in batches starting at 5pm, so you should get it at some point in the evening.

You do not have to wait for the email. You can log on to the website any time after 1700 to see your allocation online.

Yes. It's deliberately timed like that. So that people cannot hit the phones and rant immediately. The enforced wait until the next morning means that at least some people will, have calmed down, and maybe read up on relevant advice, thus making any phone calls more focussed and temperate

(Also because it's better to send out high volumes of emails at a time when the systems are otherwise quiet)

Zinnia · 20/02/2019 16:34

This year of course with the extra fun of 1st March being a Friday, so we have the whole weekend in which to worry about the waiting list cool off (not that I would be harassing the poor officers at our LEA anyway, they'll have enough to deal with as it is).

There seems to be a third way to find out, don't know if this is just my LA or all the pan-London authorities, but you can download the ParentComms app and apparently they'll send you an alert? I've disabled notifications for it as don't want to get the news that way, but curious to know when the alert would come through and if it would be quicker than the email. The app itself is handy for those times when you have a panic attack and need to check you did actually submit the application properly, though that may be just me of course! Grin

reluctantbrit · 20/02/2019 18:07

I tried the app and either it was crap or I did something wrong. I think the website is the best option.

Motheroftw0 · 20/02/2019 21:30

I am getting super nervous as the day goes!!! The last year has been extremely hectic for DS and our entire family with classes, prep, homework, mock tests etc etc. And to think that all the efforts are down to just one result it is nerve wrecking! Grammar schools are our only option for selective schools as cannot afford independent schools. I wish the results were this Friday!!!!

How is everyone feeling? I am crazy nervous!!!

OP posts:
Hamsternauts · 28/02/2019 18:32

Have you had it yet?. We could see from 5pm on the portal last year for pan London

Motheroftw0 · 28/02/2019 19:31

5 pm tomorrow right?

OP posts:
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/02/2019 19:35

We get ours quite early 8am ish.

Hamsternauts · 28/02/2019 19:51

Oops sorry. Yes 5 pm tomorrow.

Motheroftw0 · 28/02/2019 20:38

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat
Morning itself, is your council associated with Pan London?

OP posts:
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/02/2019 20:41

What’s pan London? (Obviously I know what London is! What’s the pan bit?)

imip · 28/02/2019 20:44

Pan London here last year and I’m sure I got it after 3. I’m pretty sure I logged on to find out.

AnotherNewt · 28/02/2019 21:44

pan- as in the prefix meaning 'all'

It refers to the unified system used by every single London borough, plus Surrey. That's a lot of families having to bite their nails until 5pm (ish - sometimes it's live on the website a bit before, probably because they don't want it to be late)

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/02/2019 21:49

Ah ok, no I’m RBWM.

Motheroftw0 · 28/02/2019 23:06

Oh ok ours is pan london...
So will be on the website from 3!!!!!
