A new thread to avoid the doomsday scenario of running out of posts as envelopes are opened on Friday, waiting lists move (or don’t) and e-mails are opened on 1 March.

OP posts:
1ndig0 · 05/03/2019 07:15

Did anyone hear about any wl movement at G&L, out of interest? Their deadline is 12 today and their last offer holders’ tour was at 8.30 yesterday morning.

Hipscitch · 05/03/2019 07:26

Yes, G&L definitely moved yesterday.

ancientgeordiegirl · 05/03/2019 07:46

@1ndig0 and @Hipscitch I find that really interesting as this is the latest email received from the Registrar at 17.14 last night. It was Titled “No movement yet on W/L”

“Dear Parents

Despite my best efforts I still have not received answers to all our offers, I will be in touch again in the morning, I am so sorry not to give you more definite news, I have discussed the situation with Dr Ramsey and we will contact you tomorrow morning.

Kind regards.

Mrs Felicity Lundberg
Godolphin and Latymer”

@Hipscitch that’s very interesting re. G&L. Was it your DD you who was offered or second hand info?

@ancient and any other g&l WL hopefuls - if the waitlist has definitely started to move then it looks like unless you get the call/email we are further down the list hence the generic email updates? Hmm

1ndig0 · 05/03/2019 08:06

At our school there were 4 G&L offers and one wl. The head has been in touch and was also assured the wl has not moved at all as of yesterday (according to the lady at drop off this morning).
I’m not sure they can send an email that’s a lie because what if they are simultaneously offering to someone you know?

Toomuchpressure169 · 05/03/2019 08:21

@1ndig0 exactly what I thought?

Bool · 05/03/2019 08:33

It sounds from that email that G&L may move this afternoon

Toomuchpressure169 · 05/03/2019 09:13

Had this from g&l this morning:
“There has been a little movement overnight on our waiting list but not enough to make an offer at this stage. We are doing our best to clarify our outstanding offers and I will be in touch later this morning.”

Guess we are further down the list!

Bool · 05/03/2019 09:20

They are keeping you warm!

1ndig0 · 05/03/2019 09:27

Toomuch - I think it’s a good sign that they’re keeping you in the loop with regular updates. It sounds like they would very much like to offer you a place, but they gave a deadline to others which they have to honour.
Fingers crossed for you!!
If they’re anything like SPGS, they only have about 10 on the WL.

littlemisslucky2 · 05/03/2019 09:28

Too much pressure - sounds hopeful!

Greenleave · 05/03/2019 09:29

Good luck for the last minute decision everyone!

Just wanted to say we were very impressed with Mrs Lundberg and G&L admission team. They were very accommodating when my daughter needed to leave early on her exam date for the KGS scholarship interviews. Replied with the very kind best wishes when we informed with “no thanks” email(not all schools did).

1ndig0 · 05/03/2019 09:40

PHS sent a mini-questionnaire to anyone who turned the place down, asking which school you had chosen and why. Also what factors were most important to you and how could they improve the open day. They asked something like, “Describe our school in 3 words,” and, “Describe the school you have chosen in 3 words.” I guess they use this info for their algorithm to work out how many places to offer next year.

KaliforniaDreamz · 05/03/2019 09:47

PHS should reconsider rolling out Bonnie Langford type kids on the open day.
That might help.

ananas2019 · 05/03/2019 10:16

KaliforniaDreamz Spot on he,he...

Heresmynewname · 05/03/2019 10:21

@Toomuchpressure169, I agree with @1ndig0 that being kept in the loop means they very much want to offer your daughter a place. Here's to hoping you get good news very soon!

whycantwegoonasthree · 05/03/2019 11:39

Well, we've dropped the forms at KGS and declined PHS so the deed is done. I feel increasingly comfortable about it all. Phew.

whycantwegoonasthree · 05/03/2019 11:40

My heart goes out to all those still deliberating, waiting... its so exhausting. x

Toomuchpressure169 · 05/03/2019 11:54

Just out of meeting and received this from G&L
“G&L Waiting List - I am very sorry to let you know that we will not be making any further wait list offers. Thank you for your patience and best wishes to blah blah and wish her every luck in her new school”.
There is some sense of relief that at least I know! Off we go to Putney High to join her sister and are genuinely chuffed to have a place. At least I’m down to two different schools rather than 3 Grin
I haven’t seen any other posts that have confirmed a WL place at g&l but that’s not to say they aren’t necessarily MN users!

Good luck everyone still waiting..waiting. I agree - it’s exhausting.

Bool · 05/03/2019 12:09

@whycantwegoonasthree - will see you there at the parents evening!!! See if we recognise each other from school!

1ndig0 · 05/03/2019 12:10

Sorry to hear that Toomuch, but also, congrats on PHS!! This whole process is a numbers game and your DD has done very well indeed. The G&L registrar told me over 950 sat that entrance exam for just over 100 places and it wouldn’t surprise me if the numbers were similar for PHS - so that’s a lot of girls who wouid have got a flat “no” last month, many of whom would no doubt have coped just fine at the school.

What a process though! It’s only once you have the forms in and are settled on where you’re going, that normal life resumes and you realise the weight of uncertainty is lifted.

Bool · 05/03/2019 12:10

@toomuchpressure169 agree it is exhausting. I dropped my forms yesterday and then started to get a cold. I actually thought it may be related! Like when you finally relax from work and go on hols

Bool · 05/03/2019 12:11

KGS was 800 for 100 places. Is mad odds isn’t it. They have all done soooo well

whycantwegoonasthree · 05/03/2019 12:48

PHS was apparently 600 or so for 65 places.

chilledparent27 · 05/03/2019 13:24

don't forget there is a large overlap between children applying to PHS/LU/G&L/SPGS, so there will be 400-500 places for children at the top schools or so. That's not to say it is easy by any means, but the odds aren't exactly 1:10 as figures above suggest. At our DC's prep only about a third of PHS offers tend to be taken up and maybe half of G&L offers (mainly by those accepting spgs).
