As the Tiffin results day looms, a second 2019 SW London grammars and indies thread

A new thread to avoid the doomsday scenario of running out of posts as envelopes are opened on Friday, waiting lists move (or don’t) and e-mails are opened on 1 March.

Long-time lurker here. The post has just been in and DD has offers from the three schools we were waiting to hear from (one of which is her firm favourite). I'd almost lost hope after a waitlist at WHS, but it just goes to show that there's little rhyme and less reason in the 11+. I'm so glad this nightmare is over. Good luck to all those still waiting for envelopes, may they be big and fat.
Bool, one of the letters we got (LU) said specifically that the admissions office is closed over the half term so others may be closed, too, although not those of schools doing exploding offers.

Three offers here too! Now the deliberation begins, hope everyone has the news that they are hoping for or can hold their nerve. These waiting lists WILL move!

We've done well so far too and the only remaining ones are less competitive so I think we've got a full set.

Feel so relieved especially about getting the sibling's school. What a horrible process though.

Ah - I've just started another thread but possibly just should have added here! DD has offers at Sutton high, St Johns, Putney High and KGS (This morning!!) ... She worked hard and we're chuffed to bits for her.

We've narrowed it down to the last two: Putney and KGS but are super torn. Thoughts anyone?

Also WTF is an exploding offer?

@TheExtra that’s amazing. Still don’t have my post yet but good to hear it’s not exploding this year at KGS - last year it was.

@why an exploding offer is one which when they have filled their places on a first come first served basis (before the deadline) the people who haven’t responded, offers explode - ie don’t exist anymore. Hurumph that was difficult to explain!

OK - phew - so it would say if it was, which it doesn't so ok. That just sent my pulse rate through the roof - which is actually helpful because I realised how gutted I'd be if she missed out on KGS... Maybe that tells me where my heart lies in our decision...

@why they will make it clear in the letter so if it is not in there then it is not exploding. Maybe they learnt their lesson....it’s really not fair to do that to us. Our nerves are already frazzled. That’s a great test by the way - which offer would you be sadder to lose?

And best of luck, hold your nerve, to those still waiting and on wait lists. (Especially to @FlumePlume !)
After WHS waitlist which made us all v nervous, we got 2 offers today.
Now our problem is DD, DH and I don't agree on where.
Round the schools once more I fear.

Post just arrived, it’s a yes from SPGS!!!

The relief is incredible - I hadn’t allowed myself to hope, after the WHS waitlist. Dd will be so, so pleased.

Sorry, in my over-excitement I forgot to say congrats to all those with offers today! Especially TheExtra, I know that you’d really been hoping for KGS.

On the exploding offers, I saw the wording about them in (last year’s) application booklet, buried in the small print. So I think it would be worth checking that, as well as the offer letter, for those with KGS offers.
