Ggirl just wondering if you've heard anything from Monday's sixth from college? or if your DS is reconciled to the alternative college now?

Stickerrocks · 30/08/2018 13:35

The bus for one local college started running again this morning for the new year 13s. Meanwhile, a week ago we were still digesting results.

It’s a very quick turn around for those changing college/courses in some cases. I thought a level results to uni was short but this is very quick for some.

Ggirl27 · 30/08/2018 14:48

@whistl How strange you should post at almost the same time as I have had a response. I had a phone call from the Vice Principal saying after reviewing DSs grades they would like to offer him a place after all. He can do the A Level and BTEC he had originally wanted all along. We have to go back tomorrow for enrolment - my DS is strangely muted as he has experienced so many emotions over the last week I'm not sure he knows which way is up. I am pleased but I wish I hadn't have had to fight so hard and I'm not sure I'll actually believe it until I walk out of there tomorrow with signed paperwork!

LimitIsUp · 30/08/2018 15:12

It has obviously been an emotional rollercoaster Ggirl - but what great news! (when its sunk in)

whistl · 30/08/2018 15:15

Congratulations to your DS, Ggirl! I am so pleased for both of you.

He has been put through the mill this last week, hasn't he, but I hope he can start to feel better now. If I were you, i'd present it as the college made a mistake, and when you emailed they realised their mistake (rather than letting him think that they graciously took pity on him)

whistl · 30/08/2018 15:16

PS Just in case you were wondering: it was just lucky timing that i posted - I have no inside info!

LooseAtTheSeams · 30/08/2018 15:23

Great news Ggirl - not surprised the poor lad is a bit bewildered but I think you're right to explain they realised they made a mistake.

TheThirdOfHerName · 30/08/2018 15:25

Really pleased for him Ggirl27

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 30/08/2018 15:27

Really pleased for you both Ggirl

Bless him

Dd enrolled at college and all the staff kept congratulating her on her results and she is still not chuffed with them....she says they dont seem very good

I think most of them are still a bit shell shocked

elkiedee · 30/08/2018 15:31

Ggirl, Perhaps they looked at all the information on your DS and decided he was worth offering a place after all that.

The difficult question for him and you - is this still what he really wants or has all the stress of the last week changed his mind?

I'm not surprised he's muted, it all sounds very stressful.

I know my own DS1 gets stresssed sometimes because he worries that he might have a view on what he really wants which his parents or grandfather aren't quite prepared for, and he is anxious that no one gets upset.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 30/08/2018 16:18

Good news, I think, Ggirl though I'd be tempted to go to the other college now and say something rude to the first college.

Stickerrocks · 30/08/2018 17:00

Excellent news ggirl. Now he has a genuine choice again, which is all everyone wants for their DC. Luckily neither college has started yet. I remember years ago that my brother got a place to read law through clearing and his original choice came back to him 4 weeks later to offer him his original place. He had already moved into halls so he stayed there.

cubscout · 30/08/2018 17:19

Thats great news Ggirl. I'm not surprised he is a bit muted - I agree, I think it has been a really tough week for all and a lot of growing up and thinking about the future has gone on. Maybe let the news settle over the weekend and see how he's feeling on Sunday.

Ggirl27 · 30/08/2018 17:21

Thanks all! He says he won't believe it until he has actually been tomorrow and seen them. They are not admitting any error on their part but agree that the additional info I gave them enables him to enrol. I'm just praying he's made the right decision now. Even I don't know what the best choice is! I didn't expect it to be so difficult. And @EllenJanesthickerknickers that was my first instinct too but his choices will be further limited if he hated College B although I do wish I could tell them to shove it! This has been the worst process ever.

I am looking forward to ringing his old school on Monday and giving them a rocket. No guidance on this process, the headteacher rocked up for her TV interview at 5:30am on results day and went home at 7am - she didn't stay to support the rest of Year 11 at 10am, results given out by SEN staff, no staff to counsel students about their results, no exam officer on the day, after guessing the email address of the exam officer correctly I got a reply on Tuesday but was told there'll be no more contact from her until 3rd September. Thank God my DS is out of that school. It's been a complete and utter sh!t show...

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 30/08/2018 17:28

I'm glad he's got a real choice now, Ggirl, and hopefully either college will suit him. Flowers At least his old school can legitimately shove it up their arse!

LARLARLAND · 30/08/2018 17:48

Fantastic news ggirl. I am certain you will be feeling much different in two years time when he’s completed his time at college. Best of luck.

Cherryburn · 30/08/2018 18:05

That’s great Ggirl. Enjoy the feedback call to school!

Oratory1 · 30/08/2018 18:11

Great news, I know you shouldnt have had to but sounds like youve done an amazing job. Good luck tomorrow !

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 30/08/2018 19:18

Great news ggirl Flowers

Hope you can relax now.

sandybayley · 30/08/2018 20:17

So pleased to hear that it's worked out for your DS @Ggirl27. Was results day only a week ago? It feels like an age.

DS1 is back at school tomorrow, though why on earth they go back on a Friday I have no idea. He has rugby training on Saturday and a club cricket match on Sunday - the holidays are definitely over.

For the first time this year I've resisted the stationery shop. We have so much if it - 6 calculators!

HesMyLobster · 30/08/2018 20:26

Ah that's fantastic news Ggirl, I'm so relieved for you and your DS. He's lucky to have had you fighting his corner.
Fingers crossed all goes well with registration tomorrow and then you can both finally breathe!

KingscoteStaff · 30/08/2018 20:29

DS also back tomorrow.

He had an email reminding him that photos will be taken tomorrow so he has had a shave and ironed his favourite shirt (to be worn under my super bargain Ebay suit!)

Are other DC planning on taking all notes onto laptops? I have suggested that he takes his pencil case and a pad of paper as well...

whistl · 30/08/2018 20:29

The first one back, sandybayley?!
It's hard to believe that the holidays are over. DS has one more day, then starts at college on Monday

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 30/08/2018 20:33

Dd has another full week yet. It feels too long. Not that she's complaining!

Kingscote we were just discussing that tonight. Dd wants to do it all on the laptop but I don't know how she'd keep up with maths symbols etc. I suggested writing it then typing it up later but that didn't go down well Confused

Would be interested in what others are planning.
