Or extended family with different surnames. Cousins, your mum's brothers etc.

AlexanderHamilton · 29/08/2018 14:02

Dh's best friend (ds's godfather) is a teacher and although he only sees dd about once a year I think he will do it.

Most of the mums at ds's activities have never met dd (though I have obviously talked about her). re: neighbours we are the end house so only have neighbours one side.

It's because its working with children they need to basically say that she is a suitable person and that there is no known reason why she should not be able to work with/be around children.

PeggyIsInTheNarrative · 29/08/2018 14:05

Any old singing, music, dance teachers, directors or guides etc that you have any kind of relationship with? Someone who can say they have known your DD for x years?

Oratory1 · 29/08/2018 14:12

Ooh that's tricky - we would do it as we feel we know each other already :)

Its probably less critical as the school already know her well so I wouldn't worry too much and just ask someone to do it but reassure them that it is for a job where she is well known so effectively 'box ticking'.

AlexanderHamilton · 29/08/2018 14:18

Dh has asked one of her old dance teachers. She hasn't actually been taught by this teacher since she was 11 but we have kept in touch sporadically. She retired/had a career change at the same time as dd left but does the odd workshop and dd has seen here a handful of times over the years.

ReservoirDogs · 29/08/2018 14:51

Cheryburn - RS again - yes re high gtade boundary and yes re time pressure. Unfortunately DS misread the board a d thought is end time was the end time for those that had 25% extra time he realised about half way through and so for 2 x 25 mark questions just bullet pointed his points rather than writing as essays. He reckons if he had 2 minutes more he'd have nailed an A*. After his language oral and science practicals it was his first written one and I remember him being distraught. It did mean he then took a watch for his desk - previously refused- and write down end time on his paper etc!

I have a lawn! My dds planted grass seeds and hey presto! And I picked up a secondhand sandpit for a fiver with a lid for the dog.

Dd feeling much more positive after paracetamol, lunch out and buying half of primark Grin.

She deliberately bought ripped jeans (not allowed at school SF) to stop her changing her mind.

And she's signed up for further maths. She's not sure if she'll stick with it but thought she'd give it a go.

AlexanderHamilton · 29/08/2018 16:50

That’s a fine lawn.

bpisok · 29/08/2018 17:06

@Sostenueto - jealous. I wish my lawn looked like that!!!

Oratory1 · 29/08/2018 17:07

Great news kick, you must be relieved. Teachers are trying to persuade DS to do further maths and we think he would be better off just doing the three and leaving himself more time - but he might do the same - not take it through to exams but attend for a bit and see how it goes. The further maths gcse work really helped his maths - I don't know if its the same as A level.

How did you get grass like that - our is still brown and crunchy !!

Stickerrocks · 29/08/2018 17:15

Our lawn is currently beige with the odd green tuft.

DD enrolled yesterday. Definitely not taking further maths. She also got through the sports trials into a development squad. Most importantly though, she remembered to hand in her photo for her season ticket.

Bought term rail ticket. Its gone up £280 blooming ridiculous!
Thanks all for compliments about grass!

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 29/08/2018 17:26

Sost great lawn! Mine is also still covered in dead patches Sad

Oratory I'm not sure how much help it will be either. Does anyone know how much the syllabus crosses over?

The college said to review three weeks in and make a decision then. I think she likes the idea of it but she will be tired when she first starts so might not have the stamina for it.

Does anyone else's dc need B12 injections every 3 months? Dd isn't due her next one until end of September but is already struggling with tiredness. Thinking of asking if she can have it a bit early?

bpisok · 29/08/2018 17:41

Re FM - it depends on the school/pupil. Some run 'accelerated' maths in YR12 so they get it done in a year (with lots of hard work) and then do FM in Y13. Others treat it as a separate subject so it uses up one of your A Level options.

DDs school does the getting it done in a year of version so you need to be "invited" onto the course. DDs view is No Way Am I Doing That, so politely declined their kind invitation

KingscoteStaff · 29/08/2018 17:51

DS is back on Friday! In August!!!

He is finishing off the pre-reading tasks (disadvantage of staying at same school!) and admiring the free periods on his timetable!

TheThirdOfHerName · 29/08/2018 17:53

At DS2's sixth form 140 students (two thirds of the year group) are taking Maths A-level. 40 of those (2 classes of 20) are taking Further Maths.

He went to the induction day at his back-up choice (it was scheduled before results came out) and there were only two of them in the Further Maths class. Shock

Oratory1 · 29/08/2018 18:06

DS school is more like the latter TheThird which is probably why there is some pressure to do it, though I think she is trying to get a group of maybe 7 or 8 together.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 29/08/2018 18:10

DS3 got his acceptance letter through from sixth form today. He doesn't need to enrol in person, just turn up next week. He's doing 4 this year, that's their policy and FM takes up an option. We've bought some more uniform. It's getting close, as the end of my holiday. Sad

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 29/08/2018 18:16

They had one class of 22 last year doing FM but only 3 applied at his old sixth form, one of which being DS3. We'll see how many in his class next week.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 29/08/2018 18:17

*old school's sixth form

Cherryburn · 29/08/2018 18:20

DS is doing Maths A Level but not interested in doing FM. The majority only do 3 A Levels at his school (4 if doing FM) and I think that’s enough. DD did 4 (3 humanities & Latin) and the workload was very heavy. And that was before A Levels were reformed.

AlevelConfusion · 29/08/2018 18:35

Hello all, been following these threads for a while and popped up on one of the earlier ones but have reared my head again to ask for your advice please Smile

My dd has enrolled at college but they have now told her she can't do 4 Alevels, as previously arranged Sad She was planning on doing Maths, further maths, psychology & Biology but now she can only do 3Sad

So she has signed up for Maths, Fm & psychology. But reading here that Unis treat maths/fm as one, I'm a bit concerned. Is this all unis? Only certain courses? She wants to either do maths or psychology at uni.
Hoping someone can help Thanks

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 29/08/2018 18:37

Maths is most definitely DS3's strong point. He's just lucky he can do 2 A levels in his best subject! They drop one in Y13, so he'll probably end up with maths, FM and either computing or chemistry.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 29/08/2018 18:46

It depends what subject they want to do, Alevel. My DS1 did maths FM and physics and that was fine for engineering, physics, maths, computing degrees etc. I've only heard from some posters on here about them not counting maths and FM as 2 but not in RL.

Check some uni entrance requirements for her preferred degree subject and see what they say.
