I'm up for celebrating all achievements for the DCs on here. Not just the 7s 8s and 9s but the 4s and 5s for those who need them and the 1s for those who worked hard to get there.

TheThirdOfHerName · 20/08/2018 11:27

@chuntersalot
Can I join you in 2020 on the 'aaaaaaaarrggh!!' bench? I'll have one doing A-levels and twins doing GCSEs.

spababe · 20/08/2018 11:28

Totally agree Third - let's celebrate effort

Thanks Oratory for the clarification

HardwickWhite · 20/08/2018 11:29

Nice to see some from the Y13 thread are here too. We've been so focussed on A Level results that poor DD2 has taken a back seat a bit. She's trying to organise friends to do something after results and sixth form enrolment on Thursday, but so far most are too worried that they will be sad not happy with their results. The pressure never ends for them does it.

LooseAtTheSeams · 20/08/2018 11:30

peggy oddly on the app the name change worked! And this time, mmzz tagging didn’t come to my email but it did before, but still appreciate the effort she goes to!
spababe DS also says he really can’t tell how he’s done in RE.

Oratory1 · 20/08/2018 11:30

oooh mini M&S wine in coffee cup for train journey home theres another genius idea. Only I won't be able to look at any coffee drinkers in the same light now & if I see anyone staring at me questioningly I'll be wondering if they've been on MN

goodbyestranger · 20/08/2018 11:39

Holidayshopping 56% was the upper boundary for Add Maths and 17% is allegedly the boundary on one of the Maths higher papers for a 4. I've not a clue about any other boundaries just think nice low ones would be....nice :)

Cblue · 20/08/2018 12:10

Hi all and thanks for the new thread.
Hello to all the new joiners Smile

Rather tired today after our 3am review of every A Level and degree course on the planet (that's what it feels like). The outcome wasn't what I expected though.
Subjects she has been accepted on -Maths,FM, Physics and Computer Science.

The outcome of last night was History, English, Government & Politics and Computer Science. So much for sticking to STEM subjects as @mmmz quite rightly recommended.

She emailed school at 3am requesting a meeting - I think she's making life hard for herself but she seems really relieved. I on the other hand am so tired that I am almost beyond caring.

3 more sleeps and we can forget all about it (and get our lives back).

eaglefly · 20/08/2018 12:12

Great news goodbye. Add maths indeed really terrible so she has done tremendously well to get A.

GettinTrimmer · 20/08/2018 12:12

Third I agree! All effort and results to be celebrated.

eaglefly · 20/08/2018 12:15

Congrats pipi too

brainmelt · 20/08/2018 12:17

People you are amazing, 17 and no doubt we'll need an 18 before Thursday! We're away for the show DS is playing at, co-living with friends and away from it all, so my anxiety levels have reached almost zero and I don't seem to care anymore, and I swear I haven't touched the Wine I think it will hit me big on Wednesday night...

Oratory1 · 20/08/2018 12:20

cblue probably too late for your DD but for those clearly able across the board and finding it hard to select I highly recommend the IB if its available. Very hard work and only for the dedicated and able but a great qualification and DD2 loved it.

brainmelt · 20/08/2018 12:22

btw, everyone who changed username: I have no idea who you used to be... except for the couple of posters who only suffered very very subtle mutations... you know who you are! But do not worry, my problem, my brain.

goodbyestranger · 20/08/2018 12:25

Cheers Oratory and eaglefly. DD said after the Add Maths exam that it confirmed to her that she'd reached her ceiling on maths and was very pleased she hadn't opted for it as an A level - clearly a last hurrah.

Well done to your DD too pipi.

pipilangstrumpf · 20/08/2018 12:26

Thanks Eagle. I still feel that exams where top pupils only manage barely over 50% are too difficult.
Good luck to everyone and yes, effort and results should be celebrated!

pipilangstrumpf · 20/08/2018 12:28

That's a shame, goodbyestranger. Your dd did very well and it's sad that the difficulty of Add Maths put her off A level Maths. I'm sure she would have done very well!

farangatang · 20/08/2018 12:36

Thanks for the new thread, Peggy.

I possibly need to avoid reading over the next few days - despite DD's good strike-rate for predicted grades in IGCSE, the one anomoly has thrown her confidence (and mine) regarding the GCSE results this Thursday. I'm afraid that reading about all the expected 8/9 grades is making me less confident she'll reach hers...

On a positive note, she's getting her braces removed on Thursday Grin so there's going to be at least one good outcome! And if her lowest grade remains a B (6) then that's hopefully enough for her 6th Form place (and A Level subject choices).

hmcAsWas · 20/08/2018 12:45

I am the same brainmelt - I know who mmmz is and also oneteen but I've lost track of the others Confused. I agree that it is sensible to name change regularly - I really should do it

LooseAtTheSeams · 20/08/2018 12:45

Brainmelt much better to be at a music event! Hope it’s all going really well and I don’t think your DS has anything to worry about! Hopefully he’s too distracted at the moment to even think about his results! Smile

kpandthesunshineband2 · 20/08/2018 12:48

Hi - an occasional lurker here. On the day do the teachers know the results beforehand - ie when DS picks envelope up , do the teachers already know?

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 12:51

Thanks for new thread...

Tired bunny here too...trying to get work done early this morning that I should have done last week ...I could definitely do with something stronger than coffee in my cup!

Dropped DD and another girl off at their NCS hub this morning ..their main topic of conversation seems to be arranging a party rather than GCSE's although I did ask DD what time she wanted to be in school on Thursday and she said 9am ...I replied eager beaver and she just said she just wanted her results.

Well done to goodbyestranger and pipi's DC's super news.

goodbyestranger · 20/08/2018 12:52

Yes the teachers do know ahead, for sure.

noblegiraffe · 20/08/2018 12:53

Yes we do. They’ll be electronically on the school system and there’ll probably also be a print-out list with marks on for checking who is close to grade boundaries.

goodbyestranger · 20/08/2018 12:55

Thanks Oneteen.

farangatang your DD's odd result will have a lot of people wobbled, not just her, you and me! Off the wall results don't inspire confidence in any direction.
