daisy, we live rurally so I'll have to drive him to school to get the results. From past experience, I have urged him not to open the envelope in the school hall but come back to the car and open the results in privacy. If we then need to go back in to speak to teachers, we will.

GettinTrimmer · 20/08/2018 09:54

chunters maybe a sip from a hipflask for me!

chuntersalot · 20/08/2018 09:59

Oh and I’m already starting to get anxious for this time in 2 years. DTs A Levels and DC3 GCSEs. That’s going to be so much harder than this year for me.

hmcAsWas · 20/08/2018 10:21

Spababe we are exactly the same (live rurally and must drive) and will be doing exactly the same (open envelope in car) - on dd's insistence actually.

Dd has specified her post GCSE celebration - she wants to get another piercing - probably helix left ear, and I have to watch the first Harry Potter movie with her with a big bowl of popcorn. She's bought into that we are celebrating no matter what but seems to be hedging her bets and keeping it low key

Do we think this new thread will last until Thursday morning? I'm guessing it won't - I'm calling thread full by midnight Wednesday

hmcAsWas · 20/08/2018 10:23

Same scenario here Chunters - I will have one awaiting A levels and one awaiting GCSEs in 2020. I'm considering this a warm up Grin

goodbyestranger · 20/08/2018 10:35

I haven't said hello to Sost. Hello :) - hope things are going in the right direction and you've had some time in your lovely garden.

DD4 got her Add Maths in the post first thing this morning and if it's any comfort Korma she said the exam was just awful (as in awful awful), but still got an A (boundary was indeed 56% as someone else said). I'm not sure she thought it was the worst exam of the lot though - I think a couple of others fall into that frame.

LooseAtTheSeams · 20/08/2018 10:42

goodbyestranger that’s brilliant! Well done to her! Star I get the impression Add Maths was just awful for everyone.
DS laughs slightly hysterically at the mention of chemistry so I am hoping the grade boundaries are very low!

Oratory1 · 20/08/2018 10:45

was hedging my bets on planning a celebration not wanting to tempt fate but I actually like your approach HMC, celebrating no matter what but keeping it low key. We should mark the day especially as he just wants to know now.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 20/08/2018 10:46

Tags don't work for me either. Weirdly Peggy's posts are highlighted even with a name change?

DS3 is outwardly completely chilled. I'm trying to keep my obsession on the thread so not to keep reminding him. We have my brother and SIL visiting today so that'll be a good distraction. Must wake up DS2 who is positively nocturnal.

He's going to pick his results sheet up on his own while I wait outside. Note results sheet. No hiding it in an envelope. Hopefully he'll come out quickly to put me out if my misery.

I'm sort of expecting 6s as a minimum but history and English might drop below that. And Chinese? Who knows. A B would be nice.

hmcAsWas · 20/08/2018 10:47

Excellent - well done to your dd goodbye

Loose - dd says she doesn't know how she has done in her exams and can't call it either way as she is not sure what the examiner wants - but she thinks they will be in the 4/5-7 range. - ....except for Chemistry where she is expecting to fail. Meh

pipilangstrumpf · 20/08/2018 10:48

My dd also found Add Maths very difficult and missed out quite a few questions. She still managed to get an A (found out last Thursday) because the grade boundaries were lowered to take account of the difficulty. I think you need 56% for an A (which to me means that the exam was too hard)!

hmcAsWas · 20/08/2018 10:49

I'm sure our dc's will have something to celebrate oratory. They might not get a brace of stellar grades but they should have a number of solid passes at the very least Smile

hmcAsWas · 20/08/2018 10:50

Well done to your dd too pipilangstrumpf.

TerfTerf2 · 20/08/2018 10:51

eagle I have several of those simple £1 cups from Starbucks. The Opening that you drink through is perfect size for a (reusable) straw so you can put iced coffee or gin in it too Grin
I often throw one in my bag so I can pour a drink in later afternoon if im out - especially good for mini wines on the train!

TerfTerf2 · 20/08/2018 10:56

Yikes I sound like an alcoholic Blush

goodbyestranger · 20/08/2018 10:57

Thanks both - 56% as the boundary for a 9 across all subjects and 17% for a 4 could ease things a bit....

pipilangstrumpf · 20/08/2018 11:00

Thanks - fingers crossed for everyone on Thursday!

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 11:14

Ooops. Ignore stray thread 18.

spababe · 20/08/2018 11:17

Did anyone else's DC say that RE was tricky? My DS has suddenly mentioned this!

Oratory1 · 20/08/2018 11:19

Yes HMC hopefully we will be celebrating a range of 4s to 7s (most of his he can't call within that range) and that's not a bad picture for someone who couldn't read until year three and was on level 3/4 at SATS - so yes we will plan the celebration now, thank you for the perspective !! :):)

:) too goodbye - and well done t your DD as well.

LooseAtTheSeams · 20/08/2018 11:19

Pipi Excellent and another Star. Don’t forget Add Maths is Level 3 so much harder than GCSE but I suppose the genius mathematicians out there can do it! (DS isn’t regretting not doing it!)

Holidayshopping · 20/08/2018 11:21

Thanks both - 56% as the boundary for a 9 across all subjects and 17% for a 4 could ease things a bit....

Is that the case for everything or just for additional maths? Is that the same as further maths?

Do parents usually go with their children to the school to get their results or not??

TheThirdOfHerName · 20/08/2018 11:21

Thank you for the new thread and the tag.

I'm still helping DS1 with the admin he needs to do before starting university but he is going to Reading on Wednesday morning and then I'll need to find something else to distract me from the wait.

Oratory1 · 20/08/2018 11:21

spababe - DS said wording of questions meant he didn't really know what they were after. So not difficult in terms of content they were asking for he just didn't know if he gave the type of answers they were looking for - another one that could go either way for him.

PeggySchuylar · 20/08/2018 11:23

Sticker I'm sure we'll need thread 18 any day now so it's good that it's ready.

It will save some poor poster from starting a thread with wrong title, wrong username. Was feeling anxious anyway. Now a few of you know more about me than I intended. You are lovely but aware lots of lurkers. Lurkers, I'm sure you are lovely too.

I'm going to name change in a bit to have single username and only post what I'm happy for anyone to see. WinkShockConfused
