No offence meant teen but had to smile at successful selective school putting all a and a stars on the example sheet !! Not ramping up the pressure much 😂😂

Cblue · 20/08/2018 14:58

Hahaha - didn't notice all the A's and A stars

I must say I was expecting a sheet for each board with a grade and a mark. If the results weren't as hoped for I was then expecting to look the grade boundaries up and make a decision about remarks....calculator at the ready!!!

It would be great if it was all on an info sheet. Feel very sorry for the staff on Wednesday- must be hell.

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 15:01

Oratory - There was actually one token C and one token B later on the sheet (although I think its a fairly standard pack they send out with a few tweaks of dates/costs etc to parents) but Yes a more balanced sheet of typical results would have been better...

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 15:04

DD's school will actually put in the envelope a note of whether they consider a review necessary- so they do all the hard work for you ...so yes they must work really hard on Wednesday...and they open at 9am on results day.

cubscout · 20/08/2018 15:05

Quick check in will read fully when home from work!

KingscoteStaff · 20/08/2018 15:13

Super new thread!

eaglefly DS has just received his CIE History composite marks and he is 2 marks off the level he was hoping for, so he is definitely asking for a remark. He hopes he’s far enough away from the lower boundary to avoid the horror of a remark downwards...

tararabumdeay · 20/08/2018 15:21

AQA Eng Lang post results service are on their website.

Approx £40 per script review
£10 per clerical review
£ 12 per copy of script
These figures are approx and our centre is only adding a couple of quid for admin.

I got my scripts back for posterity - then lost 'em. I know they're in the house somewhere.

I think Edexcel/Pearson allow free access online for the teachers but student/parent signed consent is still needed.

nicky2512 · 20/08/2018 15:23

Hi - I was just wondering where people find out what the grade boundaries are? DD Is Northern Ireland board though so may be different. Thanks.

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 15:31

kingscote That sounds very encouraging was it that final paper that was scored on the lower side ?

tararabumdeay · 20/08/2018 15:31

A review at the top level of a grade boundary is unlikely to go down a grade especially in the mid range of 3 - 5.

Most are reinstated at the awarded grade. The biggest discrepancy I've seen is 12 marks up and 8 marks down. The up was a grade up the down remained the same. These, however, are mid or borderline and not as rarefied as the top 7,8 9.

The stats for reviews, not called remarks these days, for each board are available online.

brainmelt · 20/08/2018 15:31

kingscote good luck with remark!
loose thanks going well and good audience reviews so far! Re Thursday I am sure you can afford to be cool too...Wink

can someone please confirm...this is my only source of worry... someone very knowledgeable told me a few days ago that for non examined work if moderation finds school was too generous with one pupil they downgrade everyone from that school regardless of individual cases Confused

pipilangstrumpf · 20/08/2018 15:35

Most are reinstated at the awarded grade.

Does that mean that most exam papers sent for remarking do not result in a different grade?

spababe · 20/08/2018 15:35

Grade boundaries should be published online on the morning of the exams on the exam boards web sites.

nicky2512 · 20/08/2018 15:37

spababe -
Thank you. Jut starting to worry a bit. DD still quite cool about it all!

spababe · 20/08/2018 15:37

sorry I meant exam results

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 15:37

Brainmelt - my understanding is that there would need to be more than one generous grade and they would moderate more work before taking an overall downgrade of that cohort.

spababe · 20/08/2018 15:38

So long as they can progress to the next step and do the subjects they want, it's not that important if they get a 4 or a 9 in some subjects

HesMyLobster · 20/08/2018 15:39

Hi all, love the new thread title!
(FYI mine will most definitely not be coffee! Grin)
DD's anxiety about results seems to be manifesting as total indecision about her plans for Thursday!
Over the past week she's been back and forth about 400 times! One minute she decides she's meeting friends for breakfast then walking to school with them. The next minute she wants me to drive her and wait in the car.
Then plans for afterwards vary from hosting a party for half the cohort, going out for dinner with her close group of friends, having family over for dinner/bbq, or holing up in the house just with me, take away and Harry Potter films.
I keep telling her we can play the whole day by ear and go with the flow depending on how she's feeling, but she's naturally a planner so likes to decide in advance. She just can't make a flipping decision!
Added to that my own anxiety dreams (I had a brief respite after DD1's Alevel results but now they've started again) and I think it's going to be a looooong few days! Grin

Congrats on the add maths grades btw - fabulous results!

KingscoteStaff · 20/08/2018 15:39

For CIE, it is my understanding that any moderated grade can't be reviewed (remarked) as they have already been marked in school, moderated in school and moderated again by the board. If there were discrepancies, this would be the point (ie over a month ago) that all the candidates' marks might be adjusted.

Not sure if this applies to other boards.

Oratory1 · 20/08/2018 15:40

Sorry teen didn't spot that !

KingscoteStaff · 20/08/2018 15:40

That was for brainmelt...

brainmelt · 20/08/2018 15:46

Thanks for answers x

HesMyLobster · 20/08/2018 15:52

Brainmelt That did happen to DD1's cohort for their drama practical exam 2 years ago. DD's practical unit grade pre-moderation was A* (teacher told us at parents evening) and it went down to a B post -moderation (and her piece wasn't one of the externally moderated ones)
It felt extremely unfair at the time, especially because she scored 100% in the written exam but still came out with a low A overall.
I'm not sure how it works for other subjects though.

hmcAsWas · 20/08/2018 16:18

I worry about that moderation effect too

In fact I worry about everything at the moment

ReservoirDogs · 20/08/2018 16:29

Yes a local school (not DS's) has overmarked English coursework a couple of years backband the whole cohort went down 2 grades. Lots of noise in press locally. They didn't do any coursework english going forward.
