Back at home at last And catching up on the all posts.have seen a few posts on twitter and tsr and here and now am so confused - no idea what is real and what is fake. I think there is a edexcel igcse legacy grading one doing true rounds - the sciences will be applicable to us. Am going to see if I can find that one.

I did ask DD if she wants to get up at 6 to see the results and she said no. Hmm

noblegiraffe · 22/08/2018 21:00

Should have said they might have equal spacing because grade boundaries tend to be fairly equally spaced, but they are not being set for maths and English according to the same rules as the other exams as this is the third run through for them!

Comparable outcomes means a student with a similar KS2 profile who got a 4 last year should on average get a 4 this year (and so on). A student shouldn’t be disadvantaged by being in the first sitting.

Sos yes they did.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 21:01

Grade boundaries are just a distraction for me! Grin The doggy distraction looks cute.

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 21:01

callitwhstyouwill love the photo!
Well signing off till tomorrow. Good luck to everyone of our stars on this thread and hope everyone gets what they want. Thoughts and prayers and fingers crossed for all you lovely people!

mmmz · 22/08/2018 21:05

DM sort of on the mend, but not really. The first diagnosis has now been dismissed and now they don't know. She's still in hospital though.

DS is a bit grumpy if anything to do with exams are mentioned, so we don't.

I'm not sure why but I'm exhausted! Is anyone else feeling this way? I imagined not sleeping tonight, but now I'm thinking I may well crash out before 10!

southnownorth · 22/08/2018 21:06

I am lurker on this thread.

Good luck all, I hope everyone gets what they need.

DD is quite anxious at the moment.

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 21:08

It may be the third sitting but there's an awful lot of difference to sitting 5 new papers to 28! Just saying like and in my mind its a huge disadvantage which I hope whoever sets the grade boundaries remembers that! Sorry but this cohort has not had much sympathy dolled out to it and its not meant as a personal remark just a moan about the exam systemFlowers

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 21:09

Sorry things are no clearer with your DM, mmmz.

Goodnight sost. See you on the other side.

Good luck everyone. 🍀

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 21:13

Zoflorabore · 22/08/2018 21:13

Hi all I'm late to these threads as ds has only done one GCSE this year ( English literature ) as he was in year 10.

Very strange way of doing things at his school. There are 9 sets, sets 1 and 2 haven't sat the exam this year, no doubt to boost the scores next year maybe?
Everyone else has sat it whilst in year 10.

My ds has ASD and is in set 3/4 for core subjects but targeted 8's in his option subjects ( history/art/drama and photography) is average at science, brilliant at maths and struggles with English.

He revised so hard and remembered lots of key quotes and knew his poems inside out upside down. His papers were Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol and Blood Brothers aswell as poetry which he ran out of time on...

Nerves are bloody gone, mine and his.
Any ideas what the score needed for a grade 4 is? As long as he gets a 4 he is happy but will score much better in English language.

Sorry to jump on but I'm such a worrier and he is too, his anxiety is through the roof.
He tried his very best and that's all I asked of him. Lots of work to do for the rest of the exams next summer.

Massive good luck to all of your dc's awaiting their results tomorrow. Lots of pacing parents tomorrow up and down the country.

noblegiraffe · 22/08/2018 21:17

Sos it is a huge disadvantage to the first cohort, which is why they are pegging the pass, 4 and 7 grade boundaries to the proportion of kids who got a pass, C and A last year, so a kid who got would have got an A should get a 7 - the grade boundaries will be set to facilitate this.

sandybayley · 22/08/2018 21:17

Well all is strangely calm in the sandybayley household tonight. DS1 hasn't mentioned what's happening tomorrow except to ask if he can have a lift (he can, I'm working at home). He's much more interested in DDog improved recall on walks this week.

Results available at school between 10 and 10.30.

Discussion of grade boundaries is interesting but I'm not sure it helps me much. The only one I've taken comfort in is Ad Maths FSMQ which we will get tomorrow (DS1 said was awful). Also knowing the IGCSE history boundary is low is some comfort but I know others have had surprising result so it must have been really hard.

Sending positive vibes to all and wishing everyone a good nights sleep, if that's possible.

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 21:22

Thanks for explaining Noble ...I'm still dumbfounded that there can be 83 points between a 7 and a 9 (if the GB's are correct)....If this is the case I can see why they would want to separate the A and A*s of the later years (for Maths) - Its 1/3rd of the exam marks!

LooseAtTheSeams · 22/08/2018 21:24

callit that is a lovely photo! Thanks for the emotional assistance!
The AQA grades look plausible for English but let me just point out the pass mark and grade 5 in that case are virtually the same and the differentiation is aimed at the top grades, which is fair. 9 is not an A star and is totally dependent on how the top end nationally did. The vast majority of students just want to pass and fingers crossed for everyone they have aced it!

ChilliPowderMild · 22/08/2018 21:24

I think we are all finding the set-up a bit weird this year - especially the students!
Well, we went to the zoo late today after all the little 'uns had left, then on to Ramsgate for fish and chip supper and a walk along the seafront. DD is tired but has given instructions for the morning.

Good luck all, fingers and everything else crossed.

mmmz · 22/08/2018 21:27

signing off for the night. Good luck for tomorrow everyone!

TheThirdOfHerName · 22/08/2018 21:30

Hope everyone has a restful night.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 22/08/2018 21:30

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow!
Not sure anyone in this house will sleep too well tonight.. Ds still isn’t sure if he wants to open the email on his own or with me or for me to do it and tell him.
Whatever the outcome we are going for lunch to celebrate. Just hoping his perfectionism doesn’t kick in (the first time he ever got less than an A in anything he freaked out and although we’ve worked on that I think he might need some time to process).
Sorry for the brain dump lol.

goodbyestranger · 22/08/2018 21:34

Just got home and not going to bother to look at potentially dodgy grade boundaries. DD wants to go in about half way through the window for collecting results and open them on her own, not in front of friends or teachers. I'm going to hang back and talk to other parents which is the usual thing to do. Good luck to all DC on this thread.

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 21:34

mmmz - sending you another hug and really hoping that your Dm's health improves....worrying times.

I'm signing off now - I'm not going to wish everyone good luck because I know DC's have worked hard and dont need luck... and if results dont quite go to plan remember “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”

spababe · 22/08/2018 21:34

All calm here maybe because we had A levels last week?

Oratory1 · 22/08/2018 21:35

Nite 😀

Stickerrocks · 22/08/2018 21:50

13 hours 11 minutes & DD will know. Thinking of all of our DC, not just my own.

ReservoirDogs · 22/08/2018 21:52

So I am guessing I may be first on in the morning as DS gets his emailed at 6am so I will know at the sane time as grade boundaries are released!

ReservoirDogs · 22/08/2018 21:53
