Oh sorry mmzz yes November sorry! What were Junes then?

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 20:30

Cherryburn - I think the science subjects are spot on - DD found Biology easier than Chem but that is down to personal strength in a subject rather than the exam.

I just cannot understand History or French really - although I have a VERY large grin because any decrease in grade boundary is a MASSIVE plus in two subjects that DD has struggled with..

Oddly enough I did not want to see GB's last night but I do feel more comfortable knowing they look OK...I dont mean DD will do better than expected but they look reasonable.

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 20:33

Grade 9 123

As you can see fairly uniform distances between grades.

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 20:35

Cross posted mmzzSmile

mmmz · 22/08/2018 20:37

I think those 2018 leaked ones must be fake.

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 20:37

Ah well all will be revealed tomorrow!

Cherryburn · 22/08/2018 20:38

Oneteen sorry I hadn’t even looked at History because DS did a different board (or French, because he didn’t do it at all!) But of the 5 subjects on there that he did do, all the GBs fit with how he felt about the exams vs past papers.

Glad seeing the GBs has helped a bit- I’ve always found seeing them to be a good thing.

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 20:38

Yep they are me thinks there would be uproar otherwise.

myrtleWilson · 22/08/2018 20:39

Just popping by to say I hope you and your DC get through tomorrow with smiles, joy and congratulations and recognition for all the effort put in and ready to embark on their next stages in life. I'm a Yr 10 mom so will be looking out for next years thread!

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 20:40

I think boundaries will go up on English by about 2-3% but no more unless cohort bright or papers easy.

mmmz · 22/08/2018 20:40

Thanks, myrtleWilson. its nice of you to take the time to do that.

ReservoirDogs · 22/08/2018 20:40

I suspect the legacy ones may have upped their difficulty slightly so there is less of an issue when it switches to 9-1 for everything next year

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 20:41

Thanks myrtle. I second what Myrtle says!

Cherryburn · 22/08/2018 20:42

Thanks myrtle. Best of luck for next year!

noblegiraffe · 22/08/2018 20:43

English and maths won’t have the 8 halfway between the 7 and 9 or equal spacing between the other grade boundaries because that’s how they are to be set for the first cohort only. Grade boundaries in subsequent years are set using comparable outcomes.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 20:45

That makes sense, noble, thanks.

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 20:45

Oh well that's put the cat amongst the pigeons then noble.
Did that student who already had GCSE in maths and who sat new one last year get a grade 9 noble?

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 20:49

Comparable to what though? ( sigh). Roll on tomorrow because guessing game doesn't help the stress!

Auntpetunia2015 · 22/08/2018 20:52

Have followed from afar with these exams having been very involved in the threads 3 years ago when DS did his.

Dds turn this year and after the year she’s had with cyber bullying and on line stalking from so called best friends all coming to a head in March, along with a diagnosis of autism last year I’m just grateful she managed to sit her exams. Well most of them she managed to faint just before the final biology exam and Knock herself unconscious ending up missing all her final exams that week! She needs 5 to get into college and that’s all I’m focusing on. She’s fluctuating between being v v nervous to “oh it’ll be fine !” Good luck all.

callitwhatyouwill · 22/08/2018 20:54

Signing back in after a long break- good luck to everyone.
Like many, I feel physically sick- it comes in waves and I haven’t slept properly in weeks. DD2 is dog-sitting at the moment and has a wonderful distraction. We’re going to wait in the car whilst she collects her results and she’s going to open them up with us . She has until 1 tomorrow to take up her place at school and then it’s straight back to this little oneSmile

Oratory1 · 22/08/2018 20:54

Ha ha not sure whether the analysis is adding to the stress or a useful distraction, probably the latter.

Very best wishes to everybody tomorrow and here s hoping all those who need a certain outcome get at least what they need.

androbbob · 22/08/2018 20:57

Evening everyone and a new thread moving very quickly! Posted last night but caught back button before it posted properly so lost it all.

So in summary - coffee in cup, loving scone and cream / jam debate / good to hear from sost and glad to hear that mmmz DM was found and on the mend. Did AH DH make any progress with mystery illness?

Not joining in the debate on grade boundaries and all that, and not publishing DD grades on FB - its her successes not mine and don't want to enter into competitive parenting - I don't even think her DF has even registered its results day tomorrow despite her mentioning it earlier. He is at work so will find out when he returns home about 9pm. Unless she decides to text him.

I have bought a card for the morning and used a combo of sost and oneteen lovely words in it and will credit it her bank with some spends in the morning.

Good luck all of you for tomorrow - hopefully we will all get some sleep otherwise it will be a long day tomorrow! Tablet is charged ready to read tomorrow when I no doubt wake at 5.30am

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 20:57

It's just stats, sost. The boundaries are set like that the first year, after that they'll be set so the same proportion of students gets the same grade. E.g. Say 3% get a 9, 12% get an 8, 15% get a 7 etc. The next year's grade boundaries are set so those % are maintained, or as close as damnit.
