DD has a group of friends round - distraction tactics! They have been playing board games all afternoon and are going out for dinner together later.
So far they all seem in very good spirits.

I'm not looking at any grade boundaries - I think it will make me more anxious.

ReservoirDogs · 22/08/2018 17:31

Cherryburn - they don't look too bad. DS has 4 of his exams on that link

Cherryburn · 22/08/2018 17:38

Reservoir no they don’t really. RS very high again though! But good to see that Geography has dropped considerably (and that DS wasn’t wrong when he said it was really difficult!) DS has 5 on there. Maths is 9-1.

Oratory1 · 22/08/2018 17:43

hmmm DS just gone to work and said 'as I'm working late don't wake me up in the morning I don't mind what time I go in'. Well I won't wake him up but I will be stomping about and accidently dropping things outside his door !!

Oratory1 · 22/08/2018 17:44

Encouraging that grade boundaries so far seem to be reflecting how the dc found the papers - gives some faith in the system maybe ?

Cherryburn · 22/08/2018 17:44

Oratory hoover the stairs and landing!

Oratory1 · 22/08/2018 17:51

good plan

mmmz · 22/08/2018 18:09

This is the 2018 grade boundaries for A.Q. A english lang that i got from twitter. They could be completely fictitious.

DD has several subjects on the leaked boundaries and thankfully the boundaries look to be lower in a few subjects than last year's...I havent seen Igcse 9-1 for Maths and English yet...too busy to look.

mmmz · 22/08/2018 18:10

See what I mean about last year's 9 being this year's 8 etc?

Cherryburn · 22/08/2018 18:12

Oneteen I don’t think the 9-1 boundaries have been posted anywhere yet

mmmz · 22/08/2018 18:18

Has anyone seen any edexcel grade boundaries (not the iGCSE ones)?

ReservoirDogs · 22/08/2018 18:34

No it looks like just the Edexcel igcses A*-G have been leaked but not the igcses 9-1 or the regular gcses.

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 18:45

French/History/Graphic Design have all come down by 3/4%...It is good to see the DT GB come down because DD said that the written exam was really weird (not like any past paper) and everyone else agreed ...Will have a search around after tea to see if I can find 9-1. IGCSE and GCSE.

DD doesnt want to go to piccys tonight - too tired.

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 18:50

Apparently these two are leaking GB's @Grade6pm
@theboundaries18

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 19:02

I've looked at some of these, but without DS's marks they don't really mean anything to me. Roll on tomorrow!

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 19:09

Ellen - very true ...the only thing I am pleased about is that the GB's seem to be in line with how DD felt about the exams...e,g, DT GB has gone down and DD said it was a weird paper ...I'm more comfortable with GB's going down than going up!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 19:16

I know the Edexcel GCSE maths was considered easier than last year so would expect the grade boundaries to go up.

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 19:23

mmmz - they have loaded the grade 8-9 by a larger margin than the 7-8 which is interesting on those eng lang stats.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 19:44

Yes, I thought they were supposed to be equal steps between 7-8 and 8-9. Confused

ReservoirDogs · 22/08/2018 19:47

No each gcse will have a predetermined percentage number of 9s depending on which exam it is. For example, Latin has a higher proportion of more able students taking it so there will be a higher proportion of top marks.

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 19:48

I've also seen Edexcel Maths Higher/Foundation and the top grade is not so high 196 for a 9 and 46 for a 4(19% so slightly up on last year)

mmmz · 22/08/2018 19:49

That's true! Maybe the tweet I saw was fake then? It was done up on official aqa paper and as laid out the way AQA have on their site for 2017, but it could just be photo shopped.

I hope it is.. otherwise Ds's hoped for 7+ is beginning to look unlikely.

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 19:50

Reservoir - Ofqual stated that they take the GB for a 9 and a 7 then split the difference between the GB's for an 8....which they had done the yr before so I wonder if those GB's are correct.

mmmz · 22/08/2018 19:52

ReservoirDogs - that's true too. Both facts are true. What you wrote and that the 8 grade boundary is supposed to be a the midpoint between the 7 and 9 boundaries.

There is a process for working out the grade boundaries for 7, 8 and 9 and what you wrote is the first step. Whereas what EllenJane wrote is the last step.
