JufusMum · 13/06/2018 11:05

farangatan he also teaches at Base studios in London every Thursday 7pm

DaffoDeffo · 13/06/2018 11:06

sandybayley i also did chemistry A level though not sure I remember any of it!

DaffoDeffo · 13/06/2018 11:09

ds just got back. Said Chemistry had a lot on rate of reaction

DaffoDeffo · 13/06/2018 11:10

(that's AQA Chemistry!)

ReservoirDogs · 13/06/2018 11:13

Edexcel igcse chemistry 4CHO/2C DS says couldn't have asked for a better paper and general consensus was it was a nice paper (superselective school though by way of qualification)

Teenmum60 · 13/06/2018 11:15

Feedback on Chemistry IGCSE...much easier than paper 1...just one odd question which was open to wider interpretation at the end.

Uniform (or suit) looked lovely - very grown up ..skirt fitted without any adjustments jacket needs darts!

Cblue · 13/06/2018 11:16

Grrrrr.....feedback from DD on igcse chemistry.......”it was really easy” aaarrgghhh. So sleepness night, tears and cries of “I don’t want to go” (and that was just me Smile) And it was easy? Bleeding easy!?!?

I am mightily relieved but how frustrating.

Anyway that’s her done and dusted.....yay!!!

Have we finished first?
How did all your little Stars do?
And am I still allowed on the group?

M

Cherryburn · 13/06/2018 11:16

Yes DS happy with Edexcel igcse Chemistry. He’s not back yet so no further detail!

cubscout · 13/06/2018 11:17

Early AQA feedback - mixed! 'Easy paper, bad because grade boundaries will be high. Nothing I revised came up'. Make of that what you will -(please any translations welcome!). As you can see ds is not the most eloquent of boys!

brainmelt · 13/06/2018 11:21

Another one happy with IGCSE Chemistry. Felt easy. Says he knows for sure he got a 2 marker wrong... maybe it's the question everyone is talking about?

Cherryburn · 13/06/2018 11:22

DS said something about the last question being tricky?

KittiesInsane · 13/06/2018 11:25

DD hasn't been in touch.

This is good news, because she has a paper this afternoon and was going to go for lunch with friends between the two UNLESS it had been awful and she needed t come home and wail for two hours.

Still, a text might have been nice.

Teenmum60 · 13/06/2018 11:27

@cherryburn - I think it was the last question ...I didnt really understand what DD was saying but something to the affect that it was a needle in a haystack question.

Cblue - is your DD not doing Physics on Friday?

Cblue · 13/06/2018 11:34

@teen - nope. Physics was 2 papers on 23rd May and alternative to practical on 10th May. Looks like they were Cambridge whereas chemistry was Edexcel (both igcse)

...no idea why school chose different boards though.

Stickerrocks · 13/06/2018 11:37

Edexcel triple chemistry: 6 mark Qs at the end were tricky, but she had a bash anyway & answered everything. What she had revised came up.

YOU CAN DO IT DS, ONLY ONE MORE TO GO I never thought I'd say that.

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/06/2018 11:51

On my way to work found DS loitering on street corner with his friends. Tried to be subtle in asking how it went but suspect my mere presence was embarrassing!
Anyway, I think the consensus was that chemistry was all right and they all seemed very cheerful! Or past caring...!

Oratory1 · 13/06/2018 11:56

Aqa fairly straightforward here with no weird stuff !

Now on to physics but thoughts on end if term and fun stuff so definitely losing focus.

Planning to go in to school during exam leave for various band practise and ccf etc. I think it’s his idea of heaven - school without the lessons !

TerfTerfTerf · 13/06/2018 11:57

AQA higher tier chemistry - hard, but managed to answer everything. Chemistry is "boring, waffly like biology, equations like physics, why bother doing it as a separate subject" Grin

DS now tells me that actually his required grades for sixth form (state selective outstanding 60-oxbridge-a-year) are 7 in Maths, 6 in English and 5s for everything else. And that none of his teachers has predicted 9s in anything for anybody. "I'll be happy with all 8s" he says GrinGrin

hmcAsWas · 13/06/2018 12:01

Thanks for the reassurance Loose

AQA Chemistry here - dd's weakest subject so it was never going to be wonderful. She felt it was quite hard but okayish. She then cheerily said - "but it doesn't matter even if I fail it mum". Okay then!

Teenmum60 · 13/06/2018 12:06

@TerfTerfTerf

Were those Hills entrance requirements? If so pleasantly surprised ...I thought they would have been higher. When we went to the open evening which was unbelievably busy, we only chatted to Physics teacher who didnt seem keen at having a student in Physics that didn't want to take Maths ! We were out of catchment and I therefore doubt whether DD would have been offered a place ...

dogzdinner · 13/06/2018 12:11

I haven't heard from DS about Chemistry, but his standard response to all exams has been 'good' . He doesn't appear to have done a huge amount of revision, so I hope they really have gone as well as he thinks.

For 6th form he needs 6's in English, Maths, Biology and Geography. I think he should be fine, but who knows!

I've been trying to think of things for him to do in the long Summer break. He's got 2 x 1 week holidays (with me and then his Dad) but that's all. I think sitting in his room on his computer for the rest of the time will be a bit of a waste

TerfTerfTerf · 13/06/2018 12:17

teen yes it's Hills. I got the impression that for catchment they will take quite "low" grades but they do interview insist on a guidance meeting and have been known to say no to students they don't like even really clever ones.
What's your first choice now?

I was prepared to not like the place but actually I was impressed - mostly by the students I interrogated talked to, and by the way they've put new styles of tutoring and pastoral care in place because of all the mental health issues that are affecting so many kids. Local friends with older DCs have told me how much it's changed for the better just in the last 3 years. DS will thrive in such a massive school and hopefully widen his social circle, but I know many children would hate that environment. Thank goodness for such a huge choice of schools!
