Pity they aren't publishing grade boundaries before results day this year, no relief till results day (sigh)

Teenmum60 · 13/06/2018 09:37

@daffo - Sorry only just read your post and that is an awful system to put 16 yr old's through (or any other DC's). Hope your DS manages to secure the place he would like.

farangatang · 13/06/2018 09:45

mmzz - sounds like our DC skils are complete opposites as her

GCSE with highest hopes is English language and Literature
GCSE result most feared MATHS
Summer plans - move back to UK, set up room, buy new wardrobe with warm clothes in, NCS (hopefully) and sit in Old Bailey public sessions...

Sostenueto · 13/06/2018 09:55

GCSE with highest hopes geography
GCSE with lowest hope english language

Sostenueto · 13/06/2018 09:57

GCSEs with medium hope (7/8)maths,biology,chemistry,physics, Spanish,R.E,

Sostenueto · 13/06/2018 09:58

GCSE don't care a damn about art

JufusMum · 13/06/2018 10:03

DD gone off to Chemistry in a bit of a pickle, got halfway to school and had to turn around because she had forgotten her Alice in Wonderland compact mirror (13th birthday present from her best friend) and she carries it everywhere with her because otherwise "bad things will happen" - she's superstitious as hell. Left her at school very grumpy. I think the stress is starting to show with all of our DC. Taking her to a concert she has been looking forward to on Saturday (Hollywood Vampires - supergroup with Alice Cooper, Joe Perry and her beloved Johnny Depp) so hoping that will chill her out before German next week.
She is nervous about Physics on Friday, said she found Paper 1 a bit too easy so expecting Paper 2 to be a stinker.
Reservoir I'm an invigilator too!

EdwinaLIzzard · 13/06/2018 10:03

Good luck to all the DC / DGC sitting Chemistry (and I think Russian) today

MY DD has been offered a place at her current school for sixth form to study for her choice of A Levels, but obviously dependent upon results.

As we near the end of the exam period, just two left now, I am growing more and more nervous about the results. I know she doesn't perform well in exams, she never has, so in terms of predictions I would guess at 4s and 5s, with hopefully some 6s in English and Drama. The school believe she is capable of achieving 6s and 7s but accept that it is very unlikely because of her exam phobia.

Just to add to my stress, DD is actually going to be away when the results are published and because of the high likelihood that she will be disappointed with the results we have agreed that they will be posted to us and she can open them when she gets home on the Sunday. So I will have to spend several days staring at the envelope ..........

Oratory1 · 13/06/2018 10:06

Not holding out much hope for chemistry today - definitely slipped through the net as far as revision concerned and no past papers done since Easter :( Hopefully more prepared for physics on Friday.

It will be a strange feeling when they're done as its been hanging over us all for so long. Huge relief that its over but I have to say, in spite of how difficult its been, I have really treasured spending this time with DS. I have been heavily involved partly because he needs the 'scaffolding' others have talked about but also I have been very fortunate in that this year I have time available and also our dose of illness, sick parents and other traumas all seemed to come a few years ago when the DDs were doing theirs meaning I have both time and room in my head to help this time round. DS has been a joy to spend time with (apart from a minor meltdown over English language) and has worked harder than usual (not saying much) so has been relatively calm and pleased with himself. I realise I am very lucky in that, whatever the result turn out like.

I remain frustrated that the results won't reflect his intelligence and hard work but he has handled the whole experience brilliantly.

Good luck to all today and hope you can keep going til the end. Looks like we will be going until the afternoon of the 21st.

JufusMum · 13/06/2018 10:06

GCSE with highest hopes - RE and Geography
GCSE result most feared - English Language and Maths
Summer plans - lots of dog sitting, holiday to Menorca with me, DH and her best friend, dance comps, volunteering at our local dog rescue charity, possibly looking for a job if it fits in with the dog sitting, if possible a day trip to Blackpool and a private dance lesson with Lukas McFarlane (famous contemporary dancer...Hamilton will probably know who I am on about), laying on her bed looking at pictures of Johnny Depp, making a mess of my kitchen, dance practice in the garden.

sandybayley · 13/06/2018 10:08

@EdwinaLIzzard that sounds like torture. How will you resist steaming open the envelope.

I just had one of those sick / stomach turnover moments thinking about results day. Let's talk about something else.

Sostenueto · 13/06/2018 10:17

Said to my dd yesterday that my hopes are all dgds hard work pays off on results day because I dont think I could handle the fall out if it doesntSad

EdwinaLIzzard · 13/06/2018 10:21

I so agree with Oratory, I just don't think the outcome will reflect the input with these GCSEs and that is why I think my DD will be really upset with the results.

Sandy I really don't know how I am going to resist, it will take all of my willpower (and I don't have much!!)

hmcAsWas · 13/06/2018 10:22

I think it was Bluebelle who was concerned that we should avoid being on page 13 when the GCSE results come out. Hopefully reassured now since this is at 10 pages in less than 24 hours!

Hope you are feeling better now The Third

Shock Goodbye at the bus being 20 minutes late. Hope it didn't unsettle your dd too much

Also Shock at TerfTerf's ds having the beginnings of pressure sores

  • Our poor dc! (Hope your dd felt a bit calmer today Cblue)

My dd is looking tired, and is bored and fed up but really doing well at keeping the stress at bay. Looks like 2 years of seeing a Child and Adolescent Psychologist has paid off.

Me however - I'm quite stressed. We didn't really examine mark schemes to familiarise with the keywords needed in science - dd just ploughed through the revision guides making notes and mindmaps and did some Tassomai. Now I am thinking she might have fallen short based on this particular omission. Also whilst she has felt that each and every exam has been 'fine' (apart from Paper 1 Chemistry which was 'not good') would she even realise if she had gone the wrong end of the stick...?

She should get mostly 6's and a couple of 7's with perhaps a shot at an 8 in a subject or two but equally perhaps a drop to a 4/5 in others. Now I am thinking she won't get even close to that. I think i'll be better when the exams finish and I can forget about it for a while

Finally - Peggy, thanks for sharing where your older dd is at. She seems to be flying now having followed a less conventional route - I guess cream rises to the top

farangatang · 13/06/2018 10:29

Jufus your lucky DD - isn't Lukas McFarlane the one-sock guy from Got to Dance a few years ago? HE was astonishing!

This GCSE mallarky reminds me a little of planning for a wedding - months/sometimes years of hard work on the details, going over and over important things to make sure they're right, scheduling, often feeling something that should be enjoyable is a bit of a chore because of all the hard work, and then after all that, the event is over in a flash!

Hopefully our DC's results day will be the 'happy honeymoon' they hope for!

slinkyme · 13/06/2018 10:34

Feedback from DD igcse edexcel chemistry - fine. No clangers.

Although she just realised that she got 1 mark wrong definitely. No doubt there is more.

JufusMum · 13/06/2018 10:40

farangatan yes that's the one, she adores him.
Not sure if he is doing private lessons this summer as he appears to be overseas, but keeping a close eye on his Instagram. He often teaches at Pineapple.

Sostenueto · 13/06/2018 10:41

Blimey dgds AQA doesn't finish for at least another give minutes! Exam 1 hour3/4

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/06/2018 10:42

hmc I do know what you mean about late worries over key words (I'm the same) but I'm sure they would have had lots of reminders during and after mocks so we should not think about it!Hopefully your dd will soon be able to rest and relax. Thanks

Stickerrocks · 13/06/2018 10:43

Your wedding analogy does sound similar to our GCSE experience. Our parents got involved in ordering & paying in the background, but had no idea what we were up to. No last minute panic (or hen/stag dos). I didn't even get my hair & make up done on the day. We had a few photos taken in the garden, then I got in the car with my DF, turned up at the church early, walked in with my best friend, got married and then had a nice dinner with family & friends later. 24 years later, I suppose the results are still everything I hoped for!

TheThirdOfHerName · 13/06/2018 10:45

Thank you for all the get well wishes. Sorry for not thanking you by name but my eyes are still squiffy and head still hurts.

I'm not sure DS2 has done much Chemistry at all recently. He needs an 8 in Chemistry for the entry requirements for the sixth form he wants to go to.

CBlue I hope your DD feels a bit better today.

farangatang · 13/06/2018 10:50

stickerrocks Grin
Definitely better than just a great honeymoon!!

TheThirdOfHerName · 13/06/2018 10:51

DS2's summer plans:
Work experience
Orchestra tour to Germany
Volunteer at local library
Family holiday
Physics summer school: sandybayley has a DC who will be testing it out for him first Smile
Maths pre-A-level course set by school (home learning)
Clarinet practice
Plenty of D&D

farangatang · 13/06/2018 10:52

Jufus adding 'classes at Pineapple' to DD's summer holiday intentions...!

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/06/2018 10:52

Third an 8 in chemistry is a tough requirement!
DS could only get an 8 if AQA gets really confused and sends out a geography paper by mistake.
