Very positive feedback for AQA triple physics from dgd. Only one tricky question but solved it. So that's a relief and another paper bites the dust! Glad to hear others liked it too!

Sostenueto · 23/05/2018 16:15

It seems biology crap paper, chemistry fair to middling and physics a gift!

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/05/2018 16:16

Here is Helen Arney's song about the Banana Equivalent Dosage:

callitwhatyouwill · 23/05/2018 16:19

Did anyone’s dc do Edexcel higher level Physics?

LooseAtTheSeams · 23/05/2018 16:22

DS also happy with physics, so that's a relief! Smile

mmzz · 23/05/2018 16:26

callitwhatyouwill - yes, DS did (assuming you mean the triple science course, rather than the combined science?)

Cherryburn · 23/05/2018 16:27

DS happy with Edexcel igcse Physics. Sounds like it's gone well all round. Hurrah!

Changebagsandgladrags · 23/05/2018 16:30

It's nearly here. DH has his maths tomorrow.

areyoubeingserviced · 23/05/2018 16:31

I am often worried when students say that a paper was easy.

hmcAsWas · 23/05/2018 16:31

Dd found AQA Physics 'fine'. We never get more than a 'fine' - she's a very cautious girl Grin

LooseAtTheSeams · 23/05/2018 16:33

changebags good luck to your DH! Hope it goes well for him!

mmzz · 23/05/2018 16:33

Changebagsandgladrags good luck to him. It can't be easy doing these things when you aren't a teenager/ 20 something any more. Also, i presume he wasn't that good at it at school, or he'd have passed it age 16 and wouldn't be doing it now? So, in that case, its even harder for him and he deserves good luck just for taking it on.

Eve · 23/05/2018 16:45

physics was fine here - all the equations we have spent 30 mins each night for weeks learning - they give them in the paper!!!

goodbyestranger · 23/05/2018 16:46

Presumably everyone here saying AQA Physics (Triple) was easy / a gift are talking about higher tier? DD4 says that everyone at school thought it was seriously hard and bearing in mind it's a super selective and so the kids are pretty bright and some incredibly so, I find it odd that they found it tough, even the student who's amazing at physics. Anyhow, verdict here was that it was tough and decidedly not easy let alone a gift! Ah well - tomorrow's another day and all that :)

goodbyestranger · 23/05/2018 16:47

Not so good here Cherryburn!

mmzz · 23/05/2018 16:52

In the Edexcel specification, there is a list of formulae to be memorised and another list of formulae that will be printed on the back of exam paper.
Presumably AQA do the same thing?

So, its all there. Every teacher, if not student, will have gone over the spec with a fine tooth comb and it really is unmissable.... I don't understand how the students could walk into the exam not knowing what they should have memorised and what they had to look out for on the back page.

mmzz · 23/05/2018 16:53

is there a triple science foundation tier?

Allthebestnamesareused · 23/05/2018 16:57

In the CIE igcse Physics you have to learn all the formulae.

It was quite a strange paper. Anyone else's child take this one?

LooseAtTheSeams · 23/05/2018 16:58

goodbyestranger higher tier AQA physics - DS didn't think it was easy, but it was better than he expected. However, his fears were quite deep beforehand!

Changebagsandgladrags · 23/05/2018 17:04

He did CSE at school but hasn't got the C/G4 equivalent. He's going for the higher tier too. I think he's capable of a 6/7, but he'll be happy with a 5 or 4.

slinkyme · 23/05/2018 17:04

Edexcel igcse here too and DD found it easy. She was the least prepared for this exam but felt it was the easiest paper so far. Thank goodness as we both were very nervous this morning.

Although it does make me think how high he grade boundaries are going to be.

sandybayley · 23/05/2018 17:05

DS1 thought Edexcel Physic was 'pretty good' (the triple). He says that there were a couple of tricky questions but not enough to be a concern. He was amused that there was a question about a toaster with a picture saying 'this is a toaster'.

@Goodbyestranger - I think your DD may be worrying a bit too much and focussing on what she couldn't do (I see this in my perfectionist DD). Or it may be that my DS1 perception isn't representative. His schools is selective and does very well at STEM. Over 90% of candidates got an A star last year in physics. We just won't know until results day.

I have just had the inevitable text of 'can you buy me a compass' on the way home from work. if I had a £1 for every compass I have bought...

goodbyestranger · 23/05/2018 17:05

Thanks LooseAtTheSeams!

Yes mmzz there is and it was today at the same time and for the same length of time.

DD4 said the last couple of questions were brutish but she was certainly in good company at school - they all sat around in the sunshine after the exam and said it was grim. Not even phones ringing to put them off today - they were able to give it their full concentration and even so claim it was grim!

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/05/2018 17:06

Good luck to Changebags DH and all the DCs for tomorrow's Maths.

DS2 has just printed off a past paper to do, which is good as he hasn't done any Maths for over a week.

dogzdinner · 23/05/2018 17:08

Sandybayley Grin at the compass request. I can relate to that!

I actually still have my school compass, I haven't let my DCs take it out of the house at it would gone in 60 seconds. (I don't know why I am so attached it, but it's kind of lethal not like the namby pamby ones they have these days)
