Oh my gosh, how difficult for the kids Shock
That's truly awful superdoodle

AlexanderHamilton · 25/05/2018 15:10

That is awful. My two would not have coped well with that. Someone needs severley disciplining.

hmcAsWas · 25/05/2018 15:17

OMG! - superdoodle that's truly shocking.

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/05/2018 15:20

superdoodle your poor DS.
I hope the school acts to make sure nothing like that ever happens again.

Waitingforthesunshine · 25/05/2018 15:24

I have been lurking on these brilliant threads, but now have to post. We have exactly the same scenario as Superdoodle! Very stressed DS, no idea if we can do anything about it though?

AlexanderHamilton · 25/05/2018 15:25

So is that two schools who have cocked up or is it hte same school. Are they both CIE board?

pretendingtobechilled · 25/05/2018 15:25

Oh gosh superdoodle; that's terrible.

That said, I'd be very surprised if some arrangement wasn't come to with the exam board as it wasn't the pupils' fault. Maybe just ignoring the marks on this paper for these candidates?

pretendingtobechilled · 25/05/2018 15:25

And also@Waiting.

pretendingtobechilled · 25/05/2018 15:26

If it's two schools, sounds like maybe a change to the set texts was made part way through the year and the schools not notified?

brainmelt · 25/05/2018 15:27

superdoodle I'm speechless. All I can say is I hope your DS gets high marks for his attempt. HoE might get fired.

Waitingforthesunshine · 25/05/2018 15:27

No idea if the same school, but yes, it was the CIE board. Sounds unlikely that 2 different schools have made the same mistake though.

AlexanderHamilton · 25/05/2018 15:27

It appers there is a precedent. I wonder if its possible to find out what the outcome was back in 2014.

pretendingtobechilled · 25/05/2018 15:27

I think you would have a very good grounds to appeal/complain. Your dcs should not be penalised.

AlexanderHamilton · 25/05/2018 15:27

Sorry forgot link

brainmelt · 25/05/2018 15:28

You too waiting? Also CIE??

brainmelt · 25/05/2018 15:28

Oh cross posts

Waitingforthesunshine · 25/05/2018 15:29

Yes, also CIE

Sostenueto · 25/05/2018 15:30

That is really shocking! Hope for all those DC that it gets resolved quickly and fairly!Shock

Nettleskeins · 25/05/2018 15:30

superdoodle so terrible it sounds like a joke Sad That once happened to dh when he was doing Abitur, they taught him the wrong syllabus on one subject and only found out just before exams, and I think school had to do something in mitigation but that was in Germany and a long time ago. Presumably the whole cohort should be given benefit of doubt if it affects their sixth form entry in terms of grades..if there is a Sixth form? Or perhaps official letters spelling out the mistake to the next institution he applies to?

pretendingtobechilled · 25/05/2018 15:37

Looking at the spec, it is quite unclear - see the asterisks.

www.cambridgeinternational.org/images/203356-2017-2019-syllabus.pdf

Which book did the class learn then?

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 25/05/2018 15:38

the play had been removed from the syllabus....

Oh my goodness, those poor kids. I can just imagine their horror at opening the paper and finding nothing you have studied on it. It's like a bad dream that you still get as an adult Shock

mmzz · 25/05/2018 15:43

When candidates have been fully prepared for the specification but the wrong texts have been chosen, special consideration may be given at the discretion of the awarding body. Centres are advised that it is their responsibility to ensure that the correct texts are taught. Where this has not happened there can be no guarantee that a candidate will receive special consideration. Such instances will be investigated by the awarding body on a case by-case basis. Where the wrong texts have been taught, it is essential that the texts studied must have been examined in the current specification in a previous examination series.

there is hope ^

Waitingforthesunshine · 25/05/2018 15:45

In our case they had learnt an Inspector Calls. I agree, it is very unclear on the link.

superdoodle · 25/05/2018 15:48

Thanks for all your supportive messages and links. It seems there is some hope of special consideration but no guarantee.

In our school it was “An Inspector Calls” too.
