Just went to have a nosy at the daughter-phone-in-exam thread but it's been deleted Angry

Fast moving threads these are!

Another good day for DD - psychology and Physics (triple science higher paper) - both declared as good exams! DD did say there was a random AQA question like on the biology paper with chickens, eggs and carrots - about radiation and bananas! She did know that potassium was the link! AQA definitely have food issues!!

Maths first paper tomorrow - been revising most of the afternoon and the evening, so as prepared as she can be!

HesmyLobster - how was psychology for your DD? Hope it went well.

All this selective school lark is washing over me! Standard secondary school here, no grammar schools, only private schools. some local schools are better than others, but DD has been treated well in her school. Those who are less able are not supported as much it appears. Hers is an 8 form entry and has about 240 per year.

I wonder what we will all do threadwise once these exams are over? Will it be Prom threads and then a holding thread to results day Grin

Looseattheseams - no grade 9 predictions as DD school, a few 8's and more 7's, as well as the just as good 5 and 6's - I think they have been conservative with their grades and hope that the more able students do better. We too have been stressing the do your best and as long as you can get to do the A levels you want, then all is good.

Not been too much post-exam checking, just moving onto the next one.

DD says they have to leave their blazers outside with their bags, and obviously their phones. They also have to have their ears on show!! Makes me wonder what has gone on in the past.

I should never have started down that path with The Farmer's Bride because it gave me nightmares!. Now I can't sleep.

Sostenueto · 24/05/2018 05:11

Thank you one and all for your compliments last night which I missed as I was zzzzzzzzz!Flowers
Good luck to all today in exams. Another 2 exams bite the dust!Grin

https://www.thepoke.co.uk/2018/05/22/dad-helped-kids-school-trip-hilarious-tale-thats-never-good-idea this went viral yesterday. It's very funny. Makes me glad though that we've moved in from primary school trips. That and fancy dress days.
I'd actually choose a GCSE exam day over the red alert feeling when a letter came home from school to say they'd been studying Spain / Space/ animals and the teacher thought it would be fun if everyone came in on Friday dressed as a matador/ Saturn/ favourite zoo animal.

sandybayley · 24/05/2018 07:12

It must be Maths GCSE today! DS1 us up and fully equipped. Best of luck to all the DC today.

Teenmum60 · 24/05/2018 07:15

Good luck everyone today...will have to catch up with posts tomorrow- moves so fast.

BlueBelle123 · 24/05/2018 07:19

Ooo abit of equipment envy going on here, that looks like a sturdy compass, DS's is rather on the flimsy side and I've never seen a protractor like that before, although I guess its not a protector !!!??

Good luck everyone!!

cubscout · 24/05/2018 07:21

Crying with laughter!

sandybayley · 24/05/2018 07:29

Super sturdy metal protractor. My DC like a 360 one and I've learnt that plastic just won't do Grin

Good luck today everyone!

DS is walking to school , he left at 7 as he has a Maths "Wake Up" session first thing.

He has gone in fairly calm despite a squabble with DD over how she spoke to DS2 (he has additional needs and DS1 always stands up for him, even when he shouldn't Grin ) - Maths is one of his best subjects so fingers x.

Then English lit tomorrow and we are done until after half term. He has more exams after half term than before.

Changebagsandgladrags · 24/05/2018 07:37

DH is primed and ready (actually he's in the toilet with exam belly).

snozzlemaid · 24/05/2018 07:43

Good luck to your DH and everyone's DCs with the maths today.

Changebagsandgladrags · 24/05/2018 07:48

Yes good luck to all the DC and people in their 40s (and all ages).

DH said if anyone tells him GCSEs are easy he now knows the truth.

wineoclockthanks · 24/05/2018 07:48

I loved that school trip 'blog' but sadly just read in the BBC ness sitetgat it wasn't real Sad

Amazingly accurate though (I'm a TA) and very very funny.

DS left at 6.45 so he wouldn't be late for maths!

Hope it goes well for everyone.

LooseAtTheSeams · 24/05/2018 07:53

Good luck all! Just maths today and English lit tomorrow.

mmzz · 24/05/2018 08:00

Today DS has " Cosmological Evidence that God Exists", RC church's views on "Gender prejudice and discrimination" (spoiler: they have no prejudice"), Sexual relationships and maths.

Guess which one is less convulted?!

JugglingMummyof2 · 24/05/2018 08:02

Anyone else feeling slightly sick this morning? I really want DD to score highly in Maths today as it is her best paper and will give her a confident start. Also RS - Islam went well so if she could nail this one (Christainity - so unfortunate use of the word) then she should get her predicted grade over all - provided an 8 doesn't turn out to be 96% as it was in their mocks. On other days there has been one she cared about more than the other but today both are equally important to her and I can see she is getting tired too.

HesMyLobster · 24/05/2018 08:08

DD also left at 7 to walk in for a maths wake up revision session.
She said the English one on Tuesday was really helpful, so she'll be going to as many as the school put on I think.

She seems fairly philosophical about maths. Her parting words were, she's never going to get a 9, but she knows what she knows and is confident of a 6, possibly even a 7 if the papers go her way.

Good Luck to all this morning, DCs and DHs! Sending positive, mathsy vibes to everyone 🍀🍀🍀

mmzz · 24/05/2018 08:14

I think the maths exam will be more challenging this year than it was last year, following the pattern of the English exam, which is also in its 2bd year.
Probably that means more wordy questions where you have to think what techniques you know and what combination can be applied to the question.

Saying that 18% to get a 4 last year was woeful, so maybe they'll make it easier to be more accessible?

We'll know in about 2 1/2 hours time.

mmzz · 24/05/2018 08:16

Extremely grumpy DS1 this morning because the maths teacher has commanded them to come in for 8am. "What's the point?", "Who do I have to do this?", "Its just a waste of time!".

He's more stressed out about this than actually having two papers to do today. What did I say yesterday about being impressed by his maturity?

RosieLig · 24/05/2018 08:17

English Lit q for tomorrow (we have poetry tomorrow with Shakespeare -OCR board).

How much do they need to know about the poets?

LooseAtTheSeams · 24/05/2018 08:25

Poets - just enough to put relevant context in the answer.

goodbyestranger · 24/05/2018 08:26

Gosh some DC have to leave so early Shock. Bus comes at 8.15 here, thankfully.

cubscout · 24/05/2018 08:27

Juggling yes I'm feeling sick too! Don't know why, ds on course for a 9 and not at all concerned about this morning. Feels like a lot of pressure though.
