Sorry, we got the email at 10am ish Thurs 22nd sept rather than the fri 23rd as we had been told. Then did 2nd stage on the sat 1st oct I think

RueDeWakening · 20/09/2017 22:31

Pudding, I think morning and afternoon are the same paper aren't they? I know school told us not to bring ours back until the end of lunch, by which time the afternoon kids would have left so no chance to discuss.

HST, school know little to nothing about the whole 11+ process or even what they examine, so I really don't know...

Puddinglane12 · 21/09/2017 11:25

Oh okay Rue, I just assumed they might change the papers to avoid information being passed on if morning DCC bump into the afternoon ones. I think I'm overthinking it all, 😂

So maths was tricky is the consensus. We gave DD the rest of the day off school. I think everyone from her school who sat the exam did the same, and the afternoon DCC took the morning off as well

RueDeWakening · 25/09/2017 15:18

Any thoughts on how Sutton will handle the errors in the maths SET? I know from speaking to an invigilator at one school that both morning and afternoon sessions were warned about the issue and what to expect. This was not the case at WHSG according to DD, who said she had to spend extra time figuring out the formatting issue (diagram inserted which threw off the multiple choice answer list apparently). 3 questions were affected overall, Q40 onwards.

Argh, am supremely pissed off!

Toomanycats99 · 25/09/2017 19:37

@RueDeWakening

I don’t know. My daughter sat it at whsg as well. I wonder if they will have to put more through to second stage to give them a better chance? I don’t know what they can do. Because it doesn’t seem as simple as morning vs. afternoon now. It’s different situations for the different locations as well. And presumably it’s not just the results on those wu stipend it’s all the questions after which people could not answer as they spent time figuring out the earlier ones?

Puddinglane12 · 26/09/2017 15:44

DD made it to round 2 of Sutton exams. Hopefully everyone has heard now. No matter what happens with next round, I'm proud of her.

Puddinglane12 · 26/09/2017 15:50

All the best to everyone

Toomanycats99 · 26/09/2017 16:18

We got through too

RueDeWakening · 26/09/2017 18:02

DD got through too, very proud of her. Could do without it being at Nonsuch on Saturday (we are walking distance to WHSG) but never mind!

Puddinglane12 · 26/09/2017 22:51

Congratulations and well done to both your DDs. Yes Rue, Nonsuch is a bit of a trek for us as well.

Puddinglane12 · 27/09/2017 19:49

Today 19:45 Puddinglane12

Does anyone know if all the girls are sitting round 2 in nonsuch? Or are some sitting it in Greenshaw?

RueDeWakening · 27/09/2017 20:00

Greenshaw doesn't require a 2nd stage test so I'd assume it's all happening at Nonsuch.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/09/2017 10:35

Great news on those making it through to round two. Well done!!

Toomanycats99 · 30/09/2017 17:12

Well don’t think we have made it through round 2!

Gileswithachainsaw · 30/09/2017 17:21

Oh no :( what makes you say that

Toomanycats99 · 30/09/2017 17:24

Missed tonnes of the maths out. Just too hard for her. You need to pass both maths and English separately I think to get through so cannot see it happening.

Gileswithachainsaw · 30/09/2017 17:33

:( sorry to hear that. Well done to her for getting as far as she did though Star

Toomanycats99 · 30/09/2017 18:21

Yeah she did well. However given how emotionally hard she has found the process over the last couple of months and how it has given her such a negative perception of her own abilities I’m not sure it won’t be for the best in the long run. I knew it was hard to get in but I under estimated how difficult the whole process is for them. She’s a young one as well so only just turned 10.

I am not sure I would choose to go through it again with my youngest.

RueDeWakening · 01/10/2017 14:51

DD said there were 27 questions in the maths in round 2, and she didn't manage the last 4 or 5 of them.

Anyone know when we get the results email?

Puddinglane12 · 02/10/2017 17:04

I'm not sure when results come out, but someone mentioned to me, around 13th of October

Puddinglane12 · 17/10/2017 12:17

I just checked my emails DD passed Sutton & nonsuch. A big relief, I can't wait to tell her. All the best to everyone waiting to hear

MRSMYM · 17/10/2017 12:55

In Detail.do we really need a tutor I am teaching her at home with bonds cgp will it be helpful ?

MRSMYM · 17/10/2017 12:56

puddinglane

Ruedewakening please reply

Toomanycats99 · 17/10/2017 13:16

As expected didn’t get through. Way over score in English but didn’t quite score enough in maths. (Given she says only answered 10 questions she was less far off than I thought though!)

RueDeWakening · 17/10/2017 15:37

MRSMYM we didn't have a tutor but worked at home with DD.

Stage 1 is multiple choice Maths and English - 2 papers, 45 minutes each. English is SPAG and comprehension.

Stage 2 is Maths where you write out your answers, and English extended writing (write a newspaper article, story, persuasive letter, diary or similar) - 2 papers, 45 minutes each again.

The local boys grammar schools offer familiarisation tests in May/June time which are very useful for finding out how your child scores against their cohort. I'd recommend booking a place on one (or more) of those in January or whenever the booking opens.
