That's it!
DS2 sitting his Kent test on Thursday and need some advice.

Very...

Why can't all schools be good so we don't have to do this...

FoxyinherRoxy · 14/09/2017 23:00

I live in an area where all the schools are good, but I stupidly thought it would
Be good for DC1 to have a stab at the GS. So then 2, 3 and 4 had to have the same chance. Now I might have three at one school and number 4 at a different one.

I'm an idiot.

Gileswithachainsaw · 14/09/2017 23:03

Oops...

Hard to know what to isn't it. My 2 are totally different I cant see dd2 being gs material bit as you say feel you have to give the same as chances

Love2dance · 15/09/2017 11:11

Good luck Foxy. I hope the weekend isn't too stressful. The one good thing about sitting exams is, wherever they end up, they will all have had pre-secondary and pre-GCSE experience of having to prepare for an exam, so maybe they won't be so fazed in future.

Actually 2 good things: We are already finding that the maths in particular and the practice over the summer has been good preparation for year 6.

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/09/2017 11:39

Hope all went well @foxyinherRoxy

Love2dance · 19/09/2017 12:56

Ditto. I didn't like to ask as I'm conscious that my venting/ranting might have stressed others especially DH who asked if we could talk about anything else other than schools and 11+ last night. Blush If it has, I'm sorry.
Hopefully pressure's off for now Foxy.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 19/09/2017 13:01

Hate the wait. Dd seems to have more or less forgotten it, except for the odd comment that it is nice not to do any practice papers. I think she thinks she might have passed. Would love to have the same confidence, she is very borderline but on an upwards trajectory.

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/09/2017 13:37

The wait is killing me....

For someome who never seemed that fussed about where she goes she now says "I wonder if I will get to go to the school" every time we drive past it...

Where was this desire and determination 6 months ago Hmm

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 19/09/2017 14:21

I'm sure we and they did as much as they could and they are only 10. Already dreading the GCSE wait, it will be even longer. I wish that she wasn't such a poor judge of her abilities then I might know which way to pitch my comments. I don't want to give her false hope yet I also don't want her to think that I don't think she could do it.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 19/09/2017 14:22

Should say GCSE wait will be for older sibling first, not a 6yr dread.

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/09/2017 14:52

Yy I know what you mean. Dr is hard to read too. Often underestimates herself and is happier therefore with poorer scores than she is capable of

Got 4 more years til next one then two after that til the whole gcse thing...

I'll have no hair..

Puddinglane12 · 19/09/2017 17:08

DC did Sutton SET today. Roll on next Tuesday when we find out if she made it to round 2

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/09/2017 17:30

Fingers crossed pudding

Poor sods having to do a second one..

RueDeWakening · 19/09/2017 20:26

Same here Pudding - we were at WHSG.

DD seems fairly calm about how it went. Playground gossip indicates the maths was hard and nobody we know finished the paper.

Puddinglane12 · 19/09/2017 21:29

Thanks Giles, poor sods Indeed. I don't think DD realises the results are due next Tuesday.

Rue, same venue for us too. Yes, I heard maths was very tricky. DD is not very forthcoming and I figured the less I know, the better for me at this stage... sigh!

All the best to everyone's DC

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/09/2017 21:30

WineGin For everyone!!!

FoxyinherRoxy · 19/09/2017 21:34

Thanks for the good wishes. It was 'ok'. (Basically she didn't cry at any part of the morning and I take that as successful. But she's not a crier so I'm not helping myself!)

Some have another round next week? 😵 What's going on there?

Love2dance · 20/09/2017 10:40

Pudding and Rue, what a pain. Wishing your DCC well for next Tuesday.

It is great to see everyone being so supportive of their DCC.

In contrast, a mum I know got her son to sit for a highly selective boys' grammar and apparently the maths was very hard and he didn't finish. The amazing thing is, she knew he wasn't ready and probably wouldn't do well, but wanted him to understand how hard selective/11+ exams can be Shock. She isn't a horrible, pushy parent and each to their own and all that, but I doubt it's going to help with his confidence...
I guess this this whole 11+ thing brings things out in people...Can't quite get my head around that one, but I suppose it's exam experience.
A bit early to clink my Wine with y'all, but I salute you all with my coffee instead.Brew.

And now, back to work.

RueDeWakening · 20/09/2017 15:46

Yep, Sutton starts off with the Selective Eligibility Test, and we find out if they pass that or not next Tuesday.

If they pass, then that qualifies you to list Greenshaw (partially selective mixed comp) and/or Wallington Boys on your CAF.

If you want to attend Wally Girls or Nonsuch, or Sutton Grammar or Wilsons, you get invited back to sit a second stage test which is next Saturday. Results of that will be out before the CAF deadline and only if you pass both can you list those schools on it.

ParadiseCity · 20/09/2017 15:49

Round here a lot of private school kids sit the 11+ as practice for entrance exams or 'to see how they compare to state kids having spent so much money on them so far ' Shock

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 20/09/2017 15:56

Round here a lot of private school kids sit the 11+ as practice for entrance exams or 'to see how they compare to state kids having spent so much money on them so far

And then apply to the grammar schools gain a place and forget to tell the grammar school that they are staying independent afterall.

Puddinglane12 · 20/09/2017 16:47

Rue, or anyone else who might know, I hear that in the past the email regarding wether our DC has made it to round 2 or not, has been earlier than publicised. Do you know if this was the case last year?

DD has now asked me when the results are due and if it will be sent in the post?

lilybookins · 20/09/2017 17:12

Yes Rue, lastyear I think we were supposed to get SET results on the fri, but think got an email on the wed before. Everyone got their result throughout that day (they seemed to arrive in batches, rather than at same time) via email

Toomanycats99 · 20/09/2017 20:04

We sat it at whsg yesterday as well and same results from all her friends. English ok, no one finished maths. I also spoke to her tutor today and she has had same feedback from all her pupils. My dd answered every question but only in the sense that she remembered her tutors advice and ticked a random box! - a fair few questions were done on this basis so to say she completed it would be over stating!

Puddinglane12 · 20/09/2017 21:23

Thanks lilyB. I would try not to keep refreshing my emails from Friday Shock

Interesting re maths paper, I wonder if it was the same in the morning and afternoon ( in terms of how difficult people found it and not finishing). We were in the morning
