Thanks swing

It is a relief that he's found a work ethic - I knew it was in there somewhere! School has been something of a struggle as he is so single-minded stubborn and has found many aspects of exams etc difficult partly from being on the autistic spectrum, which he (and we) only found out about a year ago, and partly because he steadfastly would not do any revision.

Good to hear that other ex year 11's are finding their way with voluntary work and the NCS programme.

Less than a month to go now - hope everyone gets the results they deserve for those who have worked hard, and good luck to those who haven't done as much revision for whatever reason. (Sorry your DS has been ill Isecond)

Dd1 has come back from her NCS activities very dirty and tired but she had an amazing time. She didn't know anybody on the trip but made friends with lots of people including a girl who will be going to her new sixth form. Dd2 turned 13 this week and has immediately morphed into a teenager, it's quite astonishing.

Two weeks ago we went on holiday to Centreparcs. One day I went out to the spa for a few hours and when I returned Dh and the 2 dd's had downloaded Pokemon Go. From that point all the people I saw walking about seemed to be holding their phones out. Dh has got very competitive with it and is on a higher level than the children.

swingofthings · 01/08/2016 19:05

That Pokemon thing is the best invention ever! My children are out and about and suddenly, walking has become fun. Even better, as they don't have enough data on their phone, they want to use mine (which is fine as got plenty and use little of it), so it has become the perfect mode of bribery! Yesterday, I said they could have my phone only if they sorted their bedrooms and to my amazement, not only had they done so, but done a brilliant job at it!

TheSecondOfHerName · 05/08/2016 18:47

Pokemon Go is helping DS1 with his sense of direction, so that's a bonus.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/08/2016 15:15

Anyone else waiting for Cambridge iGCSE results - out on Thursday!

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/08/2016 15:33

DS1 did two Cambridge iGCSEs but will get the results for those along with his other results on 25 August.

swingofthings · 07/08/2016 08:22

Good luck to those about to find out their results next week. I thought results were out on the 22nd! I guess confused 'week of' and actual day! It means that DD has only one day to go and enrol before we are off on our holiday. Official enrolment day is when we're away, but was told they would sort out a time for her to come in earlier, however, I assume earlier is still after GCSE results.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2016 08:35

dds igcse will come at the same time as all of her others. I'm still finger in my ears lalalalala.

Will make sure I'm around though to handhold for anyone who needs it next week.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/08/2016 08:38

Same here.

Not long now .........

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2016 08:55

wish I hadn't listened to it though. It's going round and round my head.

ShanghaiDiva · 07/08/2016 12:21

I didn't realise the results were later if you are in the UK.
Ds has iGCSE results on Thursday and AS maths on the 18th. He is back at school on Thursday, but will be able to log on in his lunch hour as results are out at 6am UK time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2016 14:10

I think it's more that schools like to give them out altogether Shanghai.

Icouldbeknitting · 07/08/2016 14:25

I'm thinking happy thoughts all of the time, I've joined DS in the land of denial. What's done is done, there's no point fretting over it now. The only real uncertainty here is maths, he had been doing so well but had a nightmare on the day. Or maybe he didn't - who knows? I'm hoping that even a half baked performance will have been enough to net him a C. Everything else will be what it will be but I'm hoping that I don't have to research appeals, for now I'm sticking my head in the sand and keeping my fingers crossed.

I have asked him if his merry band are planning on meeting at school or meeting afterwards and it sounds as if they would all rather scuttle in, grab their envelopes and run away.

TheSecondOfHerName · 07/08/2016 16:08

This is how I think results day should go: DS turns up promptly at 9am to collect his results. He immediately texts me to let me know how he has done. He then gives careful consideration to his future plans. If he narrowly missed the required grades for his chosen A-levels, then he takes this opportunity to meet with the heads of department for the A-level subjects he does qualify for, making a sensible and considered decision about what to do next. He then celebrates/commiserates with his friends.

This is how DS thinks results day should go: Lie-in till late morning, rock up to get results, see what everyone else is doing. If grades aren't quite enough (and possibly even if they are), then go to college.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2016 16:21

dd is going to go in right at the start, grab her results and run, hoping that no-one spots her.

la la la la.... goes back to humming to ones self.

Ah yes, the ninja technique.

I have no idea what DS thinks he is doing on The Day because that discussion is not happening yet. Lalalalala. What I'm certain of is that mum's taxi will be running (there is no bus outside term time) and there will be no texting as there is no phone coverage in school. What is likely is that I'll be sitting in the car park for an hour expecting the worst while he's inside shaking hands and chatting happily to whoever he runs into.

Sixth form enrolment is the following week, he has a timed slot so in my dreams it's in and out. I am considering joining the gym there so I can go in and make enquiries if enrolments are running late.

I genuinely cannot remember getting my O level results, I can remember picking up my A levels but the earlier set is a total blank.

AvengingGerbil · 07/08/2016 17:13

Nobody collected them in my day (old gimmer). You waited for the post. Second class. 3-5 days.

LockedOutOfMN · 07/08/2016 19:40

ShanghaiDiva Yes, I'm waiting for Thursday (11th) for my students' IGCSE results. Very very anxious for them all, but not as bad as A Levels.

11th will be more like early hours of the 12th for you, though, I expect (not sure of time difference). Good luck! Grin

littledrummergirl · 07/08/2016 21:22

I don't know what ds1 is doing. He asked me to take the day off work to be with him, if he wants me to go in with him I will, if he wants me to sit in the car then I will.
What I hope happens is that he picks up the grades he needs(6x A/A* including his chosen subjects) to stay at his school sixth form.
His school have teachers available on the day to talk through options though if something has gone wrong and his back up option is also viable.
He's nervous but his teachers have been positive so fingers crossed.
