The thread that got us all through the exams is now full so here's a new one to get us through the nervous wait for results

Well done to all our brave Y11s and wish every last one of them all the best

Thanks swing. Ds1 is also covered in bruises! I'm glad your dd had a good time as well.

Icouldbeknitting · 15/07/2016 08:37

Our soon to be ex-school have just posted the arrangements for results day on their website. I did wonder if they intended to tell us what was happening, whether we were supposed to divine it in some mystical way or (more likely) whether DS had received a letter but not passed it on. I can forget about that now and return to the important job of the day - writing the packing list. My husband looked at it last night and asked why the dog had got a longer list than anyone else.

derektheladyhamster · 15/07/2016 09:00

We're having lots of fun playing pokemon go together. We went for an hour and a half walk last night, it was brilliant fun as he was always obsessed with Pokémon when he was younger. I'm going to try to get him to go down to the beach later to catch some more 😀

Icouldbeknitting · 15/07/2016 09:28

Yes, I've been having flashbacks to the Pokemon years where he would follow me around the house telling me all about the evolution of Whatsit. There was no escape from it. As we've previously played Ingress we know the potential location of every Pokestop and gym in a five mile radius, plus the ones in three of the neighbouring towns. My five year old phone happily runs Ingress but will have nothing at all to do with PoGo. I am packing both battery packs just in case my phone has a change of heart when faced with DH with time on his hands.

catslife · 15/07/2016 10:22

We visited ex-school this week to view the Art and DT exhibitions. This is the only way we can view dds handwork as the DT models cannot be collected until the October half term as this is an exam board requirement (presumably to allow for remarks if needed).
We arrived back from a few days in France earlier this week. The schools are on holiday there so seemed perfectly normal to have dd with us. Back home it feels odd seeing dcs heading off in school uniform.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/07/2016 15:59

dds school haven't said anything about picking up results. I only know because I emailed them.

we have much travel planned now to pick up Pokemon! dd is even keen to go for a walk once the servers are back up.

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/07/2016 22:43

Hmm. Not sure now if we've been told we can pick up results in school from 8.00 or if I'm just remembering that from DS1.

DD dithering about whether to go with friends or on her own. She needs me for a lift regardless, school is ten miles away.

boys3 · 22/07/2016 18:46

hope all the DCs are enjoying the long break before sixth form / college. Have had the first Y12 trip bill in already Shock - although it is totally subject linked and does look rather good.

ExitPursuedByABear · 22/07/2016 22:03

DH and I have left DD home alone for a week whilst we do a small European tour. No info about results day that I've seen.

Yes she is having a party whilst we are away.

My friend is moving in for the night.

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/07/2016 23:54

DS1 is still dithering about A-levels at 6th form vs Level 3 diploma at FE college. I'm hoping that the results will help to clarify things.

Icouldbeknitting · 23/07/2016 08:40

We are on holiday in the middle of nowhere forty minutes from Durham. Pokémon have been caught, ice cream has been eaten. DS is having a wobble about results, part of him knows he's done well enough, part of him thinks that he's totally misjudged the papers and has failed massively. When we get home today (to my own bed - I can't wait) he'll have a catch up gaming session and then tomorrow he starts a week long music thing. That's another week where he won't really have time to worry.

ShanghaiDiva · 24/07/2016 07:29

We are back from our holiday and weather where we live in China is pretty hot and sticky - over 40 today.
Not really thinking about the results at the moment as ds will start at his new school before the results are even released. Am keeping him busy by encouraging him to clear out his bedroom - found some lovely artwork from when he was in Kindergarten!

situatedknowledge · 27/07/2016 19:06

I woke this morning, thinking that it was this week that was results week. I've been rattled all day. Goodness knows what the actual day will be like!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/07/2016 20:02

that's scary situated!

littledrummergirl · 27/07/2016 20:07

Ds1 is in the last week of ncs. He's had a fantastic time and made some new friends as well as had some amazing experiences. He was out of the door at 530 this morning on a fund raising mission for his groups chosen charity.
Although he's shattered he's not had much time to think about the results so far. We are away next week so not too much time for him to fret when we get back.

BitOutOfPractice · 27/07/2016 20:23

I have bought dd a little well done gift. It's a lovely silver bangle and written on it is "she believed she could, so she did". Hope I haven't tempted fate Shock

Can I just have a little boast on this thread (not very stealthy either). My ex-year 11 DS has got a job this summmer and has worked for the past 2 weeks, getting himself up at 7am and getting back at between 5 and 6 each afternoon.

Soooooooo proud of him and relieved that he can work at something that he enjoys!! This is the same lad who has done zilch revision and we have no idea what kind of results August 25th will bring.

He is getting a buzz from earning money, as well as being 'one of the workers'.

As a result, I am no longer so worried about results on 25th and what follows, as I know things can work out somehow, even without the best grades.

(Also relieved that he isn't spending the whole summer on Minecraft) Grin

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/07/2016 22:45

BitOutOfPractice that's a lovely idea.

timeforabrewnow good for him, that's really encouraging.

DS1 has been volunteering every morning this week at a church holiday club for young children.

I'm not feeling too stressed about the results, and neither is he. He did his best to catch up after a long illness, and what will be, will be.

He needs CCCC to meet the offer from the FE course for the vocational course he likes, and he was predicted A and B grades.
What frustrates me is that he is capable of doing A-levels, they would keep his options open for longer, and the sixth form (where he has an offer of BBBBBB) is much better equipped to meet his health needs.

I will wait and see what the results are. If he gets mostly A and B grades then he and I will be having a Talk.

HesMyLobster · 28/07/2016 03:20

Second I think your ds has done incredibly to overcome all the extra challenges and make it through exams, you must be so proud of him, no matter what the results.
*
Brew* way to go your ds, what a positive and productive way to spend the summer!

We are still on holiday in Florida, it has been wonderful but we fly home on Saturday and we're beginning to come out of the holiday bubble and start thinking ahead.
DD starts work experience next week, only a couple of days to begin with but she's hoping for more if it goes well. I just hope she can shake off the jet lag quickly!

BOOP that sounds really lovely, can I ask where it was from? It sounds like exactly the gift I've been looking for! Something appropriate, a bit inspirational, but not too corny!

BitOutOfPractice · 28/07/2016 05:44

Lobster if you google that phrase and "bracelet" then loads come up

I'm looking forward to the next three weeks. We've been away on holiday, DS will have finished his music course and the week day calendar is empty. I'll have weeks where I don't have to plan where I can slot in a meal around everyone's activities and I can drift through a week or two. I know that's the idea of holidays but I don't find travelling with three generations and a dog all that relaxing. I was glad to get home.

Timeforabrewnow Good for him. A good work ethic will take him a long way.

ExitPursuedByABear · 28/07/2016 11:58

I intend to buy DD a personalised number plate for the car she hasn't yet got.

Yes I know I will get slated for that on here, but I have one, DH has a cherished number plate from a car he had years and years ago, so just following in a family tradition.

Icouldbeknitting · 28/07/2016 13:15

I'll stand with you in the corner Exit because funnily enough yesterday I saw the numberplate that I would snatch up for DS if I ever had the chance. It is a music related thing and was on the car of a professional musician. I did the full on pointy finger when I saw it.

Icouldbeknitting · 28/07/2016 13:20

...and I just looked and I could get a later number in the series!

swingofthings · 28/07/2016 14:05

Ds1 is in the last week of ncs
Same here, I initially thought the whole was a bit of a laugh, in a very cheap adventure holiday, but these last two week of working on a local project has been fantastic and I'm really impressed with them all.

The group has decided to build a sensory garden for a residential home for disabled adults. They had to contact the council to find out about the homes, phone them all and sell their ideas, then of course start fundraising initiatives (can't believe how much they managed to raise just by doing sponsored walks/boot fairs etc...) and approach all the local garden centres/florists for donations.

They are doing a brilliant job at it and it is starting to look lovely. The residents love it and management are very pleased with what they are getting. Even better, DD has been desperate looking for volunteering experience or even better a job in a residential home for experience to put forward when she applies to medical school and so is hoping that she will make a good impression and they will take her on... the cherry on the cake is that it is only a street away from us (didn't know about it).

She too is shattered but I can definitely say that it's been the experience it was intended to be, she has learnt new skills, met new people and increased her confidence even more. I really really hope it is still in place in three years time so my son can do it too.

timeforabrewnow, well done on your son. I know exactly what you mean about seeing your son who gave you concerns about commitment to his future suddenly showing great maturity. I think it is quite common with boy, they go from nothing to everything! You should definitely be proud and not ashamed at all to share it.
