DS did brilliantly thank goodness - he worked his socks off and really earned it. Now playing football with friends. Don't know what to get to celebrate though.

ExitPursuedByABear · 25/08/2016 12:05

Well done OYBBK's DD.

hotdiggedy · 25/08/2016 12:06

Well done! Sorry to the poster who is in an area with not very good schools but well done to him on his grades!

MsMermaid · 25/08/2016 12:08

Hot that sounds great. We'll done to your ds. It's very impressive that he's improved so much since last year.

Step well done to your ds as well. It's a relief that school will let him resit his English as well as doing A levels.

There are a disproportionate number of As and A*s on MN. The majority of my form have grades in the B -E range, and the ones I'm most proud of are the kids who were C/D borderline and pulled most of them up to Cs.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/08/2016 12:11

It's kind of why I was reluctant to post dds grades. Because everyone's achievements are worthwhile celebrating. It's not actually the grades that matter, it's the fact that they can move on to the next stage with pride at their efforts.

needastrongone · 25/08/2016 12:11

Wow! Amazing results. Fantastic, brilliant stuff. Chuffed to bits for the DC.

DS did well too, 6 A's, 4 A's, 1xB, and.... a C in German. Ha, he's over the moon with German, as he expected to get a D, he's no linguist. One of the A's is worth a re-mark, as he's one mark from an A, and it's English Language.

The fly in the ointment was Ad Maths. He got a U. But most of the class did, from the information we got at school. It was the mega hard paper from OCR, there wasn't the A^ grade option.

The maths grade has shaken him up, even though he knew it went badly, but he's determined to ensure he succeeds at A Level, so a great attitude.

MsMermaid · 25/08/2016 12:11

Madison those are very good results. It's even more impressive if the school isn't great. Hopefully the college will be better for him.

SignedUpAgain · 25/08/2016 12:15

Does anyone know if its a bad idea to only do 3 AS and ultimately 3 for A-level?
My DS got good results, ranging from A* to C, but school have said he has enough points to get into 6th form, he doesnt have enough points to allow him to do 4 AS levels.

Will this be something he will regret down the line, he is doing Maths, Physics and Biology, but had also wanted to do a 4th AS level.

user1471516728 · 25/08/2016 12:16

Mine got a B, 3 Cs and the rest were Ds and Es, but the Cs were in Maths and English so no re-takes and he more than covered his college entry requirements so for him that's a great result and we're really pleased.

Fabulous for those of you with all As but do try to be a bit sensitive about others as well.

Jetcatisback · 25/08/2016 12:18

Shiney she is 16 marks off a C overall, but paper 2 she got something like 71 out of 200. She knows where she went wrong and is gutted Sad

MsMermaid · 25/08/2016 12:18

I know what you mean Kitten. People kept asking me at school today how my dd has done, but I didn't want to take anything away from the kids who were celebrating their results right there. As long as they can get onto their chosen courses they've done well IMO. And I only saw 2 pupils who haven't got the minimum grades they needed for their future plans, they were on their way to speak to the careers advisor and then on to the college to find a backup plan.

needastrongone · 25/08/2016 12:18

Ultimately Signed, only 3 A levels count for Uni places, and A Levels are such a step up, it may be the better choice, long term?

How to re-marks happen please? Not sure we will bother, but DS is one mark off an A* in English Language, so nothing to lose by a re-mark.

MsMermaid · 25/08/2016 12:20

We'll done to your ds user, what's he going to do at college?

TheOldMonkey · 25/08/2016 12:20

Very happy here, DD has got 2 A, 7 A's and 2 B's. Most importantly, she has A's and A's in the 3 main subjects she wants to take at A Level. Surprisingly, a B in Music which is going to be her fourth subject and which was her best subject, predicted an A* in.

Some incredible grades achieved at DD's school which reflect brilliantly on the teaching staff too.

MsMermaid · 25/08/2016 12:23

Signed we'd recommend just doing 3 A levels with those results. Especially with the A levels he's chosen. He will need to do a lot of work on the 3 he's doing, so having the extra time to work on them will be beneficial. It's better to have 3 good AS levels than 4 less good grades.

user1471516728 · 25/08/2016 12:24

Thank you Mermaid, he's doing Engineering level 2, it's a one year course equivalent to GCSE's A-C (5 I think) so as long as he passes he will have plenty of A-C equivalents, he can then go on to the A-level standard B-Tech or into an apprenticeship so plenty of options open to him still. He's very young (actually and mentally) so needs a bit of space to grow up still.

eatingtomuch · 25/08/2016 12:26

My DS got the four A's, five B's and a C. During mocks he had grades that fluctuated from U's to A's. He has had a turbulent 18 months and has been diagnosed with life long illness that impacted on revision and exams.

Prior to diagnoses he was predicted A's & A*. We are delighted with what he has achieved. He is able to remain at his school 6th form, which at Christmas was not looking possible.

A huge congratulations to all the DC on their GCSE results.

MsMermaid · 25/08/2016 12:27

One of my form is going to do that too user, it looks really good.

user1471516728 · 25/08/2016 12:29

I hope so Mermaid, his school is pretty high-achieving and I think it will be good for him to be with others of his own level and hopefully his self-esteem will improve. I think half his problem has been in thinking he can't do things so not wanting to try.

hotdiggedy · 25/08/2016 12:35

Agreed user. As long as they can go on to do something that is suitable for them it's all good. Is it possible to see online the grade boundaries to see how far you were from getting the next grade up?

swingofthings · 25/08/2016 12:36

2As, 8As and 1B*
Same here! Very pleased with results but I think DD was expecting a few more As. She was 2 points away fire two of them. The B is a shock though. That was in PE. She got a D at the exam (A at the practical). What is odd is she got an A at both mock exams and thought she had done well at this one so might discuss whether to have it remarked.

hotdiggedy · 25/08/2016 12:36

Ms mermaid are you a teacher in secondary school?

EllenJanethickerknickers · 25/08/2016 12:37

So pleased to hear so many great results from your DC!

DS2 got A in maths, 3 Bs, 4 Cs (including that pesky English Grin ) and 1 D! So, so delighted! My lovely DS2 with ASD and an EHCP has done brilliantly and got his place in college with room to spare. I'm so happy. Grin After last week's stellar A levels from DS1 it's been a great couple of weeks.

MsMermaid · 25/08/2016 12:39

Yes hot. I am Grin

It's been a tough year with dd1 doing her GCSEs and my form doing them too. They all need such different approaches, some need to relax a bit, others need to be pushed. I'm glad this year is over tbh.

chocolateworshipper · 25/08/2016 12:40

hotdiggedy

Not all A*s and As here. One A, which we are over the moon with, some Bs and Cs, and some less than C. The most important thing is that she did better than she expected
