EllenJane that's wonderful. Very happy for you. We've had a busy few months!

raspberryrippleicecream · 25/08/2016 12:46

So pleased everyone seems happy and can carry on with their plans.

maxtrue · 25/08/2016 12:47

hotdiggetty

Completely agree most kids and parents are more than happy with just passing!!

DD passed everything...even German!
2 x A's, some B's and the rest C's....we are ecstatic with these results.

My very good friends dd did not pass anything, she has struggled with school all along, she is gutted and I feel terribly sorry for them both.

This is tough and real for many of us. Just glad we didn't pay a thing for our grades either.

maxtrue · 25/08/2016 12:49

Quick question - on the paper it did not give the maths mark just a grade - any idea if we can see the marks anywhere?

user1471516728 · 25/08/2016 12:52

Yes Hot we have all the marks so I will have a look at the grade boundaries and if any of the Ds were almost Cs I might give a remark a go, otherwise we'll leave it and put our energy into supporting him at college.

user1471516728 · 25/08/2016 12:55

Hi Max, last year the school got the maths marks the day after everything else (no marks for us either) so if you contact them they should be able to let you have them.
So sorry for your friend's DD, she needs to get to her local college where I'm sure they will be able to advise.

needastrongone · 25/08/2016 12:57

Well done Max, what a shame about your friends DD. I bet she has some amazing skills that will come to the fore, even if they are not academic. DD is more like this, and it's her turn for GCSE's next year, but it doesn't mean I am less proud of her. What do you mean about paying for grades?

sn0wdr0p4 · 25/08/2016 12:58

Very happy and relived as DD was convinced she had done badly. Her results are a great improvement on her Mocks.( In the Chemistry mock she ran out of the exam crying )
We are happy that she has the grades she needed to do her A levels. She has 3As, 5Bs , 1C and 1D.
I still can't seem to settle and do anything meaningful though! My stomach is still churning. DD is at McDonalds with her friends. We are off to look at laptops later and have a family meal to celebrate.
Well done to everyone's DC.

needastrongone · 25/08/2016 13:00

Actually, it's often MORE about DD, as she does a sport to a competitive level, and our lives revolve around this, I am glad DS has had a chance to shine for once Smile

littledrummergirl · 25/08/2016 13:05

Well done to everyone's dc who got what they need.
Ds1 was under pressure as needed minimum A to do each subject at A level.
He got 4A*, 5A a C and a D(actually got a u in one module).
The A* were in the subjects he wants to continue, and he will be staying on at his sixth form so all smiles here.
None of us are worried about the two lower grades (languages)although every time he gets big headed we can now say "remember the u you scored... Grin".
Very pleased for him.

SignedUpAgain · 25/08/2016 13:07

Thanks Mermaid thats helpful and kind of what i hoped someone would say.
Also he does sport, at a very high level, so this is hopefully best all round for him, in terms of organising his time.

Well done everyone else's DC - its hard when all you hear are all the A* type headlines and Facebook posts. I thought my DS results were good, so couldn't believe they weren't enough to do 4 AS levels.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 25/08/2016 13:14

Thank you, raspberryripple! I did take note of your DDs results, brilliant!

Hotdiggedy, I'm just as proud of my DS2 as I am of my DS1! Very different DC but both have managed to get what they need to progress. And if they hadn't, we'd have found a plan B. Smile

eatingtomuch · 25/08/2016 13:16

Signedup^^ a number of schools encourage 3 A levels. This is all the universities want. As long as he is confident they are three A levels he wants to do, there is no problem. The only concern would be if he dislikes any of them he will not have one he can drop.

SignedUpAgain · 25/08/2016 13:23

•eatingtomuch* it must be his school then, because all the information said you had to do 4 AS, and its like they are giving him special favour to just do the 3.
Actually it will suit him perfectly, as he was struggling to even pick a 4th option!
The 3 he has picked are his favourites and probably the only ones he would be capable of doing at A-level.

catslife · 25/08/2016 13:27

dd is enrolling at sixth form tomorrow. She was a bit undecided on the 4th AS level subject, but I think they are now moving to a system where 3 A levels will be the norm for most pupils.
Also forgot to say about the ICT resit. This was a U in January because grades below C aren't possible, but it has now increased to a C. This is also a big relief.

MrSlant · 25/08/2016 13:29

snOwdrOp I'm like you, I can't settle to anything. Just feel really weird and lost! DS1 did amazingly well, GCSE's really seemed a step too far for him (ASD/ADHD/Dyspraxia) at one point but, astonishingly, he has just come out of school with 2 As, 4 Bs and the crucial C in English as well as a merit in BTEC engineering and the Welsh Bacc having worked really hard for the last 6 months. He should have more than enough for our plan A and I have no idea what to do with myself now I don't need to scrabble around phoning places and working on plans B, C and D Grin.

Very relieved but deflated feeling! I have to admit when I saw his A's (one in physics!!!) I burst into embarrassing snotty tears in the playground and had to hide in the car before any other teenagers saw.

eatingtomuch · 25/08/2016 13:29

Signedup a number of my friends DC did three AS this year and their end of year results have been on average better than those who did four.

My ds school they all do four, but I'm not sure it's the best option. The only reason I'm not pushing him to do three is because he is torn between two choices. If by xmas he has decided he doesn't like one I'll be happy for him to drop it.

MsMermaid · 25/08/2016 13:36

Both dds school and mine recommend starting with 4 subjects and then dropping the one they like least either at Christmas in y12 or at the end of y12. A lot of subjects are now linear anyway so AS levels are becoming less common. We've found that we've got more pupils choosing maths this year (my subject) because we're still doing AS levels so it's their 'extra' choice.

NicknameUsed · 25/08/2016 13:37

What is an A^ as opposed to an A*?

DD is exceptionally well 5A*s, 3As, 2Bs

Her school also recorded the best results ever with an 80.4% pass rate, and this is just a bog standard comprehensive school (but a rather good one)

Well done to everyone today.

Icouldbeknitting · 25/08/2016 13:42

Congratulations, there are some fantastic marks on here (miniLobster, miniKitten and minRaspberry in particular).

Long term readers may recall the maths paper made of failure, woe and handwringing - that was an A. His German that was predicted to be a D just before Christmas ended up as a B. In the main school's predictions were bang on, including the A* in music where he would have been upset with an A.

He did have a few minutes utter panic, when he walked in this morning one of the assistant headteachers told him that he had to go and see the exams officer. Before he found her he'd decided that she was going to tell him about his string of Us whereas what she really wanted was a copy of his music certificates. Enrollment is next week, he has A/A* in the things he wants to study so it's all good.

Facebook and the like don't show the truth, you hear the good bits but no-one posts about their blocked drains and how the bananas have all gone bad again. It makes you feel as if you are the only one with problems and that's not true.

starfleet · 25/08/2016 13:42

Well done to everyone's DC's!

Brilliant achievements and here is WineWinefor you all!!!

DS has 9 A's and 2 B's.

One of his teachers has already indicated that one of his B's is not consistent looking at the split over the papers so is putting in for a re-mark or whatever it is they do now! I am so proud of him.

Wellywife · 25/08/2016 13:44

Very proud of two local DDs. One got 7Bs, 2Cs and a D. She was in lower sets at local (excellent) secondary modern.

Icouldbeknitting · 25/08/2016 13:46

MrSlant I'm so pleased for him and for you. Plan A it is then.

HeyBells · 25/08/2016 13:46

Well done to everyone, especially those who've overcome adversity and done well and got what they needed. It's lovely to read so many positive results. As DS is away, I haven't seen him but he's texted and is happy - as he should be. Mostly proud of the hard work that paid off.

Signed, I think most of the schools we visited for sixth form were only allowing 3 subjects going forward unless they were doing further maths or got lots of A*.

boys3 · 25/08/2016 13:48

well done to all the DCs. DS2 pleased, mix of A* / A s for his final a level choices. Slighly odd result in one subject for the full cohort, not just him which is being looked into. Very positive overall though. Phew!!!!!!!!!! Wine awaits.
