Thanks. Smile She is really pleased as she didn't hear back from the first place but persevered. So glad she has got something good.

dd is going to Exeter in the Autumn as she still has a shed load of exams in this month.

My oldest daughter is a tour guide at Bristol Open day. Grin What department is your dc visiting nutty?

nuttymango · 01/06/2016 13:44

DS is going to look at psychology.

teta · 01/06/2016 13:46

We are doing Bristol too.Vet. school.

LittlehumHams · 01/06/2016 13:51

Have a good day. Wear flat shoes. Lots of hills!

nuttymango · 01/06/2016 14:03

Thanks for the tip. We live quite near to Bristol but haven't been before.

ono40 · 01/06/2016 15:25

Well done to Littlehums DD.

Spoke too soon here - DS has gone into 'I'm screwed' mode and is panicking. Bring on the Bach Flower Remedy Brew Cake

Horsemad · 01/06/2016 17:53

Well done to your DD LittlehumHams, what a brilliant work experience. Smile

LittlehumHams · 01/06/2016 18:41

Thanks. This is such a kind thread.

Must buy some of that Bach Remedy. Hope it works on your ds ono. These exams are stretching over such a looooooong period of time now.

HSMMaCM · 01/06/2016 19:49

The Bach remedy works for me. I started taking it when DD didn't want to.

OP posts:
nuttymango · 01/06/2016 20:27

DS uses the Bach remedy, I think I should as well.

ono40 · 02/06/2016 15:50

I have discovered....drum roll please.....Rescue Remedy in chewing gum form! It is hideously expensive at £4 for a pack of 20 but DS likes to take gum into exams to help him concentrate so he can take this! Holland and Barrett.

HSMMaCM · 02/06/2016 16:10

Thanks Ono . Might try that.

bigTillyMint · 02/06/2016 18:00

I got DD Rescue Remedy sweets (come in a cute tin) for her exams - they seemed to go down well!

Littlehum, the WE sounds great.

Must ask my friend if her DD is doing tours at one of the uni's DD is going to visit!

LineyReborn · 03/06/2016 05:13

DS isn't keen on doing university tours yet as he is another one in 'I'm screwed' mode, and regards visits to universities as setting himself up for disappointment. In other words, he wants to avoid a 'Let's have a look at what you could have won' situation.

If he gets any offers after September, we'll focus on Offer Days, I think.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 03/06/2016 09:26

Offer days sound like a good alternative opportunity Liney.
Feeling a bit daunted ATM by how DD is going to choose her 5 to apply for.
I guess it can still be a slightly random process (though we are trying to read up both online and looking at some Uni guides) - but hopefully not as much as it was in my day.
DD was joking that I chose places near the sea and she's going for places that aren't too hilly - it's very flat where we live and she was a bit unsure about all the hills on a recent visit to Sheffield (with geography field trip)

bigTillyMint · 03/06/2016 10:05

Ah yes Sheffield - built on 7 hillsGrin It never bothered me, and I came from somewhere relatively flat. I think it's supposed to be good for Geography degrees. Well it was back in the Dark Ages!

nuttymango · 03/06/2016 10:20

DS has just ruled out Sheffield, he had others he preferred the look of for course content that are nearer to home and didn't see the point in going further away.
DS's good friend is going to the local university because they need to live at home, DS has now decided to put it as their insurance choice but it's right at the bottom of the league tables. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 03/06/2016 10:31

I hope DD will consider how close to home options are, but it's proving difficult to get that consideration on to her radar.
I think it's pretty important that she can get home reasonably easily and affordably and we can all see each other once in a while.
Sheffield would be good for that I think as we're on the east coast mainline and it's also good for Zoology I believe which is what DD wants to do.
I'm trying to encourage DD to consider visiting despite the hills!

bigTillyMint · 03/06/2016 10:47

I know of quite a few recent/current students at Sheffield and they love it. Great student life. And I'm sure the teaching/learning is good tooWink

Fairenuff · 04/06/2016 10:00

DS has plans to look at 3 and we will go with him because we enjoy the days out and seeing what the local area is like, etc. It also helps us remember details of the different courses on offer as I remember with dd, she got quite confused after a while - 'Was that the one with the huge canteen but tiny rooms?' sort of thing Grin

Also DS is likely to be swayed by his GF who is also looking at unis and I want to be sure that he picks the course that is right for him, not just one that is close to his GF.

Revision has come to a halt over half term as he only has one more exam to do next Wednesday. I'm going to wake him in a minute and insist suggest that he starts looking over his notes. Five days and they will all be over him, plenty of time to laze in bed after exams.

GetAHaircutCarl · 05/06/2016 08:24

Did anyone visit Exeter.

Lots of DC's mates went and liked it. We couldn't go as DS still knew deep in exams and DH is away.

Horsemad · 05/06/2016 08:46

I've been to Exeter when DH did a course at the Uni but it was pretty DC and I can't remember it very well at all, sorry Blush

Neither of mine considered it which I'm thankful for as it is miles away!

Horsemad · 05/06/2016 08:47

Pretty DC = pre DC!

teta · 05/06/2016 09:02

We had a party here, as I think it was dd's turn to host one.It was a beautiful evening so they had a barbeque and drank a lot of Malibu.Followed by a mass sleepover.Theres also been a couple of other social occasions.I really don't mind because dd1 revises intensively and doesn't waste time and I think socialising is good for her.

I just wish my 11 year old knew how to revise for his Common Entrance exams next week.Anything distracts him and he wonders off. He's dyslexic and disorganised and often won't do what I tell him to do.

bigTillyMint · 05/06/2016 09:42

Malibu! That brings back memoriesGrin

Anyone got any tips on how to get DD to sort her notes and tidy her room post-revision/AS exams? I keep telling her that if she leaves it, she will find it really hard to remember what she does/doesn't need and she won't have any space for next years notes, but it is falling on very deaf earsHmm
