Hopefully everyone is finishing off AS exams.

Sorry to hear about the dancing HSM. Her boyfriend sounds so lovely.

Have a good summer everyone.

HSMMaCM · 25/07/2016 18:07

Sugar - chicken tikka masala Grin. It's funny how they reassess what's important.

SugarPlum! How long has she been away now? Still in the "honeymoon" period?!

DD and her mates are planning next summer...

SugarPlumTree · 25/07/2016 19:42

I did smile at the chicken tikka masala - she was hormonal and sounded really quite put out !

5 weeks now BTM. It is still the honeymoon period I think but she is settling into it pretty well as far as I can tell. She's certainly much happier now and we get her lovely side minus the mess ! We've agreed she'll come back for a couple of weeks in October which will be good as she'll have started her A level by then and I'll be able to monitor progress . Where is your DD planning to go?

One thing I have found is that she does now appreciate what we did for her and she has offered to cook some of the time when back to make things easier for me - nearly fell over the dog when I read that text on a dog walk Grin.

bigTillyMint · 25/07/2016 21:50

SugarPlum, that is so good that she is happier and you are getting her lovely side. Am rather Envy of no mess - DD seems to have spread out everywhere in the last month or so that she has been off.
She is looking to apply for Sheffield/Leeds/Manchester/Bristol/Birmingham/Liverpool but not sure what yet (Sociology edging ahead of Eco ATM!)

Can you send her a recipe for CTM?Wink

SugarPlumTree · 26/07/2016 07:14

I did BTM, a Jamie Oliver one an apparently it did the job ! Had she got s favourit amongst those places ? It has suddenly got very serious now hasn't it, I guess they're all thinking personal statements?

DD did ask what she has to get for her A level next year to be able to go to University if she wants to so sounds like she is vaguely thinking about it. I'm really pleased as she got a Distinction Merit on her BTEC which gives her 160 UCAS points. Her first project came back as just having scraped a pass plus she wanted to drop out at least 3 times a month so this is a great result in the circumstances.

bigTillyMint · 26/07/2016 08:30

That is a fantastic result, SugarPlum - well done to your DD!

Mine (who turned 17 this morning, honking into the looGrin) seemed to think Sheffield was favourite for Sociology when we went to visit (plus lowest entry requirements - could that be the real reason?!) but she hasn't been to Open Days at Bristol, Birmingham or Liverpool yet. And not sure about which course either!

SugarPlumTree · 26/07/2016 12:21

Thanks BTM, she pulled it round well in the end.

Happy Birthday to your DD, hope she feels better soon Grin At least she has ideas about where she wants to go, the course is a minor detail sort of at this point !

JugglingFromHereToThere · 27/07/2016 22:07

DD has messaged from Finland that she's having a good time in her camp week (first week was with host family - also good) and "everyone is lovely"

And exciting news for DS that he's been offered a place for the coming year with Britten Sinfonia Academy - so about 6 residential weekends with input from professional musicians of Britten Sinfonia and with accompanying concerts, and working together with all the other young musicians of the Academy.
Sounds good huh? - and I'm sure it will be a great experience for him Smile

HSMMaCM · 27/07/2016 23:05

Juggling. Looking good for both of them then. Excellent news.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 27/07/2016 23:34

Thanks HSM - is very encouraging.

Now it's just my life I need to sort out! Wink

bigTillyMint · 28/07/2016 07:45

Juggling that sounds like great news for both your DC!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 28/07/2016 11:00

Thanks Tilly - they do seem to be having a good summer so far .....

SugarPlumTree · 28/07/2016 13:32

That's great for both of them Juggling Smile I am in the same boat on the needing to sort my life !

Auntpetunia2015 · 07/08/2016 20:36

Just logging in as you'd fallen off my watch list. Not long now to results day. We're away at the time so it's agreed his girlfriend will pick up his results and then message him

HSMMaCM · 07/08/2016 20:52

DD is picking up results for about 5 people

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 07/08/2016 23:31

We'd carefully planned our hols to be here this Thursday as that's when everyone thought the results would be but for some reason they seem to be a week later than usual. So one of DDs friends who didn't get caught out by this is picking up about 5 sets.

Today's paper said that unis are short of applicants this year and are already offering clearing places and incentives to choose them - eg 'bogof', masters course free for students with 3 As enrolling on a bachelors degree. I don't suppose this applies to BEng/MEng!

bigTillyMint · 08/08/2016 01:10

DH has been a sec Hof6th, DH and now HT for years and years and it is usually the 3rd Thurs in Aug as we alwaus have to be back for them! However, loads of DDs friends are away and I am wonderin if this is a wise move as they will get longer to decide which subject to drop Confused

HSMMaCM · 08/08/2016 06:35

We were initially told 11th August and then it was changed to 18th. I had it in the calendar twice for a while, which was confusing!

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 08/08/2016 08:34

Really? That's weird that the school would think that it would be so early - never been that early IMHO in the last 20 years Grin

We are not talking about results here, though DD may be thinking about it!

dingit · 08/08/2016 08:46

I'm thinking about it. But only because you lot bought the subject up! And I'm on holiday! Angry

bigTillyMint · 08/08/2016 12:55

Snap!

HSMMaCM · 08/08/2016 14:29

BTM - I suspect it was a typo rather than the school deciding the markers would be super speedy this year Grin.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 08/08/2016 14:54

It was Aug 13 last year and 14th the year before, so 2nd Thursday. That's why we were told 11th originally this year. (GCSEs of course are later)

HSMMaCM · 08/08/2016 14:59

That explains it Errol. Thanks
