Good on your DS Ono. Quite Shock about the shot in leg bit.

bigTillyMint · 29/06/2016 07:35

Crikey ono, I have lived in South London for nearly 30 years (the last 17 only up the road from NC) and I have never seen anyone being shot. Or stabbed. Or attacked in any way for that matterShock
We thought that London Stays rally was cancelled (DD had been thinking to go) but then it was on the newsConfused Good on him for going.
I have known quite a few Goldsmiths students - all very happy there.

Would one Scottish granny (who lived most of her life in Liverpool!) count to go for a Scottish passport?

SugarPlumTree · 30/06/2016 06:50

There is a FB group called Scorntists for the EU who have formed to discuss the implications. I'm.keeping a close eye as this is the route DS likely to go. I'm going to contact the Upper school and ask if they will review their decision to drop German from September, I think our children will need it in the future. DS will be a bit hard to.persuade this too though as has dyslexia and doesn't find that languages come naturally.

I reckon so BTM as long as she was born there, that'a how the Irish one works I think? I'm currently trying to shore up my second nationality so the DC cam then have a passport. Berlin aren't making it easy so I suspect there have been rather a lot of applications.

DD has decided if she can't pull ofl living and working in Asia then she's going to look at Canada. She's adamant her long term future will not be in Europe. One of her Dutch frrinds gave her a mouthful over Skype the other day.

DH snd I are evaluation our options. He was at University on Aberdeen and has always talked about moving up there. Problem is he is likely to be the only one of us without a EU passport if the children's ones go to plan. His Irish Granny was born in London unfortunately. I predict this country is going to see something of s brain drain in the future.

Newcastle today - excited Grin

Horsemad · 02/07/2016 09:02

ROFL, just heard on radio there's a Naked Cycle Ride in Newcastle today!!! Now THAT will be interesting! GrinGrin

bigTillyMint · 02/07/2016 10:01

Eeeeuuuuuwww and brŕrrrrrrr, Horse Grin

HSMMaCM · 02/07/2016 11:23

Year 12 prom last night. Not sure why they have one in year 12. I think it's just to boost the numbers because it's joint with year 13. They have an unwritten rule that year 12s wear short dresses and year 13 long dresses.

Off to look at cars with DD today! And then the boy who's just a friend is coming over.

No noticeable sign of any work being done, but DD assures me she's a hard worker Grin.

Newcastle was great; nice campus and a brilliant History talk, the best out of all I've seen.

Didn't see any naked cyclists, thank goodness - was rather breezy so they would have been very cold!! Grin

Is anyone else going to Sheffield in a couple of weeks or has looked there already? DS started looking there as he would be able to stay in halls all his years there (ASD doesn't make him ideal for houseshares). Having looked online at all the info about the university and the course he is getting very excited about potentially going there - it looks great to me too.

bigTillyMint · 03/07/2016 09:08

Odd, I went to Sheffield and it was so great! My friends DD just went up (her dad went there too) and she loved it. DD is interested, but doesn't want to go on a Saturday and miss workConfused
I am going to double check with her again as all the uni visits are going to be on Saturdays in September/October!

Horsemad · 03/07/2016 09:18

Odd, DS is visiting on the 16th.

bigTillyMint · 03/07/2016 10:32

Odd and Horse, DD has said yes Shock so we will be there too! I'm not excited!

OddBoots · 04/07/2016 07:11

Great. :) Years back I used to visit a few friends who were students in Sheffield (and spent too many nights in Dempsey's!), we never really discussed how good the university itself was/is.

bigTillyMint · 04/07/2016 09:15

Odd, that must be after my time - I don't remember a Dempsey's! I spent all my time in the Leadmill and the Limit or Josephine's or Romeo and Juliet's or Roxy's on the infamous Pyjama JumpGrin

We had a great weekend in South Wales visiting the Uni of South Wales where DD - and I - loved their Wildlife Biology course. Sounds so exciting Smile
DD thought the location would work well for her too with a variety of linked campuses, beautiful countryside to explore, and the city of Cardiff nearby for nights out and/or cultural opportunities.
We went with friends and stayed in Brecon Beacons Youth Hostel for two nights. On Sunday we even managed a walk up a couple of hills!
We had a great time - so encouraging
So relieved DD has found somewhere she likes that I could really see working for her too.
And we like that it's in the top ten for student satisfaction overall.

I'd still like to visit Sheffield and maybe a couple of others in September after DD has had a look through all options. But I fear she may have already decided that Sheffield is too hilly! LOL

bigTillyMint · 04/07/2016 11:00

Juggling, Uni of South Wales sounds great, especially if she likes it!

Just sayin...
If your DD likes to be in the countryside, then Sheffield is 20mins on a bus out to the Peak DistrictWink

JugglingFromHereToThere · 04/07/2016 11:58

Yes, exactly the kind of reason I think she might like it Tilly, plus again high student ratings and some interesting courses.
But apparently hills are OK in the countryside but not in cities Grin
TBF it is as flat as a pancake around here so I guess that's what she's used to!

LittleHoHum · 04/07/2016 16:17

Three Open Days done, one to go this weekend.

The third one was a bit of a nightmare as the mainline railway station lost all power and the whole city ground to a complete halt. Eventually escaped by walking a mile out of the city, catching a bus to a nearby airport, hopping on a train, then the underground, followed by a taxi and the last train out of London to the south west. It was like one of those comedy films.

She doesn't need to take a flipping test. Anyone escaping from that place had to have real initiative.

ono40 · 05/07/2016 17:28

Hi everyone I've been missing in action at an overseas conference for work. DH and DS went to Newcastle on Saturday and both loved it. Horse they said the history talk was the best they've heard so far as well. If you keep seeing a 6ft skinny lad with overgrown hair (he's allegedly growing it) that's him!

They went to Durham as well but preferred Newcastle. Anyone off to Southampton on Saturday? DS is going with a friend, not me!

Horsemad · 05/07/2016 17:38

DS & DH are going to Soton on Saturday. I'll probably go but go shopping as I've been to the Uni a few times.

LittleHoHum · 05/07/2016 21:30

dd3 is going to Southampton on Saturday. Not sure who she is going with yet.

Is it easy to get around Southampton. Any tips?

ono40 · 06/07/2016 09:26

Hi everyone, if you are travelling to open days by rail, there is a 20% discount on all railcards until 18th July www.railcard.co.uk/ (code is summer) - definitely worth having as it has saved us a fortune so far.

Horsemad · 06/07/2016 09:38

LittleHoHum, they had free bus service running for open day visitors 2 yrs ago which was very helpful.

We stayed overnight the night before at a Premier Inn and just walked across the road to catch the bus to the Uni.

Soton is a small city, easily navigated. Smile

teta · 06/07/2016 19:17

Thanks Ono40 I've just bought a railcard for £24 - brilliant.Had teachers meeting the other night where we were given the forecasts for next year and advised what to do next.Dd has written up her EPQ in about 3 days as it was due in today. So much stress due to Open Days,2 field trips, internal exams, orchestral evenings and then the Epq.Which incidentally doesn't appear to be at all important for Vet School.Dd's developed Acne for the first time ever due to all this stress so we had to get some antibiotic cream from the Gp today.

bigTillyMint · 06/07/2016 19:35

Aww poor DD, teta.

Was just going to ask about EPQs - DD was adamant she wasnt doing one (don't blame her) so I was surprised when she said some friends are doing them. Apparently they are worried they haven't worked hard enough this year Confused
