Did you get your passport stamped horse ?

teta · 25/06/2016 18:16

Me too Horsemad. But is it my age or does everything look different?

Auntpetunia2015 · 25/06/2016 18:27

Teta do you mean Liverpool looks different? It certainly does a bustling hub with clean buildings and lots going on. All thanks to eu money which is why we wanted to stay in.

Hope you both had a good time.

Horsemad · 25/06/2016 22:21

It looks brighter than I remember!

bigTillyMint · 26/06/2016 08:10

Liverpool city centre has been dramatically improved since the 80's. And they obviously have a clear-thinking electorate too. I am hoping to get DD up there for a look at the uni in September.

"In my Liverpool home...tra la laaaa"

Ladies welcome back to the best city in the country soon to be annexed to Ireland and Europe if we can sort ourselves out (I wish , though have applied for my Irish passport already just in case ).

ono40 · 26/06/2016 13:55

AuntP - snap! I have asked my family to send me 3 passport application forms and both DSs and me intend to become Irish (and EU) citizens. DS has organised for a bunch of his friends to attend the protest on Tuesday evening in London. He was absolutely incensed that 16-18 year olds weren't eligible to vote.

In other news, we enjoyed our trip to Liverpool and DS liked it as it is a campus but right in the city centre and it has a buzzing vibe about it. Nice accommodation too, with double beds and ensuites. I asked the history and politics departments about personal statements. They both said they don't really look at them, it's the predicted grades (and AS grades) that count. They only look at personal statements if someone is doing A-levels that would not lend themselves to history or politics (eg all science). Horse it is definitely worth a look but AAA for history (gulp!)

Horsemad · 26/06/2016 17:29

Ono, I thought the History and Geog talks were brilliant and the guy who did the Geog talk Shock OMG, he was gorgeous - my ovaries were twanging, lol lol. I was transfixed! Grin

teta · 26/06/2016 18:20

You know ,in my day Liverpool really wasn't a campus university. It seems to have expanded so much .Even the student union is now called a guild ( and is really posh).I was totally amazed at the transformation and the money involved. The new halls of residence were lovely and so civilised.B it it didn't really feel like my Liverpool of old.
The students on my daughter's prospective course were so lovely ,helpful and chatty as was the admissions lady that my DD loved it.But leahurst was very equine based.Very different to the other universities.Again work experience held the biggest sway as opposed to Bristol where the personal statement is more important.

HSMMaCM · 26/06/2016 19:09

Horse - this is why parents shouldn't attend open days Grin

teta, Leahurst is just along the road from where I spent my teens!

I agree how things have changed - my old uni city (Sheffield) has really smartened up the "student quarter" which is in a lovely part of the city - I wanted to go back to live there when I last visited! It would be fab if either of mine ended up there.

hellsbells99 · 26/06/2016 20:05

One of my DDs is starting at Liverpool in September!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 27/06/2016 07:37

Yes, my DD is active in Youth Council, both locally and has been to some national events. They generally think 16 and 17 year olds should have the vote from what I've heard. It's one of their issues and I'm pretty sure they've spoken up on it through whatever representation they've been given.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 27/06/2016 07:41

Glad you all liked Liverpool, my DBro went there and seemed a great student city when I visited him there 30 or so years ago!
Becoming Irish sounds like an idea!

namechange7711 · 27/06/2016 13:37

Sorry about your loss AuntP. It's a miserable time, even if you were half-expecting it, so all you can do is take it one day at a time and go easy on yourself. Flowers

I'm another ex-Scouser who has been madly googling applying for an Irish passport over the weekend!! I was bemused to discover that I am apparently automatically an Irish citizen on the basis of a parent being born there. I really hope the national mood doesn't turn nasty, but if it does it would be good for my mixed-race DCs to have a Plan B.

Horsemad · 27/06/2016 20:55

I can't get an Irish passport as my grandad was born here, dammit! I tjought he was born in Ireland; NOT FAIR Angry

ono40 · 28/06/2016 20:35

DS and his mates have gone off to the London Stays rally this evening. It's great that they all feel so politically engaged. He went on a Uni Taster day yesterday at Goldsmith's in New Cross and saw someone being shot in the leg. And to think he thought Liverpool wasn't safe!
