AuntP I'm so sorry to hear that.

LittleHoHum · 21/06/2016 08:56

So sorry to hear about your Mum AuntP. Flowers

Don't worry about university open days as they hold another batch in the Autumn.

LittleHoHum · 21/06/2016 09:53

Anyone else got a dc sitting C3 today?

hellsbells99 · 21/06/2016 10:15

My DD has C3 today - hoping for a good paper Smile

ono40 · 21/06/2016 10:48

So sorry to hear about your mum AuntP. Flowers We are the sandwich generation trying to juggle work, kids and elderly parents.

Horse, I'm going to Liverpool on Saturday, DS is looking at history (maybe...). Him and DH are going to Newcastle the week after, luckily I booked tickets months ago and they were £53 for the two of them with the 16-25 railcard. DS says he doesn't want to go anywhere too far (like Newcastle) so he can get home easily when he is ill - shame his illness is restricting his choice of uni.

HSMMaCM · 21/06/2016 11:03

I know what you mean about illness affecting choices. DD has been suffering from anxiety and can't even face open days. That's why she's considering open university, but it's a shame that illness prevents them from certain experiences.

Good luck to all the C3s today. This will be DS next year. (Hopefully.)

I totally agree how hard it is juggling the needs of parents with the needs of teenagers doing exams / job / house etc. For AuntP Flowers

My living room floor caved in a few days ago. Oh the joy.

HSMMaCM · 21/06/2016 11:09

Was it the weight of revision notes Liney?

LittleHoHum · 21/06/2016 11:13

C3 was much harder than usual (OCR) and didn't resemble the past papers. However she seems to think she answered all the questions so fingers crossed.

There seems to be a pattern developing.

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 11:21

Oh HSM that's so hard for her. DD is fine with her friends but absolutely wouldn't go to an open day on her own - even I would be better than noone! I predict her choice of uni will be the same as at least one close friend.

Ono, sorry for your DS too. Newcastle is a long way from London and not as cheap to travel so that may be a deciding factor for DD too.

LineyReborn · 21/06/2016 11:26

HSM I fear not. More like the weight of abandoned shoes and plates Grin Luckily my lovely OH is fixing it and I am his unattractive assistant.

didn't resemble the past papers That's been the big issue this year, and in a year of transition as well. We wouldn't dream of doing this at university level, so why are 17 year olds fair game?

Auntpetunia2015 · 21/06/2016 12:23

Thank you all for the kind thoughts. Mum is still Holding on don't know how much longer for though.

I'm in work but not much use to anyone. Glad DS has finished all his exams. DD has end of term exams and I've spoken to school about this as she's already stressing. (She's pulling her hair out again over the exams. By the time she does her GCSEs she'll be bald

LittleHoHum · 21/06/2016 12:33

Thanks hellsbells. Some of those comments are for different exam boards but looking on social media the reaction to the OCR exam is a resounding thumbs down.

Lots of students worried about missing a university offer (at least we don't have that worry). Such a shame.

Which year is your dd in AuntP? ds also has end of year exams and he can't write as someone football tackled his arm. I've told him not to worry as they are just practice ones in year 10.

GetAHaircutCarl · 21/06/2016 12:42

A very un-mumsnetty hug, to all those going through tough times Sad.

Exams are now finished here and DC go off on DofE later today. Good timing as I'm going away for a few days for meetings and DH is stupidly busy.

Auntpetunia2015 · 21/06/2016 13:10

Dd is year 9 so not a major year. But they do them in the hall under exam conditions and she was stressing. They've allowed her to do them on a small room and take her distraction bands in to stop her fiddling with her hair.

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 14:22

Oh AuntP, your poor DD.

bebumba · 21/06/2016 16:28

Sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time AuntP.

Going to Liverpool with Ds on Saturday too. He is looking at Chemistry degrees.

bebumba · 21/06/2016 16:29

Actually thats's a lie! We are going Friday!

hellsbells99 · 21/06/2016 16:49

My DD has a friend doing chemistry at Liverpool and they are really enjoying it!

bebumba · 21/06/2016 17:24

That's good to hear hellsbells. Liverpool is one of his top choices on paper.

Horsemad · 21/06/2016 17:58

History will be one of DS's talks too Ono Smile

My DS sounds similar to yours in that I think he'll stay fairly close to home, although saying that he is going to look at Newcastle next weekend as well!!

LittleHoHum · 21/06/2016 20:21

dd3 is off to York and Durham Open Days at the weekend. Going by train with big sister and staying overnight.

titchy · 21/06/2016 20:33

Snap littleho!

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 20:39

Littleho, I wish DD had a big sis - a few poss visits this/next week but no friends who want to go, I can't just take time off and she does not want to go on her ownEnvy
