Following on from the preparing for AS levels thread.

Hopefully everyone is finishing off AS exams.

I think it was Edexcel.

So sorry for them all.

HSMMaCM · 15/06/2016 13:56

Oh dingit :(

I think they should have a year out after GCSEs, attempting the world of work. That way they are not exam weary when they do their AS levels and are doing them with some purpose in mind. I suppose when there are no AS levels they won't have this extra 'every result matters' year in between. Every cloud and all that ...

Stats apparently OK here - "Not great but fine. Better than the other two anyway"
I think she's a bit exam weary and just glad they're over now!

She's gone to bed to catch up on some sleep, especially from last night - where in spite of having half-term for revision it was still impossible to get a full night's sleep apparently - drives DH nuts
I'm more "whatever it takes to get through them" Smile And try to keep the peace Confused

teta · 15/06/2016 18:01

DD found this one ok,though her friend was in floods of tears apparently ( like DD last exam) because she was stuck on one question.
Phew!!
Now only two internal exams to go .

LineyReborn · 15/06/2016 18:03

I feel so done with all this.

LittleHoHum · 15/06/2016 18:12

Me too. It doesn't end until Friday week.

SugarPlumTree · 15/06/2016 18:19

Huge sympathies to all those who are feeling the worse for wear WineFlowers It's hard enough anyway but all the chopping and changing is shaking up both students and teachers I get the impression.

Liney, I'm so sorry it's so tough. Please be very kind to yourself, bereavements are hard at the best of times but combined with exam stress really compounds it . Hang in there FlowersFlowersFlowers

LineyReborn · 15/06/2016 19:22

Aaaaw thanks, Sugar. And everyone.

teta · 15/06/2016 19:32

Liney, hope things get better soon Wine.

Horsemad · 15/06/2016 22:30

D1 Maths was 'a total disaster' according to DS. He has worked really hard for these exams, so I feel really sorry for him. Sad

LineyReborn · 16/06/2016 07:55

Thanks, teta.

Horsemad, my DS worked hard as well, so I don't understand why it's all gone so horribly wrong. It's the university entry that's worrying me, tbh.

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2016 08:01

Horse, poor DS. Hopefully everyone has found it hard so the grade boundaries are lower.

Liney, it's been a particularly hard time for you as others have said. Things can only get better.

I can't tell you how glad I am that DD and her friends are off on uni visits today - we have had a couple of days of major drama here, and I am rather drained. When does it start getting easier?

LittleHoHum · 16/06/2016 09:05

Liney and Horsemad - sorry to hear it is so tough. Flowers

bigTilly - I think it starts getting better when they finish A Levels. There are still problems but many of them happen away from home so it doesn't impact the whole family as much.

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2016 10:33

Littleham, here's hoping!

SugarPlumTree · 16/06/2016 11:37

DD is leaving in 2 days time so not long to wait here ! I hope she does buckle down and do her A level next year, away from my watchful eye.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 16/06/2016 12:02

Wow SugarPlum Shock
Remind me, what are her plans, where's she off too?

dingit · 16/06/2016 12:29

I just keep saying to Dd, you're all in it together, on a continuous loop.

Enjoying today at bath university open day, but the entry requirements are Shock

SugarPlumTree · 16/06/2016 13:13

She's finished her 90 credit BTEC diploma and next year will be doing Japanese A level plus hopefully TEFL whilst staying in Scandanavia for a year (or 2 weeks if she hates it). She'll be having Skype lessons with the tutor who helped her do her Japanese GCSE and I need to persuade her old school to let her sit the exams there.

We were in Bath recently and I did think what a pleasant place to be a student!

Has anyone got any feedback on Chemistry? It seems to be causing a few headaches this year around here and friend is wondering if it's the same everywhere.

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2016 13:29

Two days SugarPlumShock i will be thinking of you - what a big step for her, but she sounds up for it. Big step for you too!

ono40 · 16/06/2016 13:30

Horse and Liney sorry to hear about the maths, it was pronounced hard at DS's school too (although he doesn't do maths). I am sure they come out of exams thinking they've done worse than they actually have. At least I am hoping that is the case after the disaster that was politics unit 1 for DS.

SugarPlum I can't believe your DD is off in 2 days Shock

He has gone off today to Leeds for a history taster day and woke the entire household at 5am as he needed to wash his hair, couldn't be seen in public with it as it was!

SugarPlumTree · 16/06/2016 13:36

Thank you BTM, appreciate that. It is a big step for all of us, I'm taking it one day at the moment. She has come so far from the tiny, shy toddler she was, I'm proud of her for having the confidence to do this.

Just putting this here so comes up in archives, Hiscox do gap year insurance for 17 year olds.

OddBoots · 17/06/2016 06:20

Sorry to hear there have been some very difficult papers, I think this strange transition time is throwing out some oddness. I hope it works itself out in the grade boundaries.

Final exam today for DS here, it can't come soon enough. It's been a mixed bag, he is almost certain he is going to drop physics next year but will wait for the results.

He can't decide if he wants to do maths or computer science at university, hopefully the open days he has this next couple of Saturdays will help, DH is taking him to UCL tomorrow and I am taking him to KCL the following week. At the moment he still prefers City. All are commutable from home, which is what he wants to do. He has ASD and while he is very independent at home he is quite vulnerable to being taken advantage of by the 'wrong crowd' - he knows this and has had experience of it so would prefer to stay at home for university.

I have had a bad couple of weeks at work with various external things going badly wrong but I've had to try so hard not to bring the stress home with me. Thankfully I got my OU exams out the way before this happened.

HSMMaCM · 17/06/2016 06:59

Oddboots he sounds very sensible.

Good luck with all your results and at work.

OP posts:
teta · 17/06/2016 14:02

Best of luck for your DD Sugarplum in her adventure.I do hope the exams today have gone well for everyone. It has been a really strange academic year so far.Hopefully the situation will look clearer next year.
Have any of your children done any interview practice?I think mine needs some having witnessed a Mini 'chat' about some voluntary work she needs to do.She was terrible ,appeared disinterested ,wasn't interested in asking questions and I was mortified ( especially as she's just got distinction in her Lamda silver).
Bearing in mind the course she's chosen is so competitive doing a 'good' interview will be crucial.I was thinking about asking her Drama teacher if he could run a special class for this.

LineyReborn · 17/06/2016 14:35

Yy. Hasn't it been an odd year and exam season?

Nearly over for everyone now - thank you all so much for the support and advice. Flowers

DS now has a few weeks of transition lessons and has already had a practical. And on it goes...
