Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
therootoftheroot · 06/06/2016 10:13

unless he's got the wrong idea! Shock

hewl · 06/06/2016 10:29

dd the most nervous I have ever seen her this morning.

I knew this would be a problem when she got an a* in her mock - now anything else and she'll feel she's failed Shock. She said she can't remember any dates Confused. I hope it goes ok for her.

dowhatnow · 06/06/2016 10:40

No exams today but she's going in after break too. Again first day of study leave so not strictly necessary but she thinks it'll be beneficial.

Icouldbeknitting · 06/06/2016 11:26

History would be fine if it wasn't for the dates Shock. DS has no problem telling the story but putting actual dates on the timeline is the challenge. This history paper is supposed to be the easier one of the two for him but judging by the amount of revision he did yesterday it looks like he's not confident about it.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/06/2016 11:29

Eek! Vietnam came up as the compulsory question Shock

However, DD said it was fine, she knew what to say and feels it went really well. Phew!

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2016 11:39

DD liked the history and said the last question was unexpected it asked about Berlin being a flashpoint and the teachers had prepared them for changing international relations.
She handled it well, in her usual manner answered differently to everyone else but her teachers like her unusual way of thinking and sees it as more top level thinking

ExitPursuedByBear · 06/06/2016 12:08

DD was happy with history, and claims to have answered all the questions she should have.

Head down for English Language tomorrow.

sn0wdr0p4 · 06/06/2016 12:33

Not a great start to the week here. DD was up most of the night with bad period pains and was sick. Thank goodness she doesn't have an exam today! With a month of exams it had to happen sometime.
She has decided to go into school for English revision and pizza later. Hopefully she'll be ok for English tomorrow.

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2016 14:44

DD has rang to say she's feeling incredibly ill nauseous can't stop vomitting and feels light headed, migraines etc and everytime she goes to revise she can't she's attempted to revise maths and geography and she said she just can't.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/06/2016 14:47

Oh no! How awful! Hope it's a quick 24 hour thing

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/06/2016 15:05

Sounds like she needs Matron Fantasy. I hope it eases off quickly.

Snowdrop, I hope your dd is feeling better now.

Offered to help dd with revising her music. She handed me 107 flash cards to test her on - some with up to 8 facts on Shock that can't be right can it? I'm sure that much of it was invented nonsense words, I didn't understand a thing!

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2016 15:11

Well she come off her period Sunday and sometimes she can still feel a bit sicky after hopefully it will go. She's going to walk to the shops at 4 to see if some fresh air might ease the sickness. She's being to school nurse told her to take paracetamol and carry on revising Hmm

HesMyLobster · 06/06/2016 16:24

Dd is fairly happy with this mornings history exam. The questions seem to have been on the topics she was hoping for. 1 down, 2 to go, not sure if she'll be so lucky with the next one - Russia is a tricky unit, lots of difficult names as well as the dates!
That's not til next week though - lots of Mr Bruff this afternoon in preparation for English tomorrow.

Hope all the poorly dcs feel better very soon.

needastrongone · 06/06/2016 16:39

DS is also happy with his History, feels it went absolutely fine.

However Ad Maths, a completely different matter, and this has thrown him completely. He is totally pissed off. Would hang around to speak with any of his mates and see how they found it. I've tried to reassure him he's probably in the top 2/3 students in his cohort of 280 kids at maths, and that if he found it tough, others will for sure, and the grade boundaries will be lower but he's too annoyed to take much notice.

Having said all this, he's a cocky little git sometimes about his academic ability, particularly with Maths, so bombing something that he thought was a given might be a life lesson for him. Less cruising, more work...

needastrongone · 06/06/2016 16:41

And felt dreadful as DD had exams this week, to ascertain whether they will do triple or double science, she's year 10, and I didn't so much as ask her how they went when she came in as I was dealing with DS.

They went fine... she's my dedicated and hard working child Smile

NorbertDentressangle · 06/06/2016 17:31

Feedback from DD about Ad Maths was "not great" but she said everyone felt the same. Maybe it was a toughie?

starfleet · 06/06/2016 18:08

Hope all your poorly/under the weather DC's are on the mend.

DS says History was "fine". Thinks he may have made a mistake on one questions but doesn't think he'll lose many marks. He has form for not reading questions in depth and going off on a tangent! Another one over.

English tomorrow.

ExitPursuedByBear · 06/06/2016 18:53

Help. What is a good you tube site for English revision? Dd is not rating Mr Bruff.

228agreenend · 06/06/2016 18:55

Get well soon to all the poorly pupils,

Had an argue meant with ds2 about revision this evening. I said, if he hadn't already done so,me needs to be finishing revision notes for two subjects per evening. He looked at me in horror and said he couldn't do,that. When do,his, exams start? Next Monday! He didn't take to kindly when I said he should have done more during the holidays, and before then.

Part of me what's him to do badly, to prove he hasn't done enough, but at the same time I don't want him to fail!

Not sure how much ds1 has done either. Four exams over three days this week, and then a two, week gap before, the last one. Hooray!

Annoyingly, I'm going to miss a free buffet lunch at a training event,,as I' going to have to take him to the station before one exam. I was looking forward to that, the food not the training!

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2016 19:07

DD has being out feels slightly better isn't panicked much about this weeks exams so that's reassuring.

ExitPursuedByBear · 06/06/2016 19:34

You tube English revision recommendations please

needastrongone · 06/06/2016 20:14

None for you Exit, sorry.

DS has since admitted he hadn't worked as hard as he could have re the Ad Maths, although having heard from a friend with a DC even more adept at Maths than DS is, I know they found this exam the toughest of them all so far. So yes, the exam was hard, but tough, DS can fall on his sword if he's not prepared to put the effort in. I am a bit mean like that, me Smile

Travelledtheworld · 06/06/2016 20:51

Needastrongone you are not alone.
My DS also had Ad Maths this afternoon and said it was the most difficult thing he has ever done. He has been going for 100% in Higher GCSE maths papers and has worked really hard on Ad Maths, doing many past papers.

He really was trying for an A but reckons he could only finish half the questions. He is at a really good selective Grammar, excellent teachers and only the best of the top set are allowed to take Ad Maths. So I reckon it was a really tough paper.

He is inconsolable and has just been to sit on my lap and have a cuddle. Ouch he is 13 stone and six foot three.

I am trying to get him to move on and focus on something harmless like Geography....

needastrongone · 06/06/2016 21:03

Thanks Travelled for posting this, that's really reassuring perspective. DS hasn't resorted to wanting a cuddle but is fairly cheesed off. I know he's extremely capable at Maths and his friend just as much so, so it looks like a fair few kids at the top end were challenged. Thanks Smile

2gorgeousboys · 06/06/2016 21:27

DS said History was alright but he's remembered something he should have put but didn't. Media Studies was apparently "awful" and they asked questions about things he'd my been taught.

Onwards and upwards for tomorrow now though.
