Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2016 21:44

DD has read Twitter and has panicked she wrote a paragraph on the Berlin blockade and it wasn't asking for the Berlin blockade. She did other paragraphs will this effect her significantly?

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2016 21:44

She's edexcel history btw

ExitPursuedByBear · 06/06/2016 21:48

I thought you said her teachers liked her alternative view on things?

But what's done is done and cannot be undone. So focus on tomorrow.

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2016 21:49

exit
Her fourth factor yes her teacher liked that but DD has being on Twitter and realised the Berlin blockade wasn't part of the years they wanted discussing.

ExitPursuedByBear · 06/06/2016 21:53

Twitter can be wrong.

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2016 21:57

It can be wrong yes Of course but her close friends have made the same mistakes as her. DD is going to see her teacher tomorrow she's predicted an A* for history

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/06/2016 22:06

It can't be helped now Fantasy. Look towards the next exam.

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/06/2016 22:10

Two and a quarter hours of AQA English language tomorrow morning. As DS1 says, that's a long time to have to spend writing about not very much.

ExitPursuedByBear · 06/06/2016 22:19

Dd is worried that she can't go that long without eating!

HeyBells · 06/06/2016 22:28

The feedback here is that history (OCR) was OK but Add maths was hard. DS was annoyed as he didn't notice a question at the end Hmm but apparently only one person could do that one. He's another one who was hoping for an A and planning on double maths for A levels, maybe the grade boundaries will be low... The dreaded German listening plus computing next on Wednesday.

Travelledtheworld · 06/06/2016 22:51

Fantasy I am an exam invigilator.
Teacher will not be able to do anything about it. The answer sheets get packaged off and sent to the exam board for marking. The teachers do not get to see the exam papers.
You will have to wait until results. You might be allowed to ask for a re-mark if she is was below predicted grade, but basically if she hasn't answered the question then will not get any marks for it. Hopefully she will have answered other questions correctly and done well despite this mistake.

Travelledtheworld · 06/06/2016 22:55

Ad Maths it's meant to be a bridge between GCSE and A level so it is supposed to be hard !

HesMyLobster · 06/06/2016 23:02

Sorry Exit, no other recommendations - The Bruff is a god in this house!

My DD did the same paper as yours I think Fantasy - she said that afterwards there was some confusion about which events in Berlin people had written about.
It's only one question out of six though so shouldn't be too disastrous I hope!

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/06/2016 23:03

Is this the last year of Additional Maths GCSE or is there going to be a new GCSE (9-1) in it? I'm asking on behalf of DS2, who is currently in Y9.

HesMyLobster · 06/06/2016 23:07

I'm not sure Second, I know dd's school have switched from additional maths to further maths for the first time this year, and wondered if that was because additional was being phased out.

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2016 23:17

Everything else she's answered fine just the last question but it seems it's caused a lot of confusion amongst kids. Onwards and upwards I've told her she's done excellent in her coursework so that's good.

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/06/2016 23:30

Thanks HesMyLobster. It's quite a Mathsy school (60% do Maths A-level, 30% do Further Maths A-level) and the top two sets do Maths GCSE in Y10 (they all get A or A*) and then another Maths qualification in Y11.

I don't know exactly what qualification, as DS1 (currently Y11) is not super-Mathsy and is in set 5 (hopefully A at GCSE and then single Maths A-level, but not set 1-2 calibre).

DS2 is much more Mathsy and is in set 1, but for the students doing 9-1 Maths from 2017, I think the school are planning to enter all of them at

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/06/2016 23:31

the end of Y11 for the normal GCSE. Perhaps because grade 9 will be harder to achieve than an A*...

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/06/2016 23:32

Sorry about truncated post, my phone is behaving strangely.

ShanghaiDiva · 07/06/2016 01:25

Good luck to everyone with exams today!
Re maths - if the paper was considered hard then the grade boundaries will be lower - ime. DS did maths iGCSE last year and I spent a lot of time marking past papers and looking at grade boundaries and there was definitely positive correlation between ds's mark, how hard he thought the paper was and the grade boundary.
Just one more exam to go here - AS Maths next Wednesday.

HesMyLobster · 07/06/2016 07:46

Second I think I read that they were stopping all pre-yr11 GCSE entries, so that might explain it.

Good Luck to all doing English Language this morning, and any others too!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 07/06/2016 08:24

English Language and RE paper 2 today! Critical DS2 gets his C for English so he can do his college course. Good luck everyone!

raspberryrippleicecream · 07/06/2016 08:36

DD was reasonably happy with AQA history, though she knows she got a date wrong. It's also possible it's very bad as she reckoned some questions weren't clear on what was being asked.

Gone off ok for Eng Lan. Shes iGCSE, think AQA. Good luck to all

FantasyAndHope · 07/06/2016 08:41

No exams today revising for igcse geography tomorrow she's going to pop and see history teacher for some advice about last history exam and talk about yesterday's exam. She's looked at the unofficial mark scheme and it seems she did everything else correct barring the last question she's checked everything out maximum she can get is 9/13 which I've said is not bad because then there's 3 SPAG marks on top of that so last question including SPAG is out of 16

needastrongone · 07/06/2016 08:43

TheSecond , I know DS's school haven't offered Ad Maths to the current year 10 students. They dropped the number of option choices to 3 (from 4) in addition to this. The content and complexity of the English and Maths coursework is so much harder.

I've mentioned before that DD (Y10) is bringing home maths homework that DS (Y11) is only covering in Ad Maths, it's tough stuff. I'm struggling to work out her target grades, as they are numeric, or at least put them in the context of the old grading structure.

DS fully expected his AD Maths to be his most difficult exam, it was just how tough it was that threw him.

It's already 22 degrees here, DS has English, RE and then Business today. I have to pick him up at 4pm. Poor sod has started with hay fever too!

Good luck to everyone today.
