Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
ExitPursuedByBear · 28/05/2016 08:29

We had a horsey shopping trip yesterday for boots . I really miss having a horse to buy for. This one is on long term loan so it never feels quite the same. And I have a garage full of stuff left over from my mare. Including my mare.

ExitPursuedByBear · 28/05/2016 08:30

I've got DD's book from nursery and primary. And lots of her weekly diaries. They make me laugh and cry in equal measure.

228agreenend · 28/05/2016 08:36

Exit - being post no 1000 is indeed something to be proud of. Well done.

Snowdrop - how awful. You could do without this added stress at this time.

Maxtrue - sorry your evening was spoilt by the comments.

Sockg - welcome to the thread. All are welcome.

No leavers assembly, hoodies, prom, or anything here. Asked ds about it and he said its 'cause we go,to a traditional boys grammar school. He doesn't seem bothered, and would be one who would prefer a gaming party to a disco. I feel he's missing out. I would feel,it more if he was a dd, because I would have loved to do the 'buying the prom party dress' thing.

Ds has to in six form uniform, ie. Suits for his six form induction day, so I got that to,looking forward to, but buying a suit in Next doesn't have the same appeal has going and looking at dresses in Monsoon, Phase 8, etc. Sad

Thanks I am really hoping that the school will see it for what it is. The accusation was not made by the pupil supposedly involved. On the other hand I know that there are procedures that must and should be followed as it is a safeguarding issue.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2016 08:44

The procedures did mean that the teacher was suspended from school - there was no choice. County were really not helpful or supportive either, there was a whole load of arse covering going on. I'm sorry this is happening to your dds teacher.

Think I will dig out all of dds old stuff from the loft at some point.

needastrongone · 28/05/2016 08:46

Including your mare, I read that twice then understood! Equine shopping is the best. Our previous pony was a loan and came with a tack shop full of stuff, it's strangely satisfactory choosing your own 'colour' etc.

I loved having the booklet back, DS was not so impressed Grin

Thunder I hope your DD is ok.

swingofthings · 28/05/2016 08:56

Not so much end in sight for DD as she is doing triple science and further Maths, so all her toughest subjects still to get through and next week the hardest. She is not bothered though, she's involved in ball crewing for a tennis tournament this week and going to watch the football game on Thursday.

Her school is the only own in town (out of 6?) who haven't finished yet and they still have to attend lessons (revision) in between exams. She's not impressed, I think it's great!

She too is doing NCS the whole month of July.

sn0wdr0p4 · 28/05/2016 09:08

On a brighter note we do have prom here plus after prom party. We only realized a couple of weeks ago that the day after her prom DD is going on the caravan and camping club youth rally, so definitely no lie in.

228a I had no input whatsoever in buying DD's prom dress, she bought it online! I will have to shorten it once she has bought her shoes.

How are everyone's DC's getting to prom? My DP is a bus enthusiast (sad but true) and has hired a vintage double decker bus from a friend to take DD and her friends. It is leaving from another friend's house whose mum has invited all the parents for champagne and nibbles. Something to look forward to Smile

Exit - you have a horse in your garage?!

OP posts:
catslife · 28/05/2016 09:51

Exit there are dragon boat races in the UK (try looking it up). There is an event near me in June (in the exam period though).
Sockg It's English language that sixth forms are most interested in. My is doing WJCE too (thought I may be the only on here but guess not). On the 2 papers she preferred the questions on "Of Mice and Men" and "An Inspector Calls" to those on Poetry and Heroes and all her friends thought the same. I guess the marking will be a bit more generous for the poetry and second novel to compensate.
The leavers hoodies have all been given out now and dd is proudly wearing hers. There is a Leavers service that parents can go to in late June apparently.

HesMyLobster · 28/05/2016 09:55

Thankyou for the new thread.
I had a delightful evening with friends drinking gin in the local beer garden, haven't done that for a while!
So sorry to hear your lovely evening was spoiled Max, what a horrible comment to make when she should have been full of positivity and inspiration for the dcs.

There are 600 in dd's year so no assembly for us and no prom either.
They had prom at the end of year 9 as our area changes schools between ks3 and ks4.

She and her friends went in a pink Cadillac - it was very cool. Dd2 is in year 9 so it's her turn this year, her friends grandfather collects vintage cars so they're going in one of his.
A vintage bus sounds wonderful, and plenty of room for all too.
DD considered ncs, but decided against it as the dates clashed with her drama groups summer show - they are doing Grease and DD is playing Danny(!) (shortage of boys!)

I'm a teacher (primary) so half term for me too! Grin We are spending this week relaxing, visiting friends, maybe a day out shopping. Oh and revising of course!
Triple science, further maths and history all still to go and they are dd's toughest subjects. Plus English Language, another maths paper and graphics.
Enjoy the sunshine, and the break this weekend all Wine

HesMyLobster · 28/05/2016 09:56

Exit, you have a horse in your garage?!

Mysillydog · 28/05/2016 11:00

Last week was dd's heaviest week of exams, so it was lovely to see her relaxing last night. She slumped in front of the tv and made origami shapes. The exam season is very hard for all kids and she had a mini meltdown on Thursday saying that her life will be over if she fails her GCSE's and that I don't understand the pressure.

She has additional science, calculator maths and history to go. I will be very pleased when it's all over.

FantasyAndHope · 28/05/2016 12:07

DD is going to spend the seeking "chilling"

Icouldbeknitting · 28/05/2016 12:22

Max she sounds like a drama queen, how on earth can someone else's clothes and hair be in any way "traumatising"?

Snowdrop - rumours like that are nasty but they have to be investigated. Hopefully it will be dealt with quickly (I doubt it though).

No NCS here, DS already had three separate weeks of commitments over the summer which I was not prepared to cancel. They offered something in October half term but he has a music residential then so at that point they gave up. It's just as well because he's been asked to volunteer for something that he really wants to do so if he had signed up he would have had to cancel on NCS.

DS is holed up in his room, I will tempt him out with food and then we are going for a walk.

ExitPursuedByBear · 28/05/2016 12:55

Her ashes are in a basket in the garage.

My other mare's ashes are in a black bin bag in the greenhouse.

I have decided they are going in with me when my time comes.

chocolateworshipper · 28/05/2016 12:57

thesockgap - unless college have said otherwise, having English normally means at least English Language OR English Literature

hewl · 28/05/2016 13:05

Another one here whose dd wants to spend the summer on horseback, eventing here.

Dd has just told me that she wrote 16 pages on the unseen poem which she absolutely loved and has now decided she wants to do English literature A level!

NicknameUsed · 28/05/2016 13:30

"There are 600 in dd's year"

Shock That's a lot. How big is the school?

DD hated the unseen poem. She hates poetry anyway, and so do I.

NorbertDentressangle · 28/05/2016 15:16

Has anyone else found that their DC , during down-time, are like little children again?

During the last 2 weeks when DD has finished revising for the day or had a break she and her 11yo brother seem to have regressed to being KS1 age again! They invent silly games and are virtually rolling around in hysterical laughter, chasing each other around the house etc. This morning they were on the trampoline taking it turns to try and bounce the other person so they fell over, all the while laughing like drains!

It's quite lovely Smile

derektheladyhamster · 28/05/2016 15:19

Just realised that Ds needs an A* in all the subjects he wants to do at A level (maths, chemistry, biology & history)
I know its a selective school but still,
I'm sure that there must be some wriggle room, Ds says most stay on to sixth form, and they can't all have A* in their subjects.

Icouldbeknitting · 28/05/2016 16:06

Derek that's very selective indeed. It must be a very stressful time at your house.

DS has decided that he wants a points average of 6.7 (A=7) because then he can negotiate for an additional A/S. This is why he had the wobble after maths last week, he thought that he'd blown his chances. He hasn't although his mfl will drag the average down.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 28/05/2016 16:40

DD had her dance session on Friday after all the exams - she loves dance and it's a nice social group too, so good she got to unwind from the week & slept like a log last night - as did I 😴 All this talk about horses is making me nostalgic for my horsey youth - lovely times 🙂

DD is doing NCS but has a week's work experience too first week of July. She also bought her Yr 7 booklet home - so lovely to read together. Unfortunately, her favourite subject in Yr7 of English Lit has now sadly waned and been demoted to least favourite 🙁

TheDrsDocMartens · 28/05/2016 17:48

Me too lashings would love to go hurtling down the beach again.

hewl · 28/05/2016 20:09

Think a day off has messed with dds work ethic a bit. No revision today at all. We are out tomorrow afternoon and Monday. Hopefully she can get enough done. She needs an A at least in history as she wants to do it for A level. She'll be allowed to do it with a B but it's her favourite subject and she got an A* in her mock so lots of pressure..
