Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
Icouldbeknitting · 04/06/2016 12:16

BitoutofPractice - are there any revision resources you're finding useful for the Vietnam War? DS had a wobble with it this week - too big - I know nothing - I can't do it etc.

Not much revision happening here, I lost the will to push DS ever since I found out that someone we know has had a child admitted to hospital with an eating disorder. I'd rather have a happy slacker than a stressed achiever (actually I'd rather have a happy achiever but wishing doesn't make it so)

DS has an exam at 9am every morning this week and one afternoon one as well.

ExitPursuedByBear · 04/06/2016 13:08

DD has history on Monday. I think she managed an hours revision this morning before going to work, whilst her father and I moved rubbing matting from one stable to another Hmm Me with my broken toe and all.

But she has had her trial make up done for prom and spent most of yesterday with her mates so she is happy.

She will have to buckle down tomorrow but has to move the horse.

Feel like we are running out of time ....................

raspberryrippleicecream · 04/06/2016 14:51

History Monday here too. There are statistics about the Cold War , League of Nations and Origins of World War 2 popping up all round the house. DD keeps appearing with her flash cards

FantasyAndHope · 04/06/2016 15:58

Sorry havent being on in a while
DD has done zero revision all week, hit by severe period pains which have ended today.
History monday thankfully she's good at it

NorbertDentressangle · 04/06/2016 17:19

Hello again all.

Hope you've all had good half-terms (as good as they can be anyway!)

DD has 7 exams this week with Tuesday being the worst day as she has 3 then!

Revision has been a bit hit and miss - she had 2 days off as we went away for a break but found it difficult to get back into the revision routine I think.

I've been gardening most of the day so I'm just hoping that all the time she was "revising" was spent revising.

chocolateworshipper · 04/06/2016 17:26

3 exams on Tuesday here too - two English and one RS. Lucky DD has a scribe really, as with 25% extra time, that would be an awful lot of writing in one day!

228agreenend · 04/06/2016 17:33

Ds has done bits and pieces this week. However, I' worried he has gone off the boil. Before the holiday, he said he was going to work really hard on geography. Not sure that has actually happened,

In my opinion, DS1 is overconfident about History. Thanks to an excellent teacher, he has a good understanding of the concepts. He is also eloquent and writes well, so has got used to getting good marks without putting much work in.

Unfortunately his laissez-faire attitude in the subject caught up with him in the controlled assessment, and he got a C. This means that he really needs to be aiming for A grades in these two papers to confidently secure the B he needs overall in order to do the subject at A-level.

Despite this, he hasn't really done that much History revision. He can explain the how and why, but has learned very little in the way of concrete facts to back up his explanations.

History on Monday medicine through time

Dd got an a* in her mock so is expecting good things. She's done a lot of revision so she should be ok as long as she reads the bloody question properly. She wants to do it for a level.

chocolateworshipper · 05/06/2016 10:24

I must admit to getting really stressed this week because DD was doing so little revision. However, after hearing about a second of her friends having an eating disorder, and thinking about the fact that just a year ago my DD was self-harming, I realise that I need to re-think priorities. Good luck to everyone for this week.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/06/2016 12:30

Good luck to everyone for this week! Sounds like a heavy week for lots of you and hope everything goes well.
No exams for DS - last one is on 15th June.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/06/2016 12:31

hewl - that history paper sounds really interesting.

hewl · 05/06/2016 13:37

She's loved it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/06/2016 14:05

dds first exam this week isn't til Wednesday, then they cram 5 exams into 3 days. School are running compulsory revision sessions too. If you don't go to them, no prom, so there is going to be a lot of going back and forth.

raspberryrippleicecream · 05/06/2016 14:06

Hewl DD ihas always been envious of that module. We are all sick of events from 1918 to 1960 in this house now

NicknameUsed · 05/06/2016 14:09

DD has English language, Geography, biology 2 and biology 3 this week. she has done a lot of revision with a lot of encouragement from me. We have reached the point where I am testing her now.

2gorgeousboys · 05/06/2016 14:55

DS has got 7 exams next week including OCR History and Media Studies on Monday. He's another one that hasn't done as much revision as (I think) he should have done this week. I took the Xbox controllers to work with me on Friday in a vain hope it might help!

He's been watching film trailers this morning which apparently will help with Media!!

2gorgeousboys · 05/06/2016 14:59

DS has really enjoyed medicine through time for History too. He's another that wants to study it at Alevel. He just needs to make sure he reads the question properly. In his mock exam he wrote an A grade answer about the Ancient Greeks approach to medicine, unfortunately the question was about the Egyptians!! Before every exam I now text him RTQ....

HesMyLobster · 05/06/2016 15:50

Edexcel History for DD tomorrow - international relations from 1945 - 1991.
Such a vast amount of info to learn - she knows what happened and why but it's the dates that she's struggling with.
Will be very glad when tomorrow is over, then English language, Maths calculator and biology 2 and 3 to go this week.

HesMyLobster · 05/06/2016 15:52

DD is another one who needs to RTQ! She tends to write down all the information she knows but not actually answer the specific question! So I shall be sending a similar text!

bebumba · 05/06/2016 16:04

Ds has managed quite a bit of revision over half term and heads into his last week of exams with Maths, Physics and Chemistry to do.
His Chemistry exam finishes at 3:15 on Friday and I am collecting him and a friend and driving them up to Download festival, I will not be staying!
He returns to college on the following Wednesday.
Good luck to all those with dcs still taking exams.

bebumba · 05/06/2016 16:05

Whoops! Wrong thread!!!

FantasyAndHope · 05/06/2016 16:09

DD has edexcel history tomorrow international relations.
Tuesday=none
Wednesday= Geography paper2
thursday= maths
Friday= Biology paper2

raspberryrippleicecream · 05/06/2016 16:30

DD has History tomorrow, Eng Lan on Tuesday, Maths on Thursday and Chemistry units 1,2 and 3 on Friday

boys3 · 05/06/2016 16:35

Big week ahead here also kicking of with History tomorrow. Almost 12 hours of exams this week in total for DS2, English Lang & EP Tues, then back to one per day with Geog, Maths, and Biology Units 2 & 3.

Gorgeous weather here today but has been pretty dire otherwise since the bank holiday. Revision has continued, perhaps a bit haphazard at times. Best wishes to all DCs for the week ahead.
