Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
EllenJanethickerknickers · 01/06/2016 17:21

DS1 went to Slam Dunk at the NEC, sort of 'festival lite' as it was mostly indoors with proper toilets. He came home with loads of moshing bruises though! I can't see DS2 going to a festival without me for a few years yet, and I'm very unlikely to go.

We've had holiday haircuts and pizza in town. DS2 is maintaining his two twenty minute slots per day. So looking forward to results day. Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/06/2016 18:04

we are all running away to the cinema this evening. Well deserved I reckon.

dowhatnow · 01/06/2016 18:13

DD has done a total of 2 hours this half term Angry

derektheladyhamster · 01/06/2016 19:07

I've just received ds's grades for last term with comments about what to revise. Bit pointless as 3 subject exams are now over Hmm

Still, I'm intreiged to find out about how English went considering ' Ds is quietly confident, but (teacher) is concerned about large gaps in his knowledge'

EllenJanethickerknickers · 01/06/2016 21:41

DS1 has a special maths and English revision day at school on Monday. All very nice but he's done the non-calculator paper already and English lit. Confused

I guess the English teachers will focus on practising techniques for the English language paper because I think that's really hard to revise for. Can't help thinking it's a bit late for maths, though.

I'm glad we have a mixed bag on this thread, not everyone with all A* DC like it seems sometimes on MN. Grin I expect most of them will get the grades they deserve, barring illness etc.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/06/2016 23:25

maths is a really good one to go to as it's possible to have an educated guess at what might come up in calc and do some really honed work on those topics.

oh that's a bit if a worry Derek, how not helpful of them.

I'm really glad we have a mixed bag too, tis a little oasis of real life in here.

hewl · 02/06/2016 17:28

I have just been to tescos for an emergency cupboard top up. £60 on tons of fruit, yogurts, almonds, noodles, ice creams and herb teas (all dds go to revision snacks)

hewl · 02/06/2016 17:30

Actually I bought two days evening meals and some toiletries with that also. But goodness, fresh fruit is expensive if you buy it pre prepared so that lazy busy dd can help herself to chopped mango from the fridge Hmm

dowhatnow · 02/06/2016 17:35

Well bribery threats work. Dd was only allowed to do something after 6 hours of revision today, after only a pathetic 2 hours since they broke up.
She's done it, albeit with frequent short breaks.

I think this may have to be repeated.

228agreenend · 02/06/2016 17:47

Six hours- impressive!

Ds had a day off and went to a tennis tournament, helping out with the youngest son, then playing this afternoon. Hemgotmthroughntomthenfinal, and narrowly missed winning (was two points off). Please though he got through to the final. proud mum boast !

Have you seen the weather forecast for not week? Hot and sunny! Grrrr. Firstly, it would have been nicer if it were hot and sunny this week, and secondly, they'll be sitting in sweltering hot halls.

228agreenend · 02/06/2016 17:48

Youngest players, not son.

OP posts:
228agreenend · 02/06/2016 17:49

He got through tomthe final...

Younger, not youngest

My typing has gone kaput!

chocolateworshipper · 02/06/2016 17:59

you must be in a different part of the country 228 - forecast here is a cloudy 20 degrees. Look on the bright side - what would have been the chances of ANY revision if it had been hot this week!

BlueGazebo · 02/06/2016 19:14

DS (the non reviser) has at least watched some Computer Science videos today. I've had to back down because my hassling wasn't working. Glad I am not the only one in this situation.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/06/2016 19:22

ace for your ds 228 - congratulations to him!

It could be quite warm for southern England early next week, temps round 22-24 perhaps.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 02/06/2016 19:30

Well done 228's DS.

I thank god for Mr Bruff and Bitesize every day, bluegazebo!

I'm going to a wedding tomorrow. Sun would be nice but rain would be disastrous. The venue is outdoors, after party is in their back garden in a marquee. I do have a nice umbrella...

228agreenend · 02/06/2016 21:15

Now feeling like bad mum because ds is in bed asleep after saying he felt rough. He has had a mild sore throat all week, but said he felt better this morning. Hopefully a good night sleep is all he needs

OP posts:
EllenJanethickerknickers · 02/06/2016 21:33

Better now than next week, 228.

TheSecondOfHerName · 02/06/2016 22:51

I found out yesterday that one of DS1's friends is in hospital with suspected meningitis, which puts my stresses about DS1's GCSEs into perspective.

YaySirNaySir · 02/06/2016 22:55

DS likes to watch the Geography bite size videos and then do the tests. He has lost some momentum since breaking up but has been doing the English work book and some past maths papers. In between cousins sleeping over and a party or two Smile
Geography is his strongest subject but he hasn't touched Science yet this week.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/06/2016 06:18

Hello! I found you.

Not as guilty as me 228. I went on holiday without my DD, taking her sister with me. It's a long story how it came about and there were very good reasons for it but I felt so bad

TheSecondOfHerName · 04/06/2016 10:54

This thread's gone a bit quiet.

DS1 has OCR History (Cold War & Germany) on Monday morning and WJEC Latin (Additional language) on Monday afternoon. It's his only day with more than one exam.

Over half-term, he has done more revision than he thought he should and less than I thought he should.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/06/2016 11:00

Awful about your ds' friend TheSecond. I hope that it doesn't turn out to be that.

I reckon the thread will pick up tomorrow, once the horror of going back in hits everyone!

dd is still coughing away, been over a week now. I really hope it clears up soon as its disturbs her sleep. She's also got quite obsessive about revising - whenever she puts her mind to something it's the same, so some negotiating has had to go on today to pull her away from her books and take her out for lunch. She seems worn out.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/06/2016 11:17

I am reading up on the Vietnam war today so that I can help dd1 with her history revision

chocolateworshipper · 04/06/2016 11:56

I have learnt about osmosis so that I can test DD. Feeling pretty smug actually since I was utterly rubbish at science at school.
