Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/05/2016 18:23

I wonder what revising means to him Blue? Does it look like giant black void that he has no idea how to tackle? or can he see it broken down into little steps? ie do a past paper, choose a topic that he got zilch marks in, do questions on that topic until he can get good marks? repeat.

Next weeks travel worries me. There is going to be potentially some traffic issues and with dd going in and out at odd times and shit buses there is quite a bit of scope for going wrong.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/05/2016 18:24

2Gorgeous - sounds perfect. Much healthier than dds skyrim marathon!

Icouldbeknitting · 30/05/2016 18:35

BlueGazebo I share your frustration, I really do.

FantasyAndHope · 30/05/2016 18:44

No revision here DD has being exhausted and slept aunt flow has come (yay!Smile) at least not in exams

BlueGazebo · 30/05/2016 18:53

Thanks Icouldbeknitting. Your post made me smile.

BadKitten I have tried everything. I started going through a comp science paper with him yesterday. We got through about a third. He insisted on finishing on his own and then going through the mark scheme himself. He hasn't done it but he says he has. He seems to have regressed would rather play Bakugan with younger DS2 age 10. He has a really good memory so I am trying to force feed him bits and pieces from the revision book.

Next week is our "week of death" with History, Comp Science, Maths, Geog and Biology.

Where has MY life gone? I'm going on a massive bender when this is over!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/05/2016 18:58

Sorry Blue, I'm terrible for making suggestions, even when it's obvious that someone will have tried everything! It sounds so frustrating! Sometimes there is nothing you can do.

BlueGazebo · 30/05/2016 19:18

No need to apologise - thanks for trying to help. I wonder if there is some kind of "fear of failure so I won't do anything" with a bit of "I don't want to grow up" going on. I am now resorting to telling him to have You Tubes playing in the background whilst he does whatever else he is doing - he is currently building Lego Bionicles.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/05/2016 19:21

You tubes is a good idea. Also podcasts on a loop all night long in the hope he can absorb it while he sleeps Grin

Actually I was so desperate with my uni finals that I tried recording me reading my notes and playing them while I slept. It didn't work :(

BlueGazebo · 30/05/2016 19:30

Yes, Mr Bruff has been a regular in this household.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/05/2016 19:37

I must look him up!

TheSecondOfHerName · 30/05/2016 21:19

DS1 is showing real discipline and consistency; despite being several weeks into exams, he is still managing to maintain his 10% studying, 40% socialising, 50% sleeping ratio.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/05/2016 22:06

sounds very sensible TheSecond Grin

Dd seems to have lost her mojo. We thought having this week off would be a bonus, but it just feels wrong. Me breaking my toe hasn't helped as normal routine has been disrupted, but I feel as if time is running away.

But just booked a weekend camping ticket for Leeds festival so that's ok then Confused

BlueGazebo · 31/05/2016 06:07

Have woken up early worrying about the revising situation. TheSecondOfHerName Your post has made me feel a tiny bit better! I am going to start a thread to see if there is any else I can do. DP says to do and say absolutely nothing today and see if that kick starts him. I asked him last night if he wanted me to stop being involved and he said "no". I don't think he can be feeling too good about himself. He was getting quite angry yesterday and told me to go away (so that he could play with toys and pretend to revise).

NicknameUsed · 31/05/2016 07:19

"But just booked a weekend camping ticket for Leeds festival so that's ok then"

Having seen the campsite toilets last year there is no way on earth I would camp at Leeds festival Grin, but enjoy the festival anyway.

DD is finding it hard to be motivated to revise this week. Her school isn't allowing study leave until 14th June, but I have allowed her some unofficial revision days off because she has come home from school far too tired to revise in the evening. She is just crashing out.

She had Saturday off to go to Slam Dunk and has needed a lot of "encouragement" from me to get back into revising.

Roll on 17th June.

ExitPursuedByBear · 31/05/2016 07:48

Hell not for me! I would rather eat my own feet than go to a festival. I have enough issues with the toilets at horse shows Grin

Hoping dd will get stuck in today, but we are moving the horse this week, plus she is reading at a wedding and having a trial hair and make up session for prom.

Busy busy busy

Icouldbeknitting · 31/05/2016 08:11

Blue I posted on your other thread. It's so hard when you know that they are capable of better, it's hard when you can see that they are making themselves miserable. I know that we're well into exams now but there will be more exams in his future and if you can find a way in to what's stopping him from making the most of his natural ability then it will come in useful next time.

Exit hardened festival goers take a camper van - all the comforts of home and your own toilet. I have friends who are away just about every weekend now.

starfleet · 31/05/2016 11:01

Bloomin' 'eck! You don't look at MN for a couple of days and come back to find a whole new thread.....!

DS is taking a more leisurely approach to revision this half term week. This involves lots of lounging about the house in pyjamas until about 11am and then he takes himself up to shower and do his hair before starting work! Hair is obviously very important!!

littledrummergirl · 31/05/2016 15:42

This weekend we have been removing our old shed and building a new one. We were hoping to have it finished yesterday but clearing all the crap stuff dh has kept in case it's useful, has taken slightly longer than anticipated and been far more interesting than schoolwork.

Hopefully ds1 will do some revision shortly. I may have to remind him.

TheSecondOfHerName · 31/05/2016 15:42

I took DS1 to work with me today (I work in town, he wanted to get a couple of things from the shops). Because it was raining so hard, he chose to stay at my office rather than getting the bus home, and ended up doing nearly 3 hours of revision. Smile

raspberryrippleicecream · 31/05/2016 16:34

Dd has adopted our shed. DH has a very comfy chair in it, and DD is curled up in it with books spread out. I've just been It has huge windows looking out and she loves it as a change from her room.

I take her tea. She appears through the back door from time to time with a pile of flashcards or to teach me something. I have just learnt about red shift.

HesMyLobster · 31/05/2016 18:38

Dd has done an entire day of revision today - she stopped for an hour for lunch, but did 10am to 6pm, mostly history and some biology ready for next week.
It's a trade off (with herself!) so she can go shopping for the whole day tomorrow.

She did a good 4 hours each day sat-mon to, in between rehearsals and doing a trial shift for her new waitressing job.
I'm so proud of how conscientious she's been.

(Dh and I spent the whole weekend socialising with visiting friends! Blush)

I think she's earned a day off, I may even give her some money to buy clothes for our holiday, although she has birthday money to spend still.

maxtrue · 31/05/2016 18:53

Hey everyone!

Have tried to catch up with all your news, we too - I mean dd - are having a slump in motivation since last week.
After the graduation on Friday (the weave incident from AJ on twitter and fb) I totally understood a day or two off from revising! I also got up early to ask about revision classes at school this week - she has no idea Hmm .

So she went and met with a mate to revise history as mate is really good.....they are here with MUNCHIES Shock I am torn between anger, crying and laughing...I bloody need a big fat spliff after all this. Deep breath. I just managed a well I hope it makes you remember then....

I am stuck in the what can I do to help/encourage/support/not yell/feed roundabout and I refuse to give up on her. This is important but not the end of the world right?

hewl · 31/05/2016 20:33

Dd is back on it today. She's been left behind as I am out with the others today and tomorrow. She's done biology unit 2 and some history.
